Book excerpt: A shattering drama about the holocaust by the author of Marat/Sade. The stark stage contains nothing more than rows of wooden chairs and small tables for the judge, defense attorney and prosecuting attorney. The top rows are filled by those accused in the Frankfurt trial of the atrocities of Auschwitz. The house lights are kept on which, together with seating the attorneys and the judge in the audience, contributes to the sense of spectator participation. This play is based on the actual testimony and its impact is devastating! Bare stage w/props.
Download or read book Frantz Fanon Psychiatry and Politics written by Nigel C. Gibson and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2017-09-25 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The revolutionary and psychiatrist Frantz Fanon was a foundational figure in postcolonial and decolonial thought and practice, yet his psychiatric work still has only been studied peripherally. That is in part because most of his psychiatric writings have remained untranslated. With a focus on Fanon’s key psychiatry texts, Frantz Fanon: Psychiatry and Politics considers Fanon’s psychiatic writings as materials anticipating as well as accompanying Fanon’s better known work, written between 1952 and 1961 (Black Skin, White Masks, A Dying Colonialism, Toward the African Revolution, The Wretched of the Earth). Both clinical and political, they draw on another notion of psychiatry that intersects history, ethnology, philosophy, and psychoanalysis. The authors argue that Fanon’s work inaugurates a critical ethnopsychiatry based on a new concept of culture (anchored to historical events, particular situations, and lived experience) and on the relationship between the psychological and the cultural. Thus, Gibson and Beneduce contend that Fanon’s psychiatric writings also express Fanon’s wish, as he puts it in The Wretched of the Earth, to “develop a new way of thinking, not only for us but for humanity.”

Download or read book The History of the Jews of Richmond from 1769 to 1917 written by Herbert Tobias Ezekiel and published by . This book was released on 1917 with total page 384 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Jewish community of 1769 to that of 1917 is a far cry--the one resident of colonial times to the lawyers, doctors, bankers, artists, merchant princes and artisans of today. Success to a phenomenal degree has been theirs. What they accomplished has been by virtue of their own brain and good right arm. To penal and eleemosynary institutions they were practically strangers. They have, it is true, figured in the criminal courts--as the brightest of lawyers ; their escutcheons are often crossed with the bar sinister of a rope--it is not pendant from a tree, but a peddler's pack. Of all the successful Jews In Richmond today there is not one of whom it can be truthfully said that he owes aught of it to "pull." Theirs has been the conquest of "push." The remarkable part is all this has been achieved by stress of energy alone. They came to this country with only their good names, their indomitable wills, with the single purpose of "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," and the right to practice their ancient faith as their consciences dictated. -- Pg. Download or read book Decolonizing Madness written by Frantz Fanon and published by Palgrave Macmillan. This book was released on 2019-01-01 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Martiniquian-born theorist, revolutionary, and psychiatrist Frantz Fanon was a foundational figure in postcolonial thought and practice, and along with Foucault and Lacan, he remains an indispensable thinker on the complex interrelationships of identity, politics, and psychoanalysis. His biographers have always noted that his medical career was not a profession he chose by chance but one that reflected his humanist convictions, yet his psychiatric work has only received sustained attention in recent years - and then only from scholars fluent in French. Now available for the first time in English, the pieces collected here demonstrate in concrete ways how Fanon's conception of a radical psychiatry based in human liberation and self-activity was directly related to his philosophy and politics. They offer specific content for ongoing debates over psychiatry and politics in contemporary society, and together form an essential text for anyone working in postcolonial studies, Fanon studies, history, psychiatry, and politics.

Download or read book Institutions juridictionnelles written by Serge Guinchard and published by Dalloz-Sirey. This book was released on 2013 with total page 1098 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
