It is to be used as the official basic reference document for the period and areas covered. The Fiscal Year 1953 edition is the eighth edition of the series. Original editions - Army Air Force Statistical Digest (World War II) and supplement Number 1, 1945 were followed by AAF Statistical Digest, 1946 and USAF Statistical Digest 1947. The 1946 and 1947 editions made Air Force Statistics available in summarized form, available as far back as possible, with the exception of Combat Operations. This data is found only in the 1945 edition. The 1948 issue was the first strictly annual publication. The present issue and the 1949, 1950, 1951, and 1952 editions are organized on a Fiscal Year basis.

This book was released on 2015-03-30 with total page 434 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The USAF Statistical Digest summarizes the great volume of statistical information collected and published by the various offices in Headquarters, and certain USAF commands. The more important data on the many activities and operations of the USAF are brought together on a uniform basis to serve as an official and basic reference manual. The Jan 1949 - Jun 1950 "USAF Statistical Digest" is the fifth edition of the publication series. Original editions - Army Air Force Statistical Digest (World War II) and Supplement Number 1, 1945 were followed by AAF Statistical Digest 1946 and USAF Statistical Digest 1947. The present issue includes the majority of the tables carried in the earlier volumes with the exception of the section on World War II combat operations. Historical continuity has been preserved, and each series has been brought forward through 1946. Continuing research in the sources and validity of the data has, in several instances, effected major changes and extended the data to cover earlier periods. Several revisions, both in content and format, have been made during the preparation of this issue. For example, the many reorganizations and regroupings of commands preclude the continuity in any series on personnel information by command. To overcome the changes in command structure, a new box head has been introduced at the appropriate date. By this device, reorganization changes become more readily apparent. Where a command has merely undergone a change in name as in the case of Air Materiel Command - from Air Technical Service Command - the newest name is utilized generally throughout the series.

Book excerpt: The US Air Force Statistical Digest summarizes the great volume of statistical information collected and published by the various offices in USAF Headquarters and certain Air Force Commands. The more important data on the major activities and operations of the USAF are brought together on a uniform basis to serve as an official and basic reference manual. The 1948 Statistical Digest is the third edition in the annual Series. Original editions - Army Air Forces Statistical Digest (World War II) and Supplement Number 1, 1945 were followed by AAF Statistical Digest, 1946 and USAF Statistical Digest, 1947. The 1946 and 1947 editions made available Air Force statistics in summarized form as far back as available, with the exception of Combat Operations. The latter data is found only in the 1945 editions. The present issue is the first strictly annual publication and historical continuity may be accomplished by referring to the previous publications. Many new tables have been added on data which has become available during the preparation of this issue. An effort has been made to cover all phases of the Air Force activities for which this publication is the official statistical yearbook.

Book Coalition Air Warfare in the Korean War 1950 1953

Download or read book Coalition Air Warfare in the Korean War 1950 1953 written by Air Force Historical Foundation. Symposium and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 380 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Korean War, the official history offices of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force and their respective historical associations collaborated to sponsor as comprehensive a symposium as possible, including as participants some of the coalition partners who contributed forces and weapons to the war. The intent of this symposium, titled Coalition Air Warfare during the Korean War, 1950 -1953, was to focus not only on the contributions made by the armed forces of the United States, but also on those of America's allies. The diverse group of panelists and speakers included not only scholars with subject matter expertise, but also veteran soldiers, sailors, and airmen who had served in that conflict. It was hoped that the melding of these diverse perspectives would provide interesting, if sometimes conflicting, views about the Korean War. The symposium organizers designated an agenda of six specific panels for investigation, including Planning and Operations; Air Superiority, Air Support of Ground Forces; Air Interdiction and Bombardment, Air Reconnaissance and Intelligence, and Logistical Support of Air Operations. Each session began with commentary by the panel chairman, which was followed by formal papers, and in some instances included a lively question and answer session. The papers and most of the proceedings found their way into print and are recorded here in an effort to permanently capture the activities, challenges, contributions, and heroics of the coalition air forces and the airmen who fought during the Korean conflict.

Book Citizen airmen a history of the Air Force Reserve 1946 1994

Download or read book Citizen airmen a history of the Air Force Reserve 1946 1994 written by Gerald T. Cantwell and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 1997 with total page 565 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For nearly fifty years, citizen airmen have served in the nation's defense as members of the Air Force Reserve. Citizen Airmen: A History of the Air Force Reserve, 194 & 1994 begins with the fledgling air reserve program initiated in 1916, traces its progress through World War II, and then concentrates on the period 1946 through 1994. The study skillfully describes the process by which a loosely organized program evolved into today's impressive force. The Air Force Reserve story is told within the context of national political and military policy and stresses that over the decades, as national needs have increased, reservists have met the challenges. Initially, the Air Force treated its reserve units as supplemental forces and equipped them with surplus equipment. Shortly after the Air Force Reserve was established in 1948, its members mobilized for Korean War duty and they served throughout the conflict. The Reserve program subsequently fell into disarray and required patient rebuilding. The passage of a series of key federal laws related to personnel issues and the introduction of the air reserve technician program greatly assisted in this rejuvenation process. In the l96Os, the Air Force Reserve demonstrated its mettle as it participated in numerous mobilizations reflecting the Cold War tensions of the era. Reservists were involved in operations ranging from the Berlin Crisis of 1961-1962 to the Southeast Asia mobilizations in 1968. In the 197Os, the Air Force Reserve program assumed heightened importance when the Department of Defense adopted the Total Force Policy. This concept treated the active forces, the National Guard, and all reserve forces as an integrated force. Reservists were now expected to meet the same readiness standards as their active duty counterparts. Since then, the Air Force Reserve has demonstrated its ability to perform a wide variety of missions. Air Reservists participated in American military operations in Grenada and Panama.

Book The Advisory Years to 1965

Download or read book The Advisory Years to 1965 written by Robert Frank Futrell and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 420 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This publication is the first of a series titled The United States Air Force in Southeast Asia. It tells the story of the Air Force's involvement in the region from the end of the second World War until the major infusion of American troops into Vietnam in 1965. During these years, and most noticeably after 1961, the Air Force's principal role in Southeast Asia was to advise the Vietnamese Air Force in its struggle against insurgents seeking the collapse of the Saigon Government. This story includes some issues of universal applicability to the Air Force: the role of air power in an insurgency, the most effective way to advise a foreign ally, and how to coordinate with other American agencies (both military and civilian) which are doing the same thing. It also deals iwth issues unique to the Vietnamese conflict: how to coordinate a centralized, technological modern air force with a feudal, decentralized, indigenous one without overwhelming it, and how best to adapt fighter, reconnaissance, airlift, and liaison planes to a jungle environment. Additional volumes in this series will tell the story of the Air Force in South Vietnam, in Laos, and over North Vietnam until the cessation of the Air Force's direct role in 1973, (Author).

Download or read book History of Strategic and Ballistic Missile Defense Volume I written by Barry Leonard and published by DIANE Publishing. This book was released on 2010-11 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As part of a larger study of the strategic arms competition which developed after World War II between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R., this study of the two countries¿ strategies for air and ballistic missile defense addresses two broad subjects: (1) How did each country approach the problem of defense against the threat from the air? (2) Why did each country accent particular elements of an air defense strategy at various periods between 1945 and 1972? The first question concerns the means that leaders chose for defense against an increasingly sophisticated offensive threat. Includes several appendices of chronologies, tables, charts, maps and notes.

Book History of Strategic Air and Ballistic Missile Defense 1945 1955

Download or read book History of Strategic Air and Ballistic Missile Defense 1945 1955 written by and published by . This book was released on 2009 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the book's Foreword: In the early 1970s, the U.S. Army Center of Military History contracted with BDM Corporation for a history of U.S. efforts to counter Soviet air and missile threats during the Cold War. The resulting two-volume History of Strategic Air and Ballistic Missile Defense covers the years 1945-1972 when the strategic arms competition between the United States and the Soviet Union was at its height. The study was first published for limited distribution in 1975 and recently declassified with minimal redaction. These volumes address the passive and active defense strategies, technologies, and techniques adopted by both U.S. and Soviet defense planners. Much of their actions centered around three common questions: How might we be attacked? How shall we defend our country? What can technology do to solve the basic problems of defending against this new intercontinental threat?
