Book Unsteady Effects in Droplet Evaporation and Combustion

Download or read book Unsteady Effects in Droplet Evaporation and Combustion written by Antonio Crespo and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 37 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An asymptotic analysis is presented for the problem of droplet vaporization in a stagnant atmosphere taking into account the unsteady effects in the gas phase. The ratio of the densities of the ambient gas and of the liquid is considered as a small parameter. The results of the classical quasi-steady theories are recovered in the first approximation, and corrections due to unsteady effects are obtained for the vaporization rate and for the droplet lifetime. The analysis is entended to cover the cases when the vaporization rate is enhanced by a fast irreversible reaction between the fuel vapor and an oxidizer in the ambient gas. The ratio of flame radius to droplet radius is found in many practical cases to vary significantly with time in agreement with experimental results. (Modified author abstract).

Book Droplet Combustion at High Pressures with Unsteady Effects

Download or read book Droplet Combustion at High Pressures with Unsteady Effects written by Carlos Sanchez Tarifa and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 80 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To describe subcritical combustion, there are quasisteady theories based on the fact that the ratio of gas density to liquid density, epsilon, is small. At large pressures below critical, epsilon is not too small and unsteady effects become more important. It is found that, far from the droplet, at distances of the order of the droplet radius divided by the square root of epsilon, there is a unsteady region that originates corrections to mass burning rates, given by quasisteady theories, of order square root of epsilon. For most hydrocarbons burning in air the flame is located far from the droplet, and its position is not given, even in first approximation, by quasisteady theories. Unsteady effects are also analyzed for forced convection burning with Peclet numbers of order square root of epsilon. (Author Modified Abstract).

Book Liquid Rocket Engine Combustion Instability

Download or read book Liquid Rocket Engine Combustion Instability written by Vigor Young and published by AIAA. This book was released on 1995 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Annotation Since the invention of the V-2 rocket during World War II, combustion instabilities have been recognized as one of the most difficult problems in the development of liquid propellant rocket engines. This book is the first published in the United States on the subject since NASA's Liquid Rocket Combustion Instability (NASA SP-194) in 1972. In this book, experts cover four major subject areas: engine phenomenology and case studies, fundamental mechanisms of combustion instability, combustion instability analysis, and engine and component testing. Especially noteworthy is the inclusion of technical information from Russia and China--a first.

Book Combustion Physics

Download or read book Combustion Physics written by Chung K. Law and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2010-08-23 with total page 5 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This graduate-level text incorporates these advances in a comprehensive treatment of the fundamental principles of combustion physics. The presentation emphasises analytical proficiency and physical insight, with the former achieved through complete, though abbreviated, derivations at different levels of rigor, and the latter through physical interpretations of analytical solutions, experimental observations, and computational simulations. Exercises are mostly derivative in nature in order to further strengthen the student's mastery of the theory. Implications of the fundamental knowledge gained herein on practical phenomena are discussed whenever appropriate. These distinguishing features provide a solid foundation for an academic program in combustion science and engineering.

Book Combustion and Flame Propagation in Heterogeneous Systems

Download or read book Combustion and Flame Propagation in Heterogeneous Systems written by and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report first summarizes the works carried out on unsteady effects in droplet evaporation and combustion and on the behaviour of hydrazine catalytic thrusters working under steady state conditions. A topic that is presented in more detail, is on the influence of the temperatures of liquid hydrazine and catalyst particle temperatures on the vacuum start characteristics of a reactor. The model used assumes the existence of a liquid front that first advances towards the interior of the catalyst particle by porous action and then recedes towards the exterior. An order of magnitude estimate seems to indicate that during the process, convective heat transfer dominates over conduction, and the analysis shows the existence of a thin thermal front, whose structure is calculated. Then, the liquid penetration is only governed by the initial particle temperature. For low enough initial particle temperatures the thermal front structure reaches the liquid front and the liquid penetration is also influenced by the initial hydrazine temperature.

Book Combustion of Two Phase Reactive Media

Download or read book Combustion of Two Phase Reactive Media written by L. P. Yarin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-14 with total page 570 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Combustion of Two-Phase Reactive Media addresses the complex phenomena involved in the burning of solid and liquid fuels. In fact, the multiplicity of phenomena characteristic of combustion of two-phase media determine the contents. The three parts deal with: the dynamics of a single particle; combustion wave propagation in two-phase reactive media; and thermal regimes of combustion reactors. The book generalizes the results of numerous investigations into the ignition and combustion of solid particles, droplets and bubbles, combustion wave propagation in heterogeneous reactive media, the stability of combustion of two-phase media, as well as the thermal regimes of high-temperature combustion reactors. It merges findings from the authors’ investigations into problems of two-phase flows and material from graduate-level courses they teach at Technion-Israel Institute of Technology.

Book Evaporation and Droplet Growth in Gaseous Media

Download or read book Evaporation and Droplet Growth in Gaseous Media written by N.A. Fuchs and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 81 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evaporation and Droplet Growth in Gaseous Media deals with the evaporation of droplets of liquid in gaseous media and the reverse process of droplet growth in a medium supersaturated with the vapor of the liquid. Thediscussion is restricted to the kinetics of evaporation and growth of droplets of pure liquids (and heat transfer to the same). Comprised of three chapters, this book first examines the quasi-stationary evaporation and growth of droplets that are motionless relative to the medium and the hydrodynamic factor is absent. The Maxwell equation, the basis of the theory of evaporation of droplets in a gaseous medium, is taken into account. The influence of the Stefan flow and the concentration change at the surface on the rate of evaporation are considered, along with the evaporation of droplets in a vessel with absorbing walls and the fall in temperature of both free evaporating droplets and supported evaporating droplets. The second chapter is devoted to the quasi-stationary evaporation of droplets in a stream of gas, that is, droplets moving relative to the medium. The last chapter focuses on non-stationary evaporation and growth of droplets that either motionless or moving relative to the medium. This monograph will be of interest to students, practitioners, and researchers in inorganic and structural chemistry.
