Book VA Health Care

Download or read book VA Health Care written by Randall B. Williamson and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2009-05 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In FY 2007, the Dept. of Veterans Affairs (VA) spent $4.1 billion on long-term care for veterans. VA provides -- through VA or other providers -- institutional care in nursing homes and non-institutional care in veterans' homes or the community. In 2007, the VA published a long-term care strategic plan through FY 2013. These estimates are based on workload projections -- the amount of care to be provided -- and cost assumptions. This report examined: (1) VA's reporting of planned workload in its 2007 long-term care strategic plan; and (2) VA's long-term care spending estimates, including its cost assumptions and workload projections, in VA's FY 2009 budget justification. Includes recommendations. Charts and tables.

Book Aging Veterans with Disabilities

Download or read book Aging Veterans with Disabilities written by Arie Rimmerman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-10-15 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The number of older war veterans receiving disability benefits is steadily growing and is predicted to rise in the next decade. This book provides comprehensive knowledge about health and psychosocial concerns of veterans aging with disabilities and unmet needs and compares policy in three countries that have been involved in massive warfare in the 20th century––the United Kingdom (UK), the United States (US), and Israel. Using a cross-national comparative study of the policies, legislation and services provided by these three countries, which have significant numbers of aging disabled military veterans, this book provides evidence-based knowledge on the trajectories and attendant mental-health and psychosocial problems this sub-group faces when aging with a disability. It sheds light on the paradox in which most veterans with disabilities in the UK, USA and Israel are older, while the current legislation and budget target younger veterans with disabilities. The book reflects the current debate regarding the desired policy toward older veterans with disabilities in these countries and whether to provide them with proactive health services prior to retirement to prevent "accelerated aging". It also evaluates the dilemma of whether to serve aging veterans separately as a unique population or to provide them with the same services used by the general population. This book will be of interest to all academics and students working in disability studies, rehabilitation studies, gerontology, psychology, sociology, social work, social policy, and law more broadly.

This book was released on 2018-11-16 with total page 596 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A comprehensive guide to the lives and experiences of military service members, veterans, and their families in the United States today, with special emphasis given to those of the post-9/11 era. This reference work provides detailed information on the issues U.S. service members face both stateside and during deployments overseas. Issues covered include relations with family; substance use; housing; educational and job training opportunities; post-traumatic stress disorder and other health issues; and experiences of women, sexual minorities, and ethnic/racial minorities in the armed services. This set also examines major issues related to military service for people close to the men and women who serve our country, such as spouses or partners, children, and parents grappling with such issues as single parenthood during deployment and bereavement at the loss of a loved one. Finally, this set is a valuable resource for people seeking a greater understanding of the issues that confront some military service members and veterans, from chronic health problems to economic vulnerability to suicide to incarceration. The two volumes are written in a comprehensive yet succinct and accessible style by experts familiar with the latest trends and findings.
