Book Introduction to Digital Filters

Download or read book Introduction to Digital Filters written by Julius Orion Smith and published by Julius Smith. This book was released on 2007 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A digital filter can be pictured as a "black box" that accepts a sequence of numbers and emits a new sequence of numbers. In digital audio signal processing applications, such number sequences usually represent sounds. For example, digital filters are used to implement graphic equalizers and other digital audio effects. This book is a gentle introduction to digital filters, including mathematical theory, illustrative examples, some audio applications, and useful software starting points. The theory treatment begins at the high-school level, and covers fundamental concepts in linear systems theory and digital filter analysis. Various "small" digital filters are analyzed as examples, particularly those commonly used in audio applications. Matlab programming examples are emphasized for illustrating the use and development of digital filters in practice.

Book Choosing and Using Astronomical Filters

Download or read book Choosing and Using Astronomical Filters written by Martin Griffiths and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-20 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a casual read through any of the major amateur astronomical magazines will demonstrate, there are filters available for all aspects of optical astronomy. This book provides a ready resource on the use of the following filters, among others, for observational astronomy or for imaging: Light pollution filters Planetary filters Solar filters Neutral density filters for Moon observation Deep-sky filters, for such objects as galaxies, nebulae and more Deep-sky objects can be imaged in much greater detail than was possible many years ago. Amateur astronomers can take photographs that rival those of professional observatories! The ability to do this has been brought about by the revolution in CCD cameras and improved filters. The book pinpoints which astronomical objects are best observed with which filters. Post-processing (using Photoshop) is also discussed, since it is helpful in further improving filtered astro images. The last part of the book is an observational guide to 100 deep sky objects that benefit from the use of filters – all personally observed by the author – with notes on the filters used (or potentially of use) in their observation and imaging. There are also notes on their celestial coordinates, magnitudes and other pertinent information.

Book Research Toward Direct Analysis of Quartz Dust on Filters Using FTIR Spectroscopy

Download or read book Research Toward Direct Analysis of Quartz Dust on Filters Using FTIR Spectroscopy written by Donald P. Tuchman and published by . This book was released on 1992 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. Bureau of Mimes is investigating Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy for on- filter quartz analysis of respirable dust. A custom accessory is described for full-face examination of filters utilizing a large-diameter infrared (IR) beam. The accessory positions samples to match diameters with that of the diverging analytical beam. Sample absorbance is then measured. With nonuniform deposition of dust on collection filters being a major issue for such analyses, this approach is the most direct way to accomplish sample area averaging. The approach is unconventional since it utilizes large-beam geometries instead of the usually desired minimized beam dimensions. The issues and problems involved in the analysis of quartz on a filter matrix are discussed. Absorption bands chosen, light-scattering effects, curved baselines, random noise, interference fringes, and possible solutions to technical difficulties are the topics covered. The more significant findings include a 20-pg detection limit for quartz when the custom accessory is used and minimal occurrence of light-scattering effects at low wavenumbers. The custom accessory performance was satisfactory and merits further work. With continued research, an on-filter method for quartz analysis of respirable dusts seems achievable

Book CRC Handbook of Electrical Filters

Download or read book CRC Handbook of Electrical Filters written by John Taylor and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 450 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Interest in filter theory and design has been growing with the telecommunications industry since the late nineteenth century. Now that telecommunications has become so critical to industry, filter research has assumed even greater importance at companies and academic institutions around the world. The CRC Handbook of Electrical Filters fills in the gaps for engineers and scientists who need a basic introduction to the subject. Unlike the currently available textbooks, which are filled with detailed, highly technical analysis geared to the specialist, this practical guide provides useful information for the non-specialist about the various types of filters, their design, and applications. The handbook covers approximation theory and methods and introduces CAD packages that perform approximation and synthesis for both analog and digital filters. Also included are design methods for LCR, active-RC, digital, mechanical, and switched capacitor (SC) filters. A thorough survey of current design trends rounds out this complete assessment of a key field of study.
