Book Administrative Law

Download or read book Administrative Law written by Michael Head and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Constant changes in administrative law reinforce the need for an up-to-date volume that critically examines the law in its contemporary, as well as historical, context. This third edition assesses the overhaul of the federal and State Freedom of Information legislation in 2009-10, the potential impact of the Human Rights (Parliamentary Scrutiny) Act 2011 (Cth) and the implications of the resignation of the Commonwealth Ombudsman in 2011.It also reviews a string of possibly far-reaching High Court rulings, notably Plaintiff M70/2011(the 'Malaysian Solution' case), Plaintiff M61/2010E (detainees' access to judicial review), Pape v Commissioner of Taxation (emergency fiscal power) and Kirk v Industrial Relations Commission (privative clauses).Taken as a whole, these developments highlight the ever-evolving shape of administrative law. They underscore a central argument of this book - the necessity to examine the content and trajectory of administrative law in its political, administrative and socio-economic settings. This edition is further fashioned from the rewarding experience of teaching administrative law since 1998.

Book Australian Constitutional Law and Theory

Download or read book Australian Constitutional Law and Theory written by Anthony Blackshield and published by . This book was released on 2006-01 with total page 1474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fourth edition of this work has involved a thorough rewrite. Each chapter has been looked at again from beginning to end, with fresh choices in some cases made for extracts to bring the book up to date for new materials and scholarship and some material rewritten to provide clearer explanation. While all chapters contain changes, some have involved a more fundamental rewrite. The Supplement below, details changes from the 3rd edition to the 4th edition. For example, the chapters on the executive as well as characterisation and the trade and commerce power have been rewritten to provide a more straightforward structure and to provide greater clarity and contemporary relevance. Other changes have been made in order to restructure the book and to provide room for the substantial new material. Overall, the book is roughly the same length as the last edition due to cuts and streamlining. This has also involved rethinking the placement of some material, such as to group together the grants and appropriations powers of the Commonwealth. The material dealing with human rights has been substantially restructured with the chapters dealing with the implied freedom of political communication rewritten to take account of new developments and to provide space for major new cases. The final chapter on constitutional change has also been reworked to include a section dealing on Bill of Rights issues as a contrast to that on the republic.

Book Civil Society in the Middle East Volume 2

Download or read book Civil Society in the Middle East Volume 2 written by Norton and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-11-15 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Civil Society in the Middle East is a project of the Department of Politics and the Koverkian Center for Near Eastern Studies, New York University. Project director is Augustus Richard Norton (Boston University). While there is wide disagreement about the outcome among those who follow events in the Middle East, there is little doubt that the regimes in the region are under increasing pressure from their citizens. In rich and poor states alike, incipient movements of men and women are demanding a voice in politics. Recent political developments in Jordan, Yemen, Lebanon, even the future state of Palestine, clearly show the vitality and dynamism of civil society, the melange of associations, clubs, guilds, syndicates, federations, unions, parties and groups which provide a buffer between state and citizen and which are now so clearly at the forefront of political liberalization in the region. Civil Society in the Middle East, a two-volume set of papers providing an unusually detailed and rich assessment of contemporary politics within the Middle East, and in this sense alone, quite literally peerless, is the result of a project of the Department of Politics and the Kevorkian Center for Near Eastern Studies at New York University. Volume I contains contributions by Augustus Richard Norton, Raymond A. Hinnebusch, Laurie Brand, Muhammad Muslih, Mustafa Kamil al-Sayyid, Ghanim al Najjar and Neil Hicks, Eva Bellin, Jill Crystal, Saad al-Din Ibrahim, and Alan Richards.

Book Preserving the People s Post Office

Download or read book Preserving the People s Post Office written by Christopher W. Shaw and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christopher Shaw, the book's author said, "Through preferential postage rates for nonprofits the Postal Service facilitates civic involvement and a healthy democracy." Nader also noted, "Postal employees are fairly remunerated in an increasingly low-wage, low benefit 'Wal-Mart' economy." According to Nader, "Post offices serve as the heart of community life in neighborhoods and towns nationwide and the presence of postal workers on community streets make them safer, as the many beneficiaries of their frequently heroic efforts attest." "The lack of citizen-consumers' involvement in the recently passed postal reform legislation has highlighted the need for a public dialogue about the future of our postal system. The book provides a starting point for that conversation," stated Nader.
