Download or read book Age group based patterns of sexual activity condom use and acceptability of HIV preventive measures among Filipino males Who are most at risk written by Romeo Lee and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2016-12-21 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scientific Essay from the year 2016 in the subject Health - Public Health, , language: English, abstract: Current HIV prevention programs in the Philippines have given only some attention to the general adult male population, despite evidence showing that this demographic sector is non-monolithic in terms of their sexual behavior. This report discusses sexual activity, condom use, and acceptability of the most effective HIV preventive measures among population-based Filipino males in order to provide evidence of their HIV risk and of the need for programmatic attention. Data were drawn from a representative sample survey of 3,615 Filipino males aged 15-24, 25-34 and 35-44. Having had sexual experience and being sexually active in primarily heterosexual relationships were markedly common among the respondents, but condom use was uncommon among the group. Except for sexual abstinence, the most effective preventive measures against HIV were all acceptable among high proportions of the respondents. The youngest respondents were the age group that was most at risk for HIV, because of their sexual risk-taking practices. The HIV/AIDS Prevention Program in the Philippines has to bestow attention to population-based Filipino males. Greater attention should be given to those aged 15-24, who should be educated about the risks and consequences of having varied sexual intercourse events and about adopting the most effective preventive measures against HIV.

Book AIDS related Condom Use Among Married Kenyan Men

Download or read book AIDS related Condom Use Among Married Kenyan Men written by F. Nii-Amoo Dodoo and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper examines the use of condom as an AIDS prevention measure among Kenyan men and the misperceptions regarding the transmission of AIDS. The survey was conducted by the Kenya Demographic and Health Survey with a representative sample of 7540 women aged 15-49 years and 2336 men aged 20-54 years. Information on fertility, mortality, maternal and child health, and family planning in Kenya were gathered. The AIDS module was incorporated during the interview and the respondents were asked of their knowledge on AIDS transmission and their sexual activities. During the interview, 92% of the men mentioned sexual intercourse as the only mode of transmission. Background variables like age, education, residence, and marriage type are included as controls in the analysis. Studies reveal that men are twice likely to use condom as birth contraception rather than as an AIDS prevention measure. A more educational approach on the AIDS transmission awareness program must be undertaken by the Kenyan government to change the misconceptions of its people regarding their knowledge that AIDS can be identified physically.
