Book United States Air Force Navigator Rated Management

Download or read book United States Air Force Navigator Rated Management written by Quintin H. Hartt and published by . This book was released on 1996-05-01 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This graduate research paper investigates the issues surrounding the current imbalance of navigator manning and its possible relationship to any navigator retention trends. The paper examines two aspects; the first tracing officer personnel policy history and those factors related to the current manning environment, and the second centering on classical retention theory. The final section of this paper discusses the application of the predictors of turnover. Four investigative questions established in Chapter 1 are addressed: (1) What is the historical significance of Air Force personnel policy and what issues surround its evolution? (2) What is the nature of the current navigator force imbalance and how does it support/not support the strategic vision for flying operations? (3) How do perceptions in the career field align with current human resource management theory on employee turnover? and (4) How can the Air Force enhance its retention efforts to help develop a stronger more effective rated force for the future? Although no empirical conclusions can be made by applying data and observations to the turnover predictors, the paper concludes there is potential for the navigator career field to experience lower retention patterns.

Book Navigator Command Potential An Analysis of U S Air Force Pilot Attitudes Toward the Job Satisfaction Characteristics of U S Air Force Navigators

Download or read book Navigator Command Potential An Analysis of U S Air Force Pilot Attitudes Toward the Job Satisfaction Characteristics of U S Air Force Navigators written by James T Denney (Jr) and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study analyzed the self-reported survey responses of 93 U.S. Air Force pilots concerning their perceptions of the command potential and job satisfaction characteristics of navigators. The first objective of this study was to compare the pilot responses with the results obtained from a previous Job Diagnostics Survey of Air Force navigators and Hackman and Oldham's normative data for professional workers. Differences in pilot attitudes were also compared with those of navigators based on the type of aircraft mission. The second objective was to compare responses based on the pilots' military rank and navigator supervisory experience. The third objective evaluated the pilot's opinion of the continued requirement for navigators in Air Force aircraft and of the ability of experienced navigators to perform as mission commanders. Keywords: Navigators, Job satisfaction, Pilots, Theses, Personnel management. (emk).

Book Factors Influencing the Turnover of Rated United States Air Force Officers with Less Than Eleven Years of Service

Download or read book Factors Influencing the Turnover of Rated United States Air Force Officers with Less Than Eleven Years of Service written by and published by . This book was released on 1981 with total page 109 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A current major problem facing Air Force managers is the retention of pilots and navigators in the six to eleven year group. this research uses a conceptual model of turnover as the structure for the study of the pilot and navigator exodus. The USAF Officer Exit Survey, designed and administered by AFMPC, was used as the data base to ascertain the significant determinants of turnover. Assignment policies, satisfaction with supervisory style, pay and benefits were significant determinants for both pilots and navigators. In addition, the opportunity for civilian employment was a significant determinant of turnover for pilots. The authors recommended that the Air Force expand its efforts to improve assignment policies. Some ideas that could be pursued were recommended by the authors. (Author).

Book Job Attitudes of USAF Pilots and Navigators

Download or read book Job Attitudes of USAF Pilots and Navigators written by and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 77 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A continuing problem in the Air Force today is the retention of experienced pilots and navigators (rated officers). Measuring job attitudes of USAF rated officers can be useful in determining possible factors affecting their retention. This study employed the Organizational Assessment Package (OAP) and data from the Air Force's Leadership and Management Development Center (LMDC) to compare and explain significant attitudinal differences among pilots, navigators, and non-rated officers. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with the Newman/Keuls follow-up procedure was used to analyze the data and the results are presented in statistical tables. The study concludes that both pilots and navigators are experiencing less satisfaction in their jobs than are non-rated officers. Recommendations are proposed to reverse this trend and include increasing incentive pay, as well as providing more opportunities for advancement and recognition in the rated officer career field.

Book McPeak s Follies A Comprehensive Look at Rated Management in the 90 s and Beyond

Download or read book McPeak s Follies A Comprehensive Look at Rated Management in the 90 s and Beyond written by and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The United States Air Force is losing pilots at an alarming rate. Current projections predict a shortage of 2,300 military pilots by the year 2000. The Aviation Continuation Pay acceptance rate, which reflects how many pilots who have completed an initial eight year active duty service commitment (ADSC) are willing to accept a new five-year commitment by signing up for the pilot bonus, has fallen from a high of 81 percent in 1994 to 28 percent in 1998. As a result, the ability of the Air Force to maintain combat readiness has become a problem of national significance. This report will thoroughly analyze rated management from 1988 to present. It will rely heavily on three main bodies of work related to the subject: November 1988 Department of Defense Aviator Retention Study, 1995 RAND study on Total Force Pilot Requirements and Management, and the 1995 study conducted by David L. Stum, Ph. D., on employee loyalty in America. It will research all aspects of the retention dilemma using resources available at Air University Library and on the Internet. The paper's objective is to prove the Air Force mismanaged its pilot force in the early nineties while placing too much emphasis on monetary compensation. It will argue that the Air Force is finally recognizing key factors in the rated management process and beginning to take necessary actions to produce a solution. It will conclude that any viable solution must address the role Air Force culture plays in retaining a highly motivated, dedicated workforce into the 21st century.

Book Basic Airman to General The Secret War Other Conflicts

Download or read book Basic Airman to General The Secret War Other Conflicts written by General ''Pete'' Piotrowski and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2014 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the remarkable success of a first-generation Polish kid who, at the age of eighteen, enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was one of less than a handful of basic airmen who rose to the rank of four-star general. More importantly, it covers the reincarnation of WW II Air Commandos under the code name of Jungle Jim, as well as US combat air operations from 1961 through 1967 flying obsolete B-26s and the newest jet fighter, the F-4D. Then airman Piotrowski qualified for aviation cadet training and earned his first wings as a navigator and electronic warfare officer (EWO). Following assignments in Korea and Japan, he returned to the United States for pilot training ranking number one in his class and qualifying for jet fighters. He was selected for Project Jungle Jim and became a leading air force expert in conventional weapons and tactics. His flying ability, combat experience, and tactical expertise led to his assignment at the Air Force Top Gun School to instruct air force generals headed for Vietnam on conventional weapons and tactics. Following school and staff assignments, he was selected to command the Fortieth Tactical Group, Aviano, Italy. He led the group for three years, receiving a rating as "Best Wing in the USAF." Following Aviano, he was a special assistant to, and troubleshooter for, General Jones, air force chief. Shortly thereafter, he was selected to build the 552nd AWAC equipped with the E-3A aircraft and bring it to combat status. Next, he commanded Air Defense TAC, where he was selected to review the Desert One failure with five other officers. He provided inside information on how the rescue attempt in Iran unraveled. On another special assignment, he was sent to Saudi Arabia as a special advisor to the Saudi chief of the defense staff with the mission to improve Saudi Air Defense. Following that, then major general Piotrowski went to Oman with a diplomatic portfolio to forge an agreement with the Omni government on joint military training of US and Omani forces. Subsequently, he was assigned to the Tactical Air Command as the director of operations and vice commander. Here he grappled with a number of aircraft-related problems and brought the stealth fighter into the operational inventory. Next, he commanded Ninth Air Force with twelve subordinate wings with roughly one thousand fighter aircraft assigned, with responsibilities for air warfare in support of ground forces in the Middle East. On one of his many visits to Sudan, he stopped an invasion from Ethiopia in one day. He was promoted to the rank of general to serve as the vice chief of the air force. Here he revealed how the JCS operates, as well as inside information on the capture of the Achille Lauro hijackers and the punitive raid on Libya. His last assignment was commanding the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the United States Space Command (USSPACECOM), where he had the opportunity to host and brief senior military members of the Soviet Union and People's Republic of China.

Book Strengthening U S Air Force Human Capital Management

Download or read book Strengthening U S Air Force Human Capital Management written by National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The USAir Force human capital management (HCM) system is not easily defined or mapped. It affects virtually every part of the Air Force because workforce policies, procedures, and processes impact all offices and organizations that include Airmen and responsibilities and relationships change regularly. To ensure the readiness of Airmen to fulfill the mission of the Air Force, strategic approaches are developed and issued through guidance and actions of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services and the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs. Strengthening US Air Force Human Capital Management assesses and strengthens the various U.S. Air Force initiatives and programs working to improve person-job match and human capital management in coordinated support of optimal mission capability. This report considers the opportunities and challenges associated with related interests and needs across the USAF HCM system as a whole, and makes recommendations to inform improvements to USAF personnel selection and classification and other critical system components across career trajectories. Strengthening US Air Force Human Capital Management offers the Air Force a strategic approach, across a connected HCM system, to develop 21st century human capital capabilities essential for the success of 21st century Airmen.
