Urban development problems are realistically seen in this work to involve a multi-dimensional process: the journey of the primitive man to modernity is seen to characterize the fundamental transformational aspects of development as a multifaceted process; the natural urban population growth, the steady shift from rural to urban areas, the social and economic changes happening over a period of time and the national macroeconomic planning and management under which they are realized. These considerations have influenced, at all time, the methods of studying the various aspects of this work, thus culminating in looking at city development in Nigeria, in a period expected to witness increased private sector participation in national economic development in the country. The Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP), in itself, prepared the country for the entrenchment of economic reform programmes and projects guided by free market principles. It has placed strong demands for a new urban development pattern based on more efficient utilization and management of existing resources. Urban growth and development must be re-enacted from the inside of the city.

It is pertinent to note that all species, while evolving and adapting to the demands of their habitats or modernization exigencies, changes dramatically, subjecting the ecologies, which happen to be the fabric of life to the dynamic swirl of physical forces and of rapid decline of species diversity. If we continue to lose large and vital portions of the natural world to extinction of species and other criticalities, we humans would be able to cope, but plants and animals may not be able to adapt to most of these changes, and as a result may die and become extinct, resulting in a break in food chain. A considerable attempt has been made through this book to explicitly cover these emerging concerns or topics, in a consolidated form which will provide effective understanding of environmental problems currently being faced in different world regions and perhaps not just to give the reader a fair knowledge about the huge role the ecology has in the survival of species and existence of man, but to provide the extent to which the state of dynamic equilibrium from nature will deprive the generations yet unborn the right to clean and healthy environment and harmony with nature.

The profi ts maximization, surpluses and heavy taxation realized through levied and derived from the genesis of the raw materials, making it into complete fi nished products, from the subsidiary country Nigeria, by the British global/multinational corporations of (U.A.C.) the United Africa Company, on the poor peasantry/farmers were been appropriated, expropriated back to the U.A.C's parent company in the United Kingdom's ministry of food and supply. The other raw materials/natural resources of the crude petroleum/oil manufacturing economy were been monopolized by the "SHELL" Oil Royal Dutch of Netherlands and British "SHELL" post emerged, based on the concession signed in Britain, as the British government during colonial rule in Nigeria discovered crude oil segments deposits, in the today's south-south at Oloibiri in 1956, province/region in the today, south-south of eastern Nigeria. The "NNPC" the Nigeria indigenous oil transnational corporation, represented the Nigeria federal government crude oil reserve ownership of 55 % (in a shared venture, with "SHELL" British Petroleum and her partner of the Netherland Royal Dutch Oil Co-"SHELL"- "SHELL" owned 30 %) and profi ts made by "SHELL" was transferred to the "SHELL" parent oil Co, Headquarters at Hague, Netherland; Finally, the "OPEC" relationship with Nigeria, and the world oil market, emerged as the oil giant (developing oil organization) permanent inter-governmental organization, seemed competitively world oil organization, bailed out the global oil community in terms of world oil market stock exchange crashes and recessions; global oil gluts, oil embargos, regional civil wars and unrest threatened "OPEC" oil production, intercepts in bailing out the global oil community, via by optimal production and supplies was apparent in "OPEC" sustainability growth and reinforce the world oil market business continuity. "OPEC" main theme was apparently formed to stabilize and fi x oil prices, amongst the member 12 oil producing and exporting countries from the third world. Assist the member oil producer member countries to produce oil in a quota basis system to prevent any oil price manipulations, intimidations, exploitative mechanism of oil sales malpractices and price anomalies.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "South-South Migration and Remittances" reports on preliminary results from an ongoing effort to improve data on bilateral migration stocks. It sets out some working hypotheses on the determinants and socioeconomic implications of South-South migration. Contrary to popular perception that migration is mostly a South-North phenomenon, South-South migration is large. Available data from national censuses suggest that nearly half of the migrants from developing countries reside in other developing countries. Almost 80 percent of South-South migration takes place between countries with contiguous borders. Estimates of South-South remittances range from 9 to 30 percent of developing countries' remittance receipts in 2005. Although the impact of South-South migration on the income of migrants and natives is smaller than for South-North migration, small increases in income can have substantial welfare implications for the poor. The costs of South-South remittances are even higher than those of North-South remittances. These findings suggest that policymakers should pay attention to the complex challenges that developing countries face not only as countries of origin, but also as countries of destination.
