Book Value Investing in Swiss Real Estate Shares

Download or read book Value Investing in Swiss Real Estate Shares written by Jakob Herzog and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This thesis confronts the Modern Finance Theory with an alternative investment approach: the Value Investing Theory, in order to compare their performances. As studies comparing the performance of the two concepts regarding whole stock market indices and industrial companies are available and research regarding Swiss real estate investment companies is scarce, this thesis focuses on investing in Swiss real estate investment companies. Therefore, this thesis will analyze the companies of the SXI Real Estate Shares Index according to value investment criteria at the date of the launch of the index (01.12.2009) and then a value investing portfolio is created. The performance of this value investing portfolio is then compared with the SXI Real Estate Shares Index performance, both from 01.12.2009 until the termination date of this master thesis (17.01.2016). At the end, this thesis can state which investment theory was more successful regarding investments in Swiss real estate investment companies and provides the base for further implications concerning the two investing theories.

Book Investing in International Real Estate

Download or read book Investing in International Real Estate written by M. A. Hines and published by Praeger. This book was released on 2000-10-30 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With numerous cogent examples from real estate markets worldwide, Dr. Hines makes it clear that investing in foreign real estate is by no means the same as investing domestically. She shows how, why, and when special strategies must be devised to enter the world market; conveys essential information on global investment opportunities; outlines career opportunities and advancement strategies in international investment; and provides insights into international business in the context of global real estate investing. Her focus on industrial, commercial, and residential real estate reflects both the major investment interests of world-class investment professionals and the diversity of real estate market conditions. Her book is thus an essential resource for professional real estate investors, teachers, and their graduate-level students. Dr. Hines focuses on the general investment strategies that successful and profitable international real estate investors have devised over many years and now follow assiduously. Readers gain knowledge of direct investment in industrial, commercial, and residential real estate and through the purchase of securities, such as real estate investment trusts and mortgage backed issues. After discussing basic international real estate differences and general acquisition strategies, the book moves to functional strategies, such as valuation, land development, construction, financing, and tax strategies. Dr. Hines concludes with a coverage of housing and shopping centers, office buildings, and industrial property investment—all of which allow readers to observe the differences among functional areas and then tie them to the differences among investments in various types of properties. Her book covers Western, Eastern, and Central Europe; East, Southeast Central, and South Asia; Africa in general, and Morocco in Northwest Africa in particular; plus the Middle East and North and South America.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Qatar's sizeable oil and natural gas reserves have underpinned its rapid economic growth over the past two decades. Home to the world's largest non-associated gas field, the country is the world's fourth-largest producer of dry natural gas and the largest producer of liquefied natural gas, with hydrocarbons revenues forming the bulk of national income as a result. Although the drop in global energy prices has impacted export revenues, rigorous economic diversification drives in recent years have paid dividends, and in 2015 non-hydrocarbons growth reached 7.7%, compared to a 0.1% contraction for hydrocarbons growth during the same period. The country's financial sector has continued to evolve; Islamic banking in particular has witnessed significant progress. Meanwhile,

Book Women and Politics in Iran Veiling Unveiling and Reveiling

Download or read book Women and Politics in Iran Veiling Unveiling and Reveiling written by Hamideh Sedghi and published by . This book was released on 2014-05-14 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why were urban women veiled in the early 1900s, unveiled from 1936 to 1979, and reveiled after the 1979 revolution? This question forms the basis of Hamideh Sedghi's original and unprecedented contribution to politics and Middle Eastern studies. Using primary and secondary sources, Sedghi offers new knowledge on women's agency in relation to state power. In this rigorous analysis she places contention over women at the centre of the political struggle between secular and religious forces and demonstrates that control over women's identities, sexuality, and labor has been central to the consolidation of state power. Sedghi links politics and culture with economics to present an integrated analysis of the private and public lives of different classes of women and their modes of resistance to state power.

Book Beating the Street

Download or read book Beating the Street written by Peter Lynch and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-03-13 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Legendary money manager Peter Lynch explains his own strategies for investing and offers advice for how to pick stocks and mutual funds to assemble a successful investment portfolio. Develop a Winning Investment Strategy—with Expert Advice from “The Nation’s #1 Money Manager.” Peter Lynch’s “invest in what you know” strategy has made him a household name with investors both big and small. An important key to investing, Lynch says, is to remember that stocks are not lottery tickets. There’s a company behind every stock and a reason companies—and their stocks—perform the way they do. In this book, Peter Lynch shows you how you can become an expert in a company and how you can build a profitable investment portfolio, based on your own experience and insights and on straightforward do-it-yourself research. In Beating the Street, Lynch for the first time explains how to devise a mutual fund strategy, shows his step-by-step strategies for picking stock, and describes how the individual investor can improve his or her investment performance to rival that of the experts. There’s no reason the individual investor can’t match wits with the experts, and this book will show you how.

Book The Third Pillar

Download or read book The Third Pillar written by Raghuram Rajan and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-02-25 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revised and updated Shortlisted for the Financial Times/McKinsey Business Book of the Year Award From one of the most important economic thinkers of our time, a brilliant and far-seeing analysis of the current populist backlash against globalization. Raghuram Rajan, distinguished University of Chicago professor, former IMF chief economist, head of India's central bank, and author of the 2010 FT-Goldman-Sachs Book of the Year Fault Lines, has an unparalleled vantage point onto the social and economic consequences of globalization and their ultimate effect on our politics. In The Third Pillar he offers up a magnificent big-picture framework for understanding how these three forces--the state, markets, and our communities--interact, why things begin to break down, and how we can find our way back to a more secure and stable plane. The "third pillar" of the title is the community we live in. Economists all too often understand their field as the relationship between markets and the state, and they leave squishy social issues for other people. That's not just myopic, Rajan argues; it's dangerous. All economics is actually socioeconomics - all markets are embedded in a web of human relations, values and norms. As he shows, throughout history, technological phase shifts have ripped the market out of those old webs and led to violent backlashes, and to what we now call populism. Eventually, a new equilibrium is reached, but it can be ugly and messy, especially if done wrong. Right now, we're doing it wrong. As markets scale up, the state scales up with it, concentrating economic and political power in flourishing central hubs and leaving the periphery to decompose, figuratively and even literally. Instead, Rajan offers a way to rethink the relationship between the market and civil society and argues for a return to strengthening and empowering local communities as an antidote to growing despair and unrest. Rajan is not a doctrinaire conservative, so his ultimate argument that decision-making has to be devolved to the grass roots or our democracy will continue to wither, is sure to be provocative. But even setting aside its solutions, The Third Pillar is a masterpiece of explication, a book that will be a classic of its kind for its offering of a wise, authoritative and humane explanation of the forces that have wrought such a sea change in our lives.

Book The Muslim Brotherhood in Europe

Download or read book The Muslim Brotherhood in Europe written by Edwin Bakker and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2013-01-08 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Scholars have long debated the intentions of the Muslim Brotherhood in the Middle East. Some claim the organization supports terrorism, while others believe it is a positive force for democratization. Though the Muslim Brotherhood in Europe has attracted less attention, many feel they understand the group just as well. They assume it is closely tied to its Middle Eastern counterpart, with detractors regarding it to be a suspicious, secretive, and centrally-led organization increasing the alienation of Europe's Muslims. Sympathizers, on the other hand, see it as a moderate, westernized, and fully-integrated force for good. This volume complicates both these views, with experts providing richer and more impartial perspectives on the critical issues relating to Europe's Muslim Brotherhood. It follows the growth and operation of these organizations within different European contexts and captures their highly specific relationship with non-Muslim media and authority figures.
