Book Value Price and Profit Classic Reprint

Download or read book Value Price and Profit Classic Reprint written by Karl Marx and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-12 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Value, Price and Profit Among many other characteristics of Marx, this paper shows two especially. These are his patient willingness to make the meaning of his ideas plain to the hum blest student, and the extraordinary clear ness of those ideas. In a partial sense the present volume is an epitome of the first volume of Capital. More than one of us have attempted to ana lyze and simplify that volume._ with not too much success perhaps. In fact, a witty friend and commentator has suggested that what is now required is an explanation by Marx of our explanations of him. I am often asked what is the best succes sion of books for the student to acquire the fundamental principles of Socialism. The question is a difficult one to answer. But, by way of suggestion, one might say, first, Engels' Socialism, Utopian and Scientific, then the present work, the first volume of Capital, and the Student's M am. My small part in the preparation of this work has been reading the manuscript, mak ing a few suggestions as to English forms of expression, dividing the work up into chapters and naming the chapters, and revis ing the proofs for press. All the rest, and by far the most important part, of the work has been done by her whose name appears on the title page. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Philosophy of Trade: Or Outlines of a Theory of Profits and Prices, Including an Examination of the Principles Which Determine the Relative Value of Corn, Labour, and Currency Of the matter and substance of the work itself it becomes me to speak and to think with great humility; for at this moment there is perhaps no subject more gly, if 11 ot hopelessly, beset with difficulty, than the first principles of economical science. Even Adam Smith does not venture to approach that part of his immm'tal Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of N ations, without pausing to bespeak his readers' earnest attention to a subject in its own nature extremely abstracted. They who have attended to this subject most. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. This influence is so pro found and far-reaching that it often leads to important social and political changes. Book Fundamentals of Cost and Profit Calculation Classic Reprint

Download or read book Fundamentals of Cost and Profit Calculation Classic Reprint written by Robert S. Denham and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-01-15 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Fundamentals of Cost and Profit Calculation This book is written for you. It is in tended to help you to throw the searchlight of analysis into those recesses of your business heretofore darkened by the cobwebbed tradi tions and formulas handed down from the age of the tallow candle, the ox cart and the quill pen. The two most Vital factors in business are Cost and Profit, but few there are who can, in any transaction, define the point where the elements of Cost cease to accumulate, and Profit becomes a reality. It is extremely important, now more than at any other time in the history of America, that business men know the cost of doing business, the cost of manufacture, the cost of distribution, and the extent ofthe profits in the business. Thousands of concerns not profitably con ducted are forced to pay taxes on profits which do not exist, because unthinking and misinformed accountants have established incorrect methods of calculation. For the same reason others who should pay taxes will go free. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Wage Labor and Capital

Download or read book Wage Labor and Capital written by Karl Marx and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-25 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Wage-Labor and Capital In this volume are presented two of the earlier writings of Karl Marx, with a special "Introduction" to each by Frederick Engels. The first, entitled Wage-Labor and Capital, was translated for us by Dr. Harriet E. Lothrop, of Boston, from the standard German edition prepared by Engels in 1891. This is the only complete English edition of it that has yet appeared, and its accuracy was doubly secured by a critical comparison of its every sentence with the German text, made at the request of the translator by Herman Simpson, of New York, who also added foot-. notes wherever comment seemed needful. In the performance of their respective task, both kept in mind the allimportant consideration, that in the works of Marx, as in all works, truly scientific, the exact expression is an essential factor and should not, therefore, be sacrificed to "literary style" in its transfer from one language to another. To those who are already acquainted with Marx's later essay on Value, Price, and Profit, this much earlier one on Wage-Labor and Capital will no doubt seem somewhat familiar. Still more familiar will both appear to the industrious reader of Capital. And for obvious reasons. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Profit and Wages

Download or read book Profit and Wages written by Gustav A. Kleene and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Profit and Wages: A Study in the Distribution of Income This is the method of mental experiment with different lines of approach to the problem, the exploitation of different facts and ideas as tentative premises. The forces of our indus trial system are so involved that no conception of its operation could be reached by any attempt to describe its details. In fact the more photo graphic and concrete the picture presented to the mind, the more confusing and difficult the problem becomes. The only feasible pro cedure, therefore, is to seek for essential facts and to reason from these, while deliberately excluding from view a mass of complicating phenomena. Intellectually portable and man ageable results are won by selection only. Com plications must be eliminated, or, in other words, hypothetical assumptions must be made. Economic theory differs from other sciences only in the degree of its hypothetical character. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book The Theory of Value Before Adam Smith Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Theory of Value Before Adam Smith Classic Reprint written by Hannah Robie Sewall and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-30 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Theory of Value Before Adam Smith This explanation has been commented upon as merely an attempt to bring the familiar phenomena of ex changes into accord with the central thought of Aris totle's ethical philosophy,3 that virtuous actions follow a mean between two extremes. Justice, cor rective justice, is a mean between profit and loss. That all exchanges were not just exchanges, that all prices did not represent that value which fulfilled the conditions of corrective justice, he was well aware. Money-making by means of exchange, especially by te tail trade, he regarded with great disfavor. He espe cially condemned usury, the breeding of money from money.' Book The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital

Download or read book The Communist Manifesto and Das Kapital written by Karl Marx and published by Knickerbocker Classics. This book was released on 2019-02-12 with total page 252 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The unabridged versions of these definitive works are now available together as a highly designed paperback with flaps with a new introduction by Robert Weick. Part of the Knickerbocker Classics series, a modern design makes this timeless book a perfect travel companion. Considered to be one of the most influential political writings, The Communist Manifesto is as relevant today as when it was originally published. This pamphlet by the German philosophers Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, published in 1884 as revolutions were erupting across Europe, discusses class struggles and the problems of a capitalist society. After being exiled to London, Marx published the first part of Das Kapital, a theoretical text that argues that capitalism will create greater and greater division in wealth and welfare and ultimately be replaced by a system of common ownership of the means of production. After Marx's death, Engels completed and published the second and third parts from his colleague's notes. The Knickerbocker Classics bring together the essential works of classic authors from around the world in stunning editions to be collected and enjoyed.

Book Science of Value Solving It Classic Reprint

Download or read book Science of Value Solving It Classic Reprint written by Henry Rawie and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-21 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Science of Value Solving It This fact brings about the utmost confusion of theory. It is taken for granted that a condition for a part of the total price for goods must effect the whole price list in the same way, but such is not the case. Because it rains today does not decide that it must rain every day. The law for living things is a law of great classes and is not a law for each unit of any class as it is in material things. It is true the wages of labor must balance with the selling price of the whole product, but such a balance would be impossible if the producing labor was paid the market price for each product and no account was taken of the other labor that must buy what it does not produce. Book Why Prices Rise and Fall Classic Reprint

Download or read book Why Prices Rise and Fall Classic Reprint written by F. W. Pethick Lawrence and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-09 with total page 70 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Why Prices Rise and Fall This little book has been written for the man or woman who wishes to understand the economic basis of prices. For this purpose I have endeavoured to make it as readable as possible by giving a number of illustrations taken from the practical affairs of every-day life. The first four chapters deal with the general principles of making and using, and are of universal application. The next three chapters illustrate exchange and money. Chapters VIII to XI are devoted to an outline of the recognized economic theory of prices based on the system of complete competitive private ownership. I have indicated the basis on which the proceeds are shared out between rent, interest, profits, and wages; and have specially discussed the effects of an increase in wages on prices and of an increase in prices on wages and profits. Chapter XII is concerned with the result of taxation. In Chapter XIII I have explained the basis on which prices are decided when the competitive system gives place to monopoly. Chapter XIV is a brief sketch of the effect of public control on prices under competitive or monopolistic conditions. In Chapter XV I have dis cussed prices under public ownership. In Chapters XVI and XVII, I apply the theories of the preceding chapters to the events of the last six years. Chapter XVIII is a somewhat hazardous attempt to penetrate into the future. Owing to the rigid limits of space, the book is necessarily a mere outline of the subject. But if I have illumined some dark places, still more if I have made this part of the dismal' science intelligible and even interesting, I shall feel that my work has not been in vain. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Falling Prices, and the Remedy ON January first of every year most business houses take their annual account of stock, as upon the rise or fall in the value of the stock on hand at that time depends very largely the profits of the previous year's business. This is such a self-evident fact that all prudent business men wait until stock has been taken, the books bal ameed, and the profit or loss of the past year's business ascertained, before placing contracts for the coming year. Book Cost Records as Profit Makers Classic Reprint

Download or read book Cost Records as Profit Makers Classic Reprint written by Alexander Hamilton Institute and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-10 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Cost Records as Profit Makers As a result of holding the men to the established waste standards and discharging a few who con tinned inefficient, the waste of paper was finally reduced by about two per cent of all paper used. This amounted to an annual saving of about and the only expense involved was the salaries of a few cost clerks. Perhaps the most valuable feature of the cost system installed in the Bolton Press was the prompt ness with which the figures were made available. While promptness of assembling the figures is always an important factor in a cost system, it is especially important in the tracing of waste. Conditions change so rapidly and important circumstances are so easily forgotten that figures only a month or two old are likely to have lost most of their value.
