Book Clifford Algebra to Geometric Calculus

Download or read book Clifford Algebra to Geometric Calculus written by David Hestenes and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1984 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matrix algebra has been called "the arithmetic of higher mathematics" [Be]. We think the basis for a better arithmetic has long been available, but its versatility has hardly been appreciated, and it has not yet been integrated into the mainstream of mathematics. We refer to the system commonly called 'Clifford Algebra', though we prefer the name 'Geometric Algebra' suggested by Clifford himself. Many distinct algebraic systems have been adapted or developed to express geometric relations and describe geometric structures. Especially notable are those algebras which have been used for this purpose in physics, in particular, the system of complex numbers, the quaternions, matrix algebra, vector, tensor and spinor algebras and the algebra of differential forms. Each of these geometric algebras has some significant advantage over the others in certain applications, so no one of them provides an adequate algebraic structure for all purposes of geometry and physics. At the same time, the algebras overlap considerably, so they provide several different mathematical representations for individual geometrical or physical ideas.

Download or read book Mathematical Statistics written by George R. Terrell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-04-06 with total page 467 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This textbook introduces the mathematical concepts and methods that underlie statistics. The course is unified, in the sense that no prior knowledge of probability theory is assumed, being developed as needed. The book is committed to both a high level of mathematical seriousness and to an intimate connection with application. In its teaching style, the book is * mathematically complete * concrete * constructive * active. The text is aimed at the upper undergraduate or the beginning Masters program level. It assumes the usual two-year college mathematics sequence, including an introduction to multiple integrals, matrix algebra, and infinite series.

Download or read book Love and Math written by Edward Frenkel and published by Basic Books. This book was released on 2013-10-01 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An awesome, globe-spanning, and New York Times bestselling journey through the beauty and power of mathematics What if you had to take an art class in which you were only taught how to paint a fence? What if you were never shown the paintings of van Gogh and Picasso, weren't even told they existed? Alas, this is how math is taught, and so for most of us it becomes the intellectual equivalent of watching paint dry. In Love and Math, renowned mathematician Edward Frenkel reveals a side of math we've never seen, suffused with all the beauty and elegance of a work of art. In this heartfelt and passionate book, Frenkel shows that mathematics, far from occupying a specialist niche, goes to the heart of all matter, uniting us across cultures, time, and space. Love and Math tells two intertwined stories: of the wonders of mathematics and of one young man's journey learning and living it. Having braved a discriminatory educational system to become one of the twenty-first century's leading mathematicians, Frenkel now works on one of the biggest ideas to come out of math in the last 50 years: the Langlands Program. Considered by many to be a Grand Unified Theory of mathematics, the Langlands Program enables researchers to translate findings from one field to another so that they can solve problems, such as Fermat's last theorem, that had seemed intractable before. At its core, Love and Math is a story about accessing a new way of thinking, which can enrich our lives and empower us to better understand the world and our place in it. It is an invitation to discover the magic hidden universe of mathematics.

Download or read book Unified Mathematics written by Louis C Karpinski Ph D and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-01-16 with total page 530 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Book presents a course in elementary mathematics adapted to the needs of students in the freshman year of an ordinary college or technical school course, and of students in the first year of a junior college. The material of the text includes the essential and vital features of the work commonly covered in the past in separate courses in college algebra, trigonometry, and analytical geometry. The fundamental idea of the development is to emphasize the fact that mathematics cannot be artificially divided into compartments with separate labels, as we have been in the habit of doing, and to show the essential unity and harmony and interplay between the two great fields into which mathematics may properly be divided ; viz., analysis and geometry. A further fundamental feature of this work is the insistence upon illustrations drawn from fields with which the ordinary student has real experience. The authors believe that an illustration taken from life adds to the cultural value of the course in mathematics in which this illustration is discussed. Mathematics is essentially a mental discipline, but it is also a powerful tool of science, playing a wonderful part in the development of civilization. Both of these facts are continually emphasized in this text and from different points of approach. The student who has in any sense mastered the material which is presented will at the same time, and without great effort, have acquired a real appreciation of the mathematical problems of physics, of engineering, of the science of statistics, and of science in general.
