Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The incarnation has made mystics of us all. What if we read the gospels as if that were true? In his book Contemplating Christ,Vincent Pizzuto offers an exploration of the interior life for modern contemplatives that is as beautiful as it is compelling. With an emphasis on the gospels and Christian mystical tradition, his book explores ancient themes in new and surprising ways. Drawing on his rich experience as an academic and priest, Pizzuto gradually unfolds the Christian mystery of deification to which the whole of biblical revelation and the Christian contemplative life are ordered: through the incarnation, we have all been made “other Christs” in the world.

  • Author : Brennan Manning
  • Publisher : Multnomah
  • Release : 2004-07-06

Book excerpt: The Signature of Jesus challenges the gospel of "cheap grace" and calls the church to radical discipleship. With passion and boldness, author Brennan Manning invites readers to risk living life as Jesus lived—committed to simplicity, purity of heart, and obedience to the gospel. As a radical alternative this book is offered to Christians who want to live by faith and not by mere “religion,” for those who recognize that many of the burning theological issues in the church today are neither burning nor theological; who see Christianity neither as a moral code or a belief system but as a love affair; who have not forgotten that they are followers of a crucified Christ; who know that following him means living dangerously; who want to live the gospel without compromise; who have no greater desire than to have his signature written on the pages of their lives. “Behold,” Jesus proclaims, “I stand at the door and knock.” You may have already met him at the door…but do you truly know him? Have you been transformed by His furious, passionate, unexplainable love? Join Brennan Manning, the bestselling author of The Ragamuffin Gospel, on a personal journey to experience Christ’s love and live with His passion.

Book Contemplative Youth Ministry

Download or read book Contemplative Youth Ministry written by Mark Yaconelli and published by Zondervan. This book was released on 2011-03-22 with total page 267 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Contemplative Youth Ministry is refreshing rain for dry youth workers and barren youth ministries. More than the same old youth ministry tips and tricks, it gives principles and practices to soak in God’s grace, love, and power. I wish I had read it 15 years ago.” - Kara Powell, Ph.D., executive director, Center for Youth Ministry and Family Ministry, Fuller Theological Seminary “Mark invites readers to be encountered by the presence of Jesus who is always near. This book is transparent about the challenges that churches and families face as they desire to be effective in youth ministry. The book is filled with the honest stories of different kinds of youth ministries representing the breadth of Christianity in the United States. I heartily endorse Contemplative Youth Ministry as a rich encounter with the souls of youth and adults whose lives have been transformed by our very present God.” - Bill Kees, director of youth ministries, Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) “Mark Yaconelli not only reminds us of some of the long-forgotten pathways of faith, he shares with us how it actually looks when men and women who love God practice it with young people. I especially appreciate Mark’s optimism in his perspective of today’s kids, for his insights are grounded in God’s view of them.” - Chap Clark, Ph.D., associate professor of youth, family, and culture, Fuller Theological Seminary “Mark Yaconelli was experimenting with contemplative youth ministry practices before contemplative youth ministry practices became cool. This book has about it the unique air of authenticity. He shares with us in these pages his own journey as a youth worker who actually believes that God’s still small voice speaks louder than the roaring windstorm of our busy youth ministry calendars. It’s a book about creating for our students places of silence and opening up spaces for God to speak.” - Duffy Robbins, professor of youth ministry, Eastern University; author of Enjoy the Silence and This Way to Youth Ministry “Mark Yaconelli has emerged as one of youth ministry’s most provocative ‘voices in the wilderness,’ calling us back to our theological taproots: The contemplative practices that bind our lives to the life of Christ. If Mark’s research has taught us anything, it’s that these practices do not cause youth ministry to take fl ight into a spiritual never-never land; rather they anchor young people—and their churches—in the fertile soil of Christian tradition, in the nitty-gritty of daily life, and in the explosive transformation that awaits us when we wait upon God.” - Kenda Creasy Dean, parent, pastor, and professor of youth, Princeton Theological Seminary; author of Practicing Passion: Youth and the Quest for a Passionate Church

Book Reclaiming the Lost Art of Biblical Meditation

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight. — Psalm 19:14 Do you long to deepen your intimacy with the Lord? To find a sense of soul-steadying peace? To develop emotional strength? Then you will need to pause long enough to be still and know He is God. Trusted Pastor Robert Morgan leads us through a journey into biblical meditation, which, he says, is thinking Scripture—not just reading Scripture or studying Scripture or even thinking about Scripture—but thinking Scripture, contemplating, visualizing, and personifying the precious truths God has given us. The practice is as easy and portable as your brain, as available as your imagination, as near as your Bible, and the benefits are immediate. As you ponder, picture, and personalize God’s Word, you begin looking at life through His lens, viewing the world from His perspective. And as your thoughts become happier and holier and brighter, so do you.

Book Meditation Mentorship Ministry that Teaches Self Control to Improve Parent Child Relationships in Korean Immigrant Families

Download or read book Meditation Mentorship Ministry that Teaches Self Control to Improve Parent Child Relationships in Korean Immigrant Families written by JC Ed Choi and published by JC Publishing. This book was released on 2022-12-05 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My mentoring service was provided to Korean immigrant parents in pastoral settings for the purpose of helping them renew their family spirit and strengthen their relationships with their Canadian-raised children. Both Jean-Guy Nadeau's pastoral praxeology and Richard Osmer's four main tasks were adopted as guideposts since the nature of this project incorporated pastoral, ethical, and practical theological. The empirical/descriptive task of observation includes data collection, analysis, and interpretation within the framework of the research design and plan. The research findings indicate that conflicts between parents and children diminish family spirit within Korean immigrant families. The interpretive task problematizes the research findings by performing contextual analysis and draws on theories of human sciences to show how Korean immigrant families are affected by the traditional Korean value system founded on Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. The normative task of theological interpretation presents how Christian virtues, evangelical qualities of relationships, and ethical norms and teachings of the Church can become incorporated into the lifestyles of Korean immigrant parents who wish to live in harmony with their children and renew their family spirit in full accordance with the Gospel. The pragmatic task of operational re-elaboration implements a ministerial solution formulated on theoretical and spiritual interpretations that are concerned with how the mentoring service can be used to cultivate Christian virtues in Korean immigrant parents, teach them self-control practice, and strengthen their relationships with their children.

Book Living on the Border of the Holy

Download or read book Living on the Border of the Holy written by L. William Countryman and published by Church Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 1999-01-01 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “I wish every self-identified ‘person of faith’ could read this remarkable, thought-provoking book.”—Bruce Bawer, author of Stealing Jesus There is a lot of tension in churches today about whose ministry is primary—that of the laity or of the clergy. Living on the Border of the Holy offers a way of understanding the priesthood of the whole people of God and the priesthood of the ordained by showing both are rooted in the fundamental priestly nature of life. After an exploration of the ministries of laity and ordained, Country examines the implications of this view of priesthood for churches and for those studying for ordination. “For anyone struggling with how to live in the thin places between heaven and earth, Dr. Countryman’s brilliant offer hope, companionship, and the fruits of years of experience. His theory of a ‘fundamental human priesthood’ gives us all a compassionate guide to follow as we enter the borderlands, and it should help end the division between clergy and laity. Countryman’s human priesthood leads us into the future, where God calls us to be.”—Nora Gallagher, author of Things Seen and Unseen: A Year Lived in Faith
