Book The Story of a Childs Survival of WWII in Nazi Germany

This book was released on 2022-08-03 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pirmasens, their hometown in Germany, was one of the first cities that required the citizens to evacuate as the town was located in close proximity to the French border. The adventures started with the first evacuation from Pirmasens. The evacuees were required to report to the local train station and taken to a safe city by train. During the evacuations, the family was often attacked by machine gun fire from the vertical dive bombers known as Stucka’s. Among other adventures, they found bones of an aborted baby in the woods after they had evacuated their hometown. Going for days without food was not uncommon. They became very creative about obtaining food, clothing, and other necessities which were in rare supply. Pauline recalls the postwar time in 1945 when the Americans came into town to take control. Hitler portrayed the enemy as dark, hunched-over creatures. Posters were hung throughout every city, depicting the enemy. Surprisingly enough, Inge met the first time an American who was tall and handsome, nothing like the creature she expected to see. That was also the first time she ever tasted chewing gum. Chewing gum was the treat the American soldiers handed to the German children during the first encounter. Soon thereafter, the family received care packages from American citizens with food, toys, and clothing. The postwar years were plagued with people starving. At least, shortly after the war, August was able to return home to his family. Together, August and Pauline were able to assure the family that the war was over and now begins the journey of becoming valued members of the German society.

It is 1944, and war has taken the men in Nazi-controlled Austria to the front line. For thirteen-year-old Ursula Hildesheim, life in the village of Felddorf remains almost as it was: bullied by her schoolmates, enlisted in endless chores by her mother and sister, thieving, and running wild with her adored older brother, Anton. But then Russian prisoners escape from the local concentration camp, her mother starts an affair with a married man, her only friend goes missing, and her brother's allegiance to the Hitler Youth emerges in shocking ways--and Ursula finds herself alone, disturbed by dark memories, and surrounded by threat. In this new world of conflict, Ursula discovers a bravery she has never known before and is forced to recognize that danger comes not only from the enemy at the door but from the enemy within. My Own Dear Brother is a remarkable coming-of-age story and an unflinching study of both cruelty and courage. Rich in folklore, it introduces a daring young heroine and a powerful new literary voice.

Book Grey Wolf

Download or read book Grey Wolf written by Simon Dunstan and published by Union Square + ORM. This book was released on 2011-10-04 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Did Hitler—code name “Grey Wolf”—really die in 1945? Gripping new evidence shows what could have happened. The basis for the titular documentary. When Truman asked Stalin in 1945 whether Hitler was dead, Stalin replied bluntly, “No.” As late as 1952, Eisenhower declared: “We have been unable to unearth one bit of tangible evidence of Hitler’s death.” What really happened? Simon Dunstan and Gerrard Williams have compiled extensive evidence—some recently declassified—that Hitler actually fled Berlin and took refuge in a remote Nazi enclave in Argentina. The recent discovery that the famous “Hitler’s skull” in Moscow is female, as well as newly uncovered documents, provide powerful proof for their case. Dunstan and Williams cite people, places, and dates in over 500 detailed notes that identify the plan’s escape route, vehicles, aircraft, U-boats, and hideouts. Among the details: the CIA’s possible involvement and Hitler’s life in Patagonia—including his two daughters. “Describes a ghastly pantomime played out in the names of the Fuhrer and the woman who had been his mistress.” —The Sun “Grey Wolf is more than a conspiracy yarn . . . Its authors show Hitler’s escape was possible . . . a gripping read.” —South China Morning Post “Remarkable detail.” —Sir David Frost, Frost Over the World “Stunning saga of intrigue.” —Pravda “Stunning account of the last days of the Reich.” —Parapolitical.com “I thought the book was hugely thought-provoking and explores some of the untold, murky loose ends of World War Two.” —Dan Snow, broadcaster and historian, The One Show BBC 1 “Laid out in lavish detail.” —Daily Mail

Book Big Bosoms and Square Jaws

Download or read book Big Bosoms and Square Jaws written by Jimmy McDonough and published by Crown. This book was released on 2006-06-27 with total page 498 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Russ Meyer, cult hero, creator of the sexploitation film, and the man the Wall Street Journal called the King Leer of Hollywood, made movies that filled the big screen with “big bosoms and square jaws.” In the first candid and fiendishly researched account of the late cinematic instigator’s life, Jimmy McDonough shows us how Russ Meyer used that formula to turn his own crazed fantasies into movies that made him a millionaire and changed the face of American film forever. This former WWII combat photographer immortalized his personal sexual obsession upon the silver screen, creating box-office gold with The Immoral Mr. Teas in 1959. The modest little film pushed all preexisting limits of on-screen nudity, and with its success, the floodgates of what was permitted to be shown on film were thrust open, never to be closed again. Russ Meyer ignited a true revolution in filmmaking, breaking all sex, nudity, and violence taboos. In a career that spanned more than forty years, Meyer created a body of work that has influenced a legion of filmmakers, fashionistas, comic book artists, rock bands, and even the occasional feminist. Bringing his anecdote- and action-packed biographical style to another renegade of popular culture, New York Times bestselling author of Shakey Jimmy McDonough offers a wild, warts-and-all portrait of Russ Meyer, the director, writer, producer, and commando moviemaking force behind the sexploitation classics Vixen, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! and many others. Big Bosoms and Square Jaws blows the lid off the story of Russ Meyer, from the beginning to his recent tragic demise, creating in the process a vivid portrait of a past America.
