Book Unveiling the Leader Within A Practical Guide to Developing Your Leadership Potential

Download or read book Unveiling the Leader Within A Practical Guide to Developing Your Leadership Potential written by Charles Nehme and published by Charles Nehme. This book was released on with total page 148 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Leadership. It's a word thrown around often, yet its true essence can feel elusive. Is it reserved for CEOs in corner offices, or can it blossom in the heart of a classroom teacher, a community organizer, or even a parent guiding their child? The answer, resounding and clear, is yes. Leadership resides not in titles or positions, but within the potential we all carry to inspire, motivate, and guide others towards a shared vision. This book is not a recipe for becoming a "perfect" leader, for such a creature does not exist. Leadership is a journey, messy and dynamic, shaped by individual strengths, experiences, and the ever-shifting complexities of the world around us. What this book offers is a map, a set of tools, and a companion on that journey. Within these pages, we'll delve into the heart of what makes a leader – their values, strengths, and emotional intelligence. We'll explore how to set a clear vision, build high-performing teams, and navigate the often turbulent waters of change. We'll discuss leading through crisis, fostering innovation, and leaving a lasting legacy. But remember, leadership is not a solo act. It thrives on collaboration, on learning from others, and on the courage to be vulnerable and authentic. As you embark on this journey, consider this book your launchpad, your invitation to engage in dialogue, to share your experiences, and to grow alongside others. Together, let's unlock the extraordinary leader within, and in doing so, shape a more vibrant and impactful world.

Book Leadersmithing

Download or read book Leadersmithing written by Eve Poole and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2017-03-09 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shortlisted for the Business Book Awards 2018 'Leadership' is in danger of becoming a tired phrase in the world of management - it may sound cerebral and important, but more often comes across as static and trite. Which might explain why so many 'leaders' feel like imposters; they may have a vision or masterplan, but the reality is daily messiness, acute uncertainty and fragile loyalty from team members. Often, they have been parachuted in to transform a complex situation, or promoted in unexpected circumstances. Are there more effective ways in which people can learn the art of being a great leader? Being an effective leader is about the daily grind, and it is a far from glamorous existence, but it can be hugely rewarding if leaders are realistic about the choices they face. In many trades and professions, mastery of the subject can take a lifetime; leadership is no different. An apprenticeship approach can breathe life into the development of leaders, day in, day out. Using insights gained by Ashridge Business School about how leaders really learn, Leadersmithing guides readers through the process of becoming more precisely job-ready and more effectively resourced for the challenges they face. The result is a more confident leader, more perceptive as to their vocation and mandate, and able to maintain the most effective position at the very top of their game.

Book How Higher Ed Leaders Derail

  • Author : Patrick Sanaghan
  • Publisher :
  • Release : 2018-05-07

Download or read book How Higher Ed Leaders Derail written by Patrick Sanaghan and published by . This book was released on 2018-05-07 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In higher-ed, there is a widely-held myth that the smartest person in the room should lead. We take for granted that someone who is smart can lead, and when we don't take steps to prepare or develop our people for leadership positions, leaders are more likely to derail. This is a problem, because college and university leaders at all levels increasingly face complex challenges without easy solutions. They are navigating unknown territory. When we lead in the absence of a map, often we rely too heavily on what we already know or think we know well. We fall back on tradition, losing sight of the creativity and the risks we need to take now. We rely more heavily on "smartship" than leadership. We are especially prone to this tendency in higher education because of the unique weight we assign to hierarchy and tradition. This tendency leads to four destructive dynamics, and Pat Sanaghan's new book explores these four in depth and offers specific strategies for countering them. These four include: Derailment of the leader - wherein leaders are often promoted on the basis of academic prowess or past achievement but lack the management training, development, and support needed to succeed. Seduction of the leader - wherein leaders incorrectly believe they are receiving accurate intel about what is happening within their division. Arrogance - wherein we over-emphasize and reward individual achievement rather than encourage leaders to seek broad input and approach complex issues as a team endeavor. Micromanagement - wherein the risk averse culture of higher ed fosters leadership patterns that emphasize control and predictability rather than the risk taking, courage, and empowerment of one's people that leadership in today's higher education requires. EARLY REVIEWS FOR THE BOOK: "Pat Sanaghan has done an excellent job of identifying the unique characteristics of executive positions in higher education and offering a learning agenda that will assure success for university and college leaders. This book should be required reading for any president, and deserves a place on every leader's desk in higher education." - Bob Kustra, President Emeritus, Boise State University "Noting that the academy usually fails to select and prepare leaders with the right traits and experiences, Sanaghan's book is masterful at not only helping leaders prevent derailment and failure, but also at helping new and experienced leaders succeed. This is a wonderful keep-by-your-side manual for higher-ed leaders." - Rebecca Chopp, Chancellor, University of Denver

Book The Extraordinary Leader

Download or read book The Extraordinary Leader written by John H. Zenger and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2002-08-15 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Secrets for developing leadership and competitive advantage in any organization The Extraordinary Leader is a research-based book about leadership. It analyzes 200,000 assessments from 20,000 managers and presents new insights that demystify this complex subject. It clearly establishes the importance of developing great leaders versus being satisfied with merely good ones, and highlights the link between leadership behavior and an organization's performance. From the authors' research, a new model of leadership emerges that challenges long-held beliefs about leadership competencies. The authors identify 16 competencies that tower above all the others-the ones that separate great leaders from the average. One of the book's major breakthroughs is its focus on the importance of maximizing strengths as opposed to merely correcting weaknesses. Further, the importance of balanced strengths is introduced: when strengths are clustered in one area, the leader is less effective than he or she could be with strengths in different areas.
