Download or read book Pavement Management Applications Using Geographic Information Systems written by Gerardo W. Flintsch and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2004 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: TRB's National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Synthesis 335: Pavement Management Applications Using Geographic Information Systems examines the state of the practice and knowledge of pavement management systems (PMS) using geographic information systems (GIS) and other spatial technologies, and discusses how the technologies have been combined to enhance the highway management process. The synthesis reviews the principal issues related to PMS data collection, integration, management, and dissemination; applications of spatial technologies for map generation and PMS spatial analysis; and implementation-related issues, including approaches used for integrating PMS and GIS and the different tools used to support pavement management decisions.
Download or read book DSC HISS Modeling Applications for Problems in Mechanics Geomechanics and Structural Mechanics written by Chandrakant S. Desai and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-11-30 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Understanding the mechanical behavior of solids and contacts (interfaces and joints) is vital for the analysis, design, and maintenance of engineering systems. Materials may simultaneously experience the effects of many factors such as elastic, plastic, and creep strains; different loading (stress) paths; volume change under shear stress; and microcracking leading to fracture and failure, strain softening, or degradation. Typically, the available models account for only one factor at a time; however, the disturbed state concept (DSC) with the hierarchical single-surface (HISS) plasticity is a unified modeling approach that can allow for numerous factors simultaneously, and in an integrated manner. DSC/HISS Modeling Applications for Problems in Mechanics, Geomechanics, and Structural Mechanics provides readers with comprehensive information including the basic concepts and applications for the DSC/HISS modeling regarding a wide range of engineering materials and contacts. Uniformity in format and content of each chapter will make it easier for the reader to appreciate the potential of using the DSC/HISS modeling across various applications. Features: • Presents a new and simplified way to learn characterizations and behaviors of materials and contacts under various conditions • Offers modeling applicable to several different materials including geologic (clays, sands, rocks), modified geologic materials (structured soils, overconsolidated soils, expansive soils, loess, frozen soils, chemically treated soils), hydrate-bearing sediments, and more.

Download or read book Project Planning Scheduling and Control in Construction written by Calin M. Popescu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1995-03-20 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Critical Path Method (CPM) and Performance Evaluation and ReviewTechnique (PERT) are widely recognized as the most effectivemethods of keeping large, complex construction projects onschedule, under budget, and up to professional standards. But thesemethods remain underused because they are poorly understood and,due to a host of unfamiliar terms and applications, may seem morecomplicated than they really are. This encyclopedia brings together, in one comprehensive volume, allterms, definitions, and applications related to the time and costmanagement of construction projects. While many of these termsrefer to ancient and venerable building practices, others haveevolved quite recently and refer specifically to modernconstruction and management techniques. Sources include hundreds ofprofessional books, trade journals, and research publications, aswell as planning and scheduling software vendor literature. The detailed glossary of all applicable terms includes across-referenced listing of examples that describe real-worldapplications for each term supplied. An extensive bibliographycovers all applicable books, articles, and periodicals available onproject planning, scheduling, and control using CPM and relatedsubjects. This book is an important quick reference and desktop informationresource for construction planners, schedulers, and controllers, aswell as civil engineers and project managers. It is also theultimate research tool for educators, students, or anyone who seeksto improve their understanding of the management of modernconstruction projects.

Download or read book Installation and Training for the District 21 Pharr Pavement Management System written by Donald R. Smith and published by . This book was released on 1995 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This project pertains to the design and implementation of a microcomputer database system to interface with the current TxDOT statewide mainframe PMIS system. Persons interested in the statewide PMIS system should direct inquiries to the Pavement Management Section Design Division, Texas Department of Transportation. This effort, conducted over a five-year period, has produced a now operational DOS/Windows-based system to download data and pavement scores from the TxDOT mainframe system in Austin, Texas. The system's design is based on the DOS-based DataEase relational database system. Collected pavement data and associated scores are down loaded from Austin to Pharr via 3270 communications link. The import data file is produced by a SAS-JCL job that produces an ASCII file suitable for importation into the district's microcomputer PMIS. Importing at the district level is accomplished by matching the reference marker location fields in the import files to the district level database receiving file's reference marker location fields. The district-level system is then used to assist district personnel in retrieving, sorting, and presenting information (pavement scores) in a timely manner. The system possesses the capability to adjust/modify the data summarization reports and plots to suit individual situations with short time intervals. The current design consists of 10 separate database files, one for each county comprising District 21. The files are structured to store location collected pavement data and associate pavement scores based upon 0.1 mile increments. The current design stores ride, skid, falling weight, and visual data. An additional database file supports the temporary archiving of critical highway segments based upon prespecified critical score values. This file can be sorted in numerous ways in order to rank segments as required and to aid in the formulation of maintenance/rehabilitation strategies within the district.

Book excerpt: As AASH is expected to eventually adopt the MEPDG at its primary pavement design method, it is critical that the SDDOT become familiar with the MEPGD documentation and associated design software. The research conducted under this project was a first step toward achieving this goal.
