This book proposes a novel method for describing the way the healthy brain works, applies this framework to a variety of neurological and psychiatric disorders and seeks to provide new perspectives on treatment and prevention. The scientific and philosophical underpinnings of consciousness, normal perception, and abnormal perception, are explored in a practical manner that will resonate with the reader as they apply the concepts contained herein to their daily lives.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea that the self is inextricably intertwined with the rest of the world—the “oneness hypothesis”—can be found in many of the world’s philosophical and religious traditions. Oneness provides ways to imagine and achieve a more expansive conception of the self as fundamentally connected with other people, creatures, and things. Such views present profound challenges to Western hyperindividualism and its excessive concern with self-interest and tendency toward self-centered behavior. This anthology presents a wide-ranging, interdisciplinary exploration of the nature and implications of the oneness hypothesis. While fundamentally inspired by East and South Asian traditions, in which such a view is often critical to their philosophical approach, this collection also draws upon religious studies, psychology, and Western philosophy, as well as sociology, evolutionary theory, and cognitive neuroscience. Contributors trace the oneness hypothesis through the works of East Asian and Western schools, including Confucianism, Mohism, Daoism, Buddhism, and Platonism and such thinkers as Zhuangzi, Kant, James, and Dewey. They intervene in debates over ethics, cultural difference, identity, group solidarity, and the positive and negative implications of metaphors of organic unity. Challenging dominant views that presume that the proper scope of the mind stops at the boundaries of skin and skull, The Oneness Hypothesis shows that a more relational conception of the self is not only consistent with contemporary science but has the potential to lead to greater happiness and well-being for both individuals and the larger wholes of which they are parts.

Book Working with Oneness

Download or read book Working with Oneness written by Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee and published by The Golden Sufi Center. This book was released on 2002-05-02 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Humanity has been given access to the secrets of oneness, but we need to learn how to work with them. Working with Oneness brings mysticism into the center of the marketplace, into the world of business and technology, and shows how we can work with it in everyday life. The dynamic energy of oneness has the potential to heal the planet and revolutionize life more than we can imagine, but it requires our individual participation and awareness to become fully alive. The energy of oneness is already present but waiting to be lived, and Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee provides a blueprint for working consciously with this energy. As we understand how our consciousness affects the whole fabric of life, the potential for real global change comes alive. Llewellyn Vaughan-Lee stresses the need to change from hierarchical, patriarchal power structures to organic patterns that allow for the free flow of energy and ideas. Through these patterns the dynamic energy of oneness can become part of everyday life. Working with Oneness includes a number of additional important topics, including: the changing energy structure of the planet and how to work with it; the power of individual consciousness; the danger of the desire for spiritual security; the return of joy to everyday life; the awakening of the heart of the world; a new understanding of magic; the use of the imagination; and mystical participation in life with the energy of oneness. Working with Oneness offers guidance on how to work with the energy of oneness, to learn how to participate in life free of the patterns of the past, so that the divine can come alive in every moment of every day. Working with Oneness is mystical activism at its most potent. “There is a growing and eager audience waiting for a vision of unity consciousness... Working with Oneness offers a salutary antidote to worn-out antagonisms. It challenges readers to join other kindred souls in a mystical activism that can bring new hope to humanity.” —Spirituality & Health “A book filled with wonder and the kind of insights that can leap out to your heart and gladden you for having read them. It's words are simple and straightforward—always a blessing—but its message it the most vital and important for the time in which we live. I recommend it.” —David Spangler, author, Blessings: the Art and the Practice

Book From Dualism to Oneness in Psychoanalysis

Download or read book From Dualism to Oneness in Psychoanalysis written by Yorai Sella and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-19 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Dualism to Oneness in Psychoanalysis: A Zen Perspective on the Mind-Body Question focuses on the shift in psychoanalytic thought, from a view of mind-body dualism to a contemporary non-dualistic perspective. Exploring this paradigm shift, Yorai Sella examines the impact of the work of psychoanalysts and researchers, such as Winnicott, Bion, Daniel Stern and Kohut, and delineates the contributions of three major schools of psychoanalytic thought in which the non-dualistic view is exemplified: (1) intersubjective; (2) neuro-psychoanalytic; and (3) mystically inclined psychoanalysis. Reaching beyond the constraints of dualism, Sella delineates the interdisciplinary approaches leading to psychoanalysis's paradigm shift. Focusing on the unique contribution of Zen-Buddhism, the book draws on Ehei Dōgen's philosophy to substantiate the non-duality of subject and object, body and mind - ultimately leading from alienation and duality to what Bion has termed "at one-ment". The way in which psychoanalytic theory and practice may develop further along these lines is demonstrated throughout the book in a variety of clinical vignettes. This book will inform the practice of all psychoanalysts, mental health professionals, psychotherapists and clinicians interested in mind-body issues in psychotherapy, in the philosophy of psychoanalysis, and in East-West dialogue.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From one of the world’s most influential spiritual thinkers, a long-awaited book exploring what it means that Jesus was called “Christ,” and how this forgotten truth can restore hope and meaning to our lives. “Anyone who strives to put their faith into action will find encouragement and inspiration in the pages of this book.”—Melinda Gates In his decades as a globally recognized teacher, Richard Rohr has helped millions realize what is at stake in matters of faith and spirituality. Yet Rohr has never written on the most perennially talked about topic in Christianity: Jesus. Most know who Jesus was, but who was Christ? Is the word simply Jesus’s last name? Too often, Rohr writes, our understandings have been limited by culture, religious debate, and the human tendency to put ourselves at the center. Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr articulates a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world. “God loves things by becoming them,” he writes, and Jesus’s life was meant to declare that humanity has never been separate from God—except by its own negative choice. When we recover this fundamental truth, faith becomes less about proving Jesus was God, and more about learning to recognize the Creator’s presence all around us, and in everyone we meet. Thought-provoking, practical, and full of deep hope and vision, The Universal Christ is a landmark book from one of our most beloved spiritual writers, and an invitation to contemplate how God liberates and loves all that is.

Book Necessary Oneness

  • Pages : 144 pages

Download or read book Necessary Oneness written by Audrey Randolph and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-07 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NECESSARY ONENESS presents Christianity as the practical theology that it is and as it has been intended. Both Volumes are Bible-based, inspirational books that, in their very designs, reveal uniqueness unparalleled to any other because they have been crafted with precision that relates form and content. Volume I is CHILDREN OF GOD; Volume II, GOD WITH US. Both books are short: Volume I is 168 pages, and Volume II is even shorter 88 pages. The premiere editions of both Volumes of NECESSARY ONENESS are collector's items; both have an autograph section that can be presented at book signings for Sister Randolph's signature. (Those presenting the book for such signings will receive a special bookmark.) Readers are hungry for spiritual knowledge, and many have sought such in Eastern religions without realizing that Christianity has always been an exceptionally spiritual religion that endues us with spiritual power. Because of Sister Randolph's experiences as educator; her study of at least ten different churches; her being a thinker with established literary criticism skills; her knowledge of communication theory and practice; her knowledge of rhetorical theory and practice; and especially because of Holy Spirit direction, these unique Volumes can be easily read and understood. The Bible is the most widely read book in the world, but Sister Randolph would add that it is perhaps the most widely read, but misunderstood, book in the world. Seven chapters comprise each of the Volumes, and seven is the number of completion. Each volume has a prologue and epilogue, containing excerpts from the Bible, indicating God as alpha and omega, the beginning and the ending (Revelation to John 1:8 and 11; 21:6-7; 22:12-13; Isaiah 41:4; 44:6; and 48:12). In addition, all of the seven chapters begin with the letter C; C represents the anointed one Christ. Volume I gives the meaning of 3:16 and examines the presentment of oneness in the Bible. Each of the 3:16 verses of the New Testament is presented and explained in Volume II, and a section called activation at the end engages readers in aspects of Christianity that help edify, enlighten, and empower via the Holy Spirit. The preface gives a poem with biblical references following, focusing on important aspects of each Volume. Each chapter of Volume I ends with the same sequence: PRAISE THE LORD, FORGIVE, ASK FOR FORGIVENESS; AUDIBLY PRAY . . . ; AWAIT GOD'S RESPONSE. However, Volume II begins with prayer: AUDIBLY PRAY FOR THE SPIRIT OF WISDOM AND REVELATION IN THE KNOWLEDGE OF HIM. The text is written in third person plural (using pronouns we, us, our, etc.) that focus on unity of THE FAMILY OF GOD. Being Bible-based, the Volumes cite references to prove presented points. Volume I should be read before Volume II as it gives background information, such as the dimensions that give insight into, for example, the transcendent dimension that facilitates understanding of the co-existence of the spiritual and natural. The Volumes can be considered both trade and academic texts because they are scholarly works. They discuss the sacred and secular, presenting allusion and examples to facilitate understanding. Volume I presents several pages that compare SPIRITUAL/BIBLICAL with NATURAL/DISCOVERIES. Furthermore, the claim of German philosopher Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche (1844-1900) that God is dead which is widely acclaimed in academia is refuted. After the epilogue, each Volume ends with a significant two-page spread, pinpointing a serious message. Finally, the last page of each Volume announces Sister Randolph's next publication KNOWING KNOWING: MANIFESTIONS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT. Finally, the logo,* a unique creation of the author, symbolizes Christian oneness. Together, the two Volumes of Necessary Oneness provide a treasury of knowledge, holding valuable investments that have already been provided Christians, who are now joint-heirs with Christ. *The logo re

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the methodological foundation of Islamic thought premised on the cardinal principle of Tawhid, meaning the Oneness of God as the universal law. The consequential methodological worldview arising from the monotheistic unity of knowledge is explained as the theory of consilience, meaning unity of knowledge as the primal ontological reality leading to its epistemological and phenomenological essentials of reasoning and thereby configuring reality. Masudul Alam Choudhury presents a non-mathematical exposition of the theory and applications of Meta-Science of Tawhid, and brings out the essential monotheistic methodological worldview of science.

Now one class of such men endeavor to transfer to things incorporeal and spiritual the ideas they have formed, whether through experience of the bodily senses, or by natural human wit and diligent quickness, or by the aid of art, from things corporeal; so as to seek to measure and conceive of the former by the latter. Download or read book The Ethics of Oneness written by Jeremy David Engels and published by . This book was released on 2021-01-12 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We live in an era defined by a sense of separation, even in the midst of networked connectivity. As cultural climates sour and divisive political structures spread, we are left wondering about our ties to each other. Consequently, there is no better time than now to reconsider ideas of unity. In The Ethics of Oneness, Jeremy David Engels reads the Bhagavad Gita alongside the works of American thinkers Ralph Waldo Emerson and Walt Whitman. Drawing on this rich combination of traditions, Engels presents the notion that individuals are fundamentally interconnected in their shared divinity. In other words, everything is one. If the lessons of oneness are taken to heart, particularly as they were expressed and celebrated by Whitman, and the ethical challenges of oneness considered seriously, Engels thinks it is possible to counter the pervasive and problematic American ideals of hierarchy, exclusion, violence, and domination.

Book Oneness Essence and Self Identity

Download or read book Oneness Essence and Self Identity written by Damien Janos and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2024-07-22 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In how many ways can things be said to be one, how is oneness itself to be defined, and what is its relation to essence and existence? This book engages with these core questions by examining the works of Avicenna (d. 1037 CE), who is widely regarded as the most important philosopher of the Arabic tradition. In this monograph - the first that is exclusively devoted to Avicenna’s henology and to Arabic henology in general - the author analyzes the place and meaning of oneness in Avicenna’s general metaphysics and theology and devotes particular attention to how this notion relates to Avicenna’s theory of quiddity. He contextualizes Avicenna’s doctrines in light of three major intellectual currents (ancient Greek philosophy, early Arabic philosophy, and Islamic theology or kalām) and also offers the first detailed analysis of oneness in the Bahshamite tradition. The book challenges the prevailing interpretation of Avicenna’s henology and adduces new textual evidence to show that Avicenna developed an innovative theory of oneness that expresses the essential reality and self-identity of a thing. This foundational sense of oneness is applied to all the pure quiddities and, in an eminent and prior way, to God.
