Book Unified Elastic Plastic Constitutive Equation and Application to Hydraulic Autofrettage Problems

Download or read book Unified Elastic Plastic Constitutive Equation and Application to Hydraulic Autofrettage Problems written by Barry Bernstein and published by . This book was released on 1978 with total page 21 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Work is reported on the development of a set of unified rate type constitutive equations for elastic and plastic behavior, and of the formulation of generalized plane strain problems of hydraulic autofrettage in terms of these equations, as well as some initial computations in terms of the formulation. The unified equations apply to both loading and unloading. Elasticity is related to uniqueness of solutions of differential equations and occurs when a Lipshitz condition is in force. Plastic yield response occurs during loading when the Lipshitz condition fails. Failure of the Lipshitz condition corresponds to the von Mises yield condition. During yield, the equations automatically become those of Prandtl-Reuss. During unloading, the stable solution dictates a reentry to an elastic regime. Linear elastic-perfectly plastic behavior can be approximated arbitrarily closely. Extension to strain hardening can be included. The problem of generalized plane strain in hydraulic autofrettage is reduced to a system of ordinary differential equations with initial conditions. A computer program is written for the open end condition in the incompressible case with an instruction which insures a slight perturbation during yield.

Book Unified Plasticity for Engineering Applications

Download or read book Unified Plasticity for Engineering Applications written by Sol R. Bodner and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considerably simplified models of macroscopic material behavior, such as the idealization for metals of elastic-time independent plastic response with a yield (onset) criterion, have served the engineering profession well for many years. They are still basic to the design and analysis of most structural applications. In the need to use materials more effectively, there are circumstances where those traditional models are not adequate, and constitutive laws that are more physically realistic have to be employed. This is especially relevant to conditions where the inherent time dependence of inelastic deformations, referred to as "viscoplasticity", is pronounced such as at elevated temperatures and for high strain rates. Unified theories of elastic-viscoplastic material behavior, which are primarily applicable for metals and metallic alloys, combine all aspects of inelastic response into a set of time dependent equations with a single inelastic strain rate variable. For such theories, creep under constant stress, stress relaxation under constant strain, and stress-strain relations at constant rates are each special cases of a general formulation. Those equations mayor may not include a yield criterion, but models which do not separate a fully elastic region from the overall response could be considered "unified" in a more general sense. The theories have reached a level of development and maturity where they are being used in a number of sophisticated engineering applications. However, they have not yet become a standard method of material representation for general engineering practice.

Book Foundations of Elastoplasticity Subloading Surface Model

Download or read book Foundations of Elastoplasticity Subloading Surface Model written by Koichi Hashiguchi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-05-06 with total page 802 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the standard text book of elastoplasticity in which the elastoplasticity theory is comprehensively described from the conventional theory for the monotonic loading to the unconventional theory for the cyclic loading behavior. Explanations of vector-tensor analysis and continuum mechanics are provided first as a foundation for elastoplasticity theory, covering various strain and stress measures and their rates with their objectivities. Elastoplasticity has been highly developed by the creation and formulation of the subloading surface model which is the unified fundamental law for irreversible mechanical phenomena in solids. The assumption that the interior of the yield surface is an elastic domain is excluded in order to describe the plastic strain rate due to the rate of stress inside the yield surface in this model aiming at the prediction of cyclic loading behavior, although the yield surface enclosing the elastic domain is assumed in all the elastoplastic models other than the subloading surface model. Then, the plastic strain rate develops continuously as the stress approaches the yield surface, providing the advantages: 1) The tangent modulus changes continuously, 2) The yield judgment whether the stress reaches the yield surface is not required, 3) The stress is automatically attracted to the yield surface even when it goes out from the yield surface by large loading increments in numerical calculation and 4) The finite strain theory based on the multiplicative decomposition of deformation gradient tensor is formulated exactly. Consequently, the monotonic, the cyclic, the non-proportional loading behaviors for wide classes of materials including soils, rocks and concretes in addition to metals can be described rigorously by the subloading surface model. Further, the viscoplastic constitutive equations in a general rate from the quasi-static to the impact loadings are described, and constitutive equations of friction behavior and its application to the prediction of stick-slip phenomena, etc. are also described in detail. In addition, the return-mapping algorithm, the consistent tangent modulus, etc. are explained for the numerical analyses. Further, the damage, the phase-transformation and the crystal plasticity models are also described in brief. All of them are based on the subloading surface model. The elastoplasticity analysis will be advanced steadily based on the subloading surface model.

Download or read book Elastoplasticity Theory written by Koichi Hashiguchi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-07-16 with total page 466 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was written to serve as the standard textbook of elastoplasticity for students, engineers and researchers in the field of applied mechanics. The present second edition is improved thoroughly from the first edition by selecting the standard theories from various formulations and models, which are required to study the essentials of elastoplasticity steadily and effectively and will remain universally in the history of elastoplasticity. It opens with an explanation of vector-tensor analysis and continuum mechanics as a foundation to study elastoplasticity theory, extending over various strain and stress tensors and their rates. Subsequently, constitutive equations of elastoplastic and viscoplastic deformations for monotonic, cyclic and non-proportional loading behavior in a general rate and their applications to metals and soils are described in detail, and constitutive equations of friction behavior between solids and its application to the prediction of stick-slip phenomena are delineated. In addition, the return-mapping algorithm, the consistent tangent operators and the objective time-integration algorithm of rate tensor are explained in order to enforce the FEM analyses. All the derivation processes and formulations of equations are described in detail without an abbreviation throughout the book. The distinguishable features and importance of this book is the comprehensive description of fundamental concepts and formulations including the objectivity of tensor and constitutive equations, the objective time-derivative of tensor functions, the associated flow rule, the loading criterion, the continuity and smoothness conditions and their substantial physical interpretations in addition to the wide classes of reversible/irreversible constitutive equations of solids and friction behavior between solids.

Book Examples of Rate Theory Constitutive Equations Which Unify Elasticity and Plasticity

Download or read book Examples of Rate Theory Constitutive Equations Which Unify Elasticity and Plasticity written by and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examples of rate theory types of constitutive relations are developed which allow as solutions both elastic and plastic stress-strain relations. Elastic behavior is associated with uniqueness of solutions and plastic behavior with non-uniqueness of solutions of ordinary differential equations. Transition from one elastic solution to another elastic solution through a plastic solution allows the description both of loading and unloading by the same set of constitutive differential equations.

Book Circular Cylinders and Pressure Vessels

Download or read book Circular Cylinders and Pressure Vessels written by Vincenzo Vullo and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-29 with total page 409 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides comprehensive coverage of stress and strain analysis of circular cylinders and pressure vessels, one of the classic topics of machine design theory and methodology. Whereas other books offer only a partial treatment of the subject and frequently consider stress analysis solely in the elastic field, Circular Cylinders and Pressure Vessels broadens the design horizons, analyzing theoretically what happens at pressures that stress the material beyond its yield point and at thermal loads that give rise to creep. The consideration of both traditional and advanced topics ensures that the book will be of value for a broad spectrum of readers, including students in postgraduate, and doctoral programs and established researchers and design engineers. The relations provided will serve as a sound basis for the design of products that are safe, technologically sophisticated, and compliant with standards and codes and for the development of innovative applications.
