Shortly after Paul, Peter and James had died, Jerusalem was destroyed, in 70CE. Some reports say more than a million people were slaughtered during that catastrophic time. The Temple burned down; shortly after that, Masada in 73AD; and finally, Jews were despised all over the world and banned from entering Judea for two-hundred years, and were levied a special Judaic-tax to compensate for their errors. These things were, as Iesous had said, 'the end of the world of the Jews', at the time. The Lord came back, just as he had promised: "For just as lightning comes from the East and is seen even to the West, so will be the coming of the Son of Man." Mt 24:27 Buddhists and Hindus embraced the Lord's second coming in c. 75AD. Not just casually, but formally, at the 2nd 4th World Council of Buddhism. New Scriptures released at the time, speak of the Lord's teachings: of our Father in Heaven, of the son, the Holy Spirit, of being reborn a spiritual being, and of universal salvation for all sentient beings. Today, the name of Avalokitesvara, as he is known by His Sanskrit title, is honored by almost two billion easterners as the World Savior. The Lord and a host of spiritual beings working alongside, are here to help every soul-being on Earth, to accomplish spiritual rebirth: enlightenment, to break the cycle of samsara (perpetual reincarnation), and ascend to heaven, or Sukhavati, as it is described in Sanskrit. Jesus' teaching, is that of Avalokitesvara. It sits at the root of Zen, is ingrained in the fiber of Mahayana, and indispensable for unfolding the leaves Hinduism. Book excerpt: The idea of eliminating undesirable traits from human temperament to create a "new man" has been part of moral and political thinking worldwide for millennia. During the Enlightenment, European philosophers sought to construct an ideological framework for reshaping human nature. But it was only among the communist regimes of the twentieth century that such ideas were actually put into practice on a nationwide scale. In this book Yinghong Cheng examines three culturally diverse sociopolitical experiments—the Soviet Union under Lenin and Stalin, China under Mao, and Cuba under Castro—in an attempt to better understand the origins and development of the "new man." The book’s fundamental concerns are how these communist revolutions strove to create a new, morally and psychologically superior, human being and how this task paralleled efforts to create a superior society. To these ends, it addresses a number of questions: What are the intellectual roots of the new man concept? How was this idealistic and utopian goal linked to specific political and economic programs? How do the policies of these particular regimes, based as they are on universal communist ideology, reflect national and cultural traditions? Cheng begins by exploring the origins of the idea of human perfectibility during the Enlightenment. His discussion moves to other European intellectual movements, and then to the creation of the Soviet Man, the first communist new man in world history. Subsequent chapters examine China’s experiment with human nature, starting with the nationalistic debate about a new national character at the turn of the twentieth century; and Cuban perceptions of the new man and his role in propelling the revolution from a nationalist, to a socialist, and finally a communist movement. The last chapter considers the global influence of the Soviet, Chinese, and Cuban experiments. Creating the "New Man" contributes greatly to our understanding of how three very different countries and their leaders carried out problematic and controversial visions and programs. Why have human beings, in many different cultures and epochs, looked to nature as a source of norms for human behavior? From ancient India and ancient Greece, medieval France and Enlightenment America, up to the latest controversies over gay marriage and cloning, natural orders have been enlisted to illustrate and buttress moral orders. Revolutionaries and reactionaries alike have appealed to nature to shore up their causes. No amount of philosophical argument or political critique deters the persistent and pervasive temptation to conflate the “is” of natural orders with the “ought” of moral orders. In this short, pithy work of philosophical anthropology, Lorraine Daston asks why we continually seek moral orders in natural orders, despite so much good counsel to the contrary. She outlines three specific forms of natural order in the Western philosophical tradition—specific natures, local natures, and universal natural laws—and describes how each of these three natural orders has been used to define and oppose a distinctive form of the unnatural. And to misunderstand, or misinterpret, Ratzinger is to misunderstand or misinterpret both the modern history of theology and the Second Vatican Council." Agbaw-Ebai masterfully positions Ratzinger correctly in the history of ideas, and exhibits why Ratzinger will be remembered as one of its main players. Pure rationalists and true believers are equally indebted to him.
