Book Using Cointegration Analysis in Econometric Modelling

Download or read book Using Cointegration Analysis in Econometric Modelling written by Richard I. D. Harris and published by Prentice Hall. This book was released on 1995 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cointegration has become an essential tool for applied economists wanting to estimate time series models. Without some form of testing for cointegration, non-stationary variables can lead to spurious regressions; this book introduces the student and practitioner to (co)integration testing and techniques at a very moderate technical level. The book's aim is a practical one: testing for (co)integration is explained thoroughly and with plenty of examples and there is an emphasis throughout on explaining how these tests are actually performed. Key Features: 'toolkit' approach with an emphasis on practice and the actual tests used, covers the Engle-Granger procedure, covers the Johansen technique, overview of structural VAR modelling, advanced and difficult concepts presented in technical boxes, thus preserving the flow of exposition, and boxed examples throughout. Though the material is presented non-technically, the reader will find that the book covers in detail those techniques that are now becoming standard in the literature. Readers are also taken through examples using relevant software such as PcFiml and Cats (in Rats).

Book The Cointegrated VAR Model

Download or read book The Cointegrated VAR Model written by Katarina Juselius and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2006-12-07 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This valuable text provides a comprehensive introduction to VAR modelling and how it can be applied. In particular, the author focuses on the properties of the Cointegrated VAR model and its implications for macroeconomic inference when data are non-stationary. The text provides a number of insights into the links between statistical econometric modelling and economic theory and gives a thorough treatment of identification of the long-run and short-run structure as well as of the common stochastic trends and the impulse response functions, providing in each case illustrations of applicability. This book presents the main ingredients of the Copenhagen School of Time-Series Econometrics in a transparent and coherent framework. The distinguishing feature of this school is that econometric theory and applications have been developed in close cooperation. The guiding principle is that good econometric work should take econometrics, institutions, and economics seriously. The author uses a single data set throughout most of the book to guide the reader through the econometric theory while also revealing the full implications for the underlying economic model. To test ensure full understanding the book concludes with the introduction of two new data sets to combine readers understanding of econometric theory and economic models, with economic reality.

Book Co integration Error Correction and the Econometric Analysis of Non Stationary Data

Download or read book Co integration Error Correction and the Econometric Analysis of Non Stationary Data written by Anindya Banerjee and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 1993-05-27 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a wide-ranging account of the literature on co-integration and the modelling of integrated processes (those which accumulate the effects of past shocks). Data series which display integrated behaviour are common in economics, although techniques appropriate to analysing such data are of recent origin and there are few existing expositions of the literature. This book focuses on the exploration of relationships among integrated data series and the exploitation of these relationships in dynamic econometric modelling. The concepts of co-integration and error-correction models are fundamental components of the modelling strategy. This area of time-series econometrics has grown in importance over the past decade and is of interest to econometric theorists and applied econometricians alike. By explaining the important concepts informally, but also presenting them formally, the book bridges the gap between purely descriptive and purely theoretical accounts of the literature. The asymptotic theory of integrated processes is described and the tools provided by this theory are used to develop the distributions of estimators and test statistics. Practical modelling advice, and the use of techniques for systems estimation, are also emphasized. A knowledge of econometrics, statistics, and matrix algebra at the level of a final-year undergraduate or first-year undergraduate course in econometrics is sufficient for most of the book. Other mathematical tools are described as they occur.

Book Econometric Analysis of Financial Markets

Download or read book Econometric Analysis of Financial Markets written by Jürgen Kaehler and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This collection of papers represents the state of the art in the applicationof recent econometric methods to the analysis of financial markets. From a methodological point of view the main emphasis is on cointegration analysis and ARCH modelling. In cointegration analysis the links between long-runcomponents of time series are studied. The methods used can be applied to the determination of equilibrium relationships between the variables, whereas ARCH models are concerned with the measurement and analysis of changing variances in time series. These econometric models have been the most significant innovations for the empirical analysis of financial time series in recent years. Other econometric methods and models applied in the papers include factor analysis, vector autoregressions, and Markov-switching models. The papers cover a wide range of issues and theories in financial and international economics: the term structure ofinterest rates, exchange-rate determination, target-zone dynamics, stock-market efficiency, and option pricing.

Book Time Series Models

Download or read book Time Series Models written by D.R. Cox and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2020-11-26 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The analysis prediction and interpolation of economic and other time series has a long history and many applications. Major new developments are taking place, driven partly by the need to analyze financial data. The five papers in this book describe those new developments from various viewpoints and are intended to be an introduction accessible to readers from a range of backgrounds. The book arises out of the second Seminaire European de Statistique (SEMSTAT) held in Oxford in December 1994. This brought together young statisticians from across Europe, and a series of introductory lectures were given on topics at the forefront of current research activity. The lectures form the basis for the five papers contained in the book. The papers by Shephard and Johansen deal respectively with time series models for volatility, i.e. variance heterogeneity, and with cointegration. Clements and Hendry analyze the nature of prediction errors. A complementary review paper by Laird gives a biometrical view of the analysis of short time series. Finally Astrup and Nielsen give a mathematical introduction to the study of option pricing. Whilst the book draws its primary motivation from financial series and from multivariate econometric modelling, the applications are potentially much broader.

Book Multivariate Modelling of Non Stationary Economic Time Series

Download or read book Multivariate Modelling of Non Stationary Economic Time Series written by John Hunter and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-08 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines conventional time series in the context of stationary data prior to a discussion of cointegration, with a focus on multivariate models. The authors provide a detailed and extensive study of impulse responses and forecasting in the stationary and non-stationary context, considering small sample correction, volatility and the impact of different orders of integration. Models with expectations are considered along with alternate methods such as Singular Spectrum Analysis (SSA), the Kalman Filter and Structural Time Series, all in relation to cointegration. Using single equations methods to develop topics, and as examples of the notion of cointegration, Burke, Hunter, and Canepa provide direction and guidance to the now vast literature facing students and graduate economists.

Book Introduction to Modern Time Series Analysis

Download or read book Introduction to Modern Time Series Analysis written by Gebhard Kirchgässner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-10-08 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents modern developments in time series econometrics that are applied to macroeconomic and financial time series, bridging the gap between methods and realistic applications. It presents the most important approaches to the analysis of time series, which may be stationary or nonstationary. Modelling and forecasting univariate time series is the starting point. For multiple stationary time series, Granger causality tests and vector autogressive models are presented. As the modelling of nonstationary uni- or multivariate time series is most important for real applied work, unit root and cointegration analysis as well as vector error correction models are a central topic. Tools for analysing nonstationary data are then transferred to the panel framework. Modelling the (multivariate) volatility of financial time series with autogressive conditional heteroskedastic models is also treated.

Book The Econometric Modelling of Financial Time Series

Download or read book The Econometric Modelling of Financial Time Series written by Terence C. Mills and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2008-03-20 with total page 411 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Terence Mills' best-selling graduate textbook provides detailed coverage of research techniques and findings relating to the empirical analysis of financial markets. In its previous editions it has become required reading for many graduate courses on the econometrics of financial modelling. This third edition, co-authored with Raphael Markellos, contains a wealth of material reflecting the developments of the last decade. Particular attention is paid to the wide range of nonlinear models that are used to analyse financial data observed at high frequencies and to the long memory characteristics found in financial time series. The central material on unit root processes and the modelling of trends and structural breaks has been substantially expanded into a chapter of its own. There is also an extended discussion of the treatment of volatility, accompanied by a new chapter on nonlinearity and its testing.

Book Econometric Models with Panel Data

Download or read book Econometric Models with Panel Data written by César Pérez López and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-01-20 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data panels are a special type of samples in which the behavior of a certain number of economic agents is followed over time. In this way, the researcher can perform economic analysis and specify models with the data of cross section (or cross section) that are obtained when all operators are considered in an instant of time. Different patterns of behaviour of all players together studied in the different temporal moments may thus be assessed. Alternatively, you can perform the same analysis considering time series given by the evolution of each economic agent throughout all the periods of the sample. In the latter case could be considered different patterns for individual to individual behaviour all the time interval of the sample. The book focuses on practical aspects of econometrics of panel data presenting variety of solved exercise with the latest software. STATA, SAS, SPSS and EVIEWS software was used. Book Econometric Modelling of European Money Demand

Download or read book Econometric Modelling of European Money Demand written by Engelbert Plassmann and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003 with total page 222 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The introduction of a single European currency constitutes a remarkable instance of internationalization of monetary policy. Whether a concomitant internationalization can be detected also in the econometric foundations of monetary policy is the problem dealt with in this book. Its basic theoretical ingredients comprise a data-driven approach to econometric modelling and a generalized approach to cross-sectional aggregation. The resulting econometric model systematically combines statistical and economic theory by extending a cointegrated VAR into a structural ECM. The empirical outcome is a data-consistent causal money demand function, isolated within a properly identified dynamic macroeconomic system for Europe.
