Book excerpt: In A LOOK BACK TO SEE AHEAD, Dr. Fisher argues that early twenty-first century America is not unlike the 1970s when young people were forced to participate in an unpopular war; when political upheaval was in the air; when corrupt politicians who lied and deceived the electorate reached a crescendo with Watergate; when drugs were ruining lives; when morality took a holiday; when new forms of bigotry and hatred were hatching; when the automotive industry was in sharp decline, while foreign automakers were eating our lunch; when an energy crisis rocked the land with OPEC's oil embargo; when a paranoid president hunkered down and became a law unto himself; when Congress stayed the same, missed the changes, wouldn't face them, and left the future up for grabs. Sound familiar? Well, it should because today we are stuck in the 1970s, and haven't found a way to be unstuck. Dr. Fisher brings these facts to the fore and lays down some guidelines for dealing with this by looking back to where we've been to see why we are stuck where we are. He cuts through the psychobabble to show that talent is not enough to find happiness; nor is a winning personality with its many masks enough to ensure success. Each of us must find emotional balance in an irrational world because as he puts it, "the heart can get us into a lot more trouble than the head." The world as it was some thirty years ago is shown with people chasing safety while not moving forward at all. He asks, "Has it or we changed? If not, why not?" This book breaks through our cool façade, canned rhetoric, and mania for being insiders with such chapters as the "wisdom of insecurity" and "movement to sense from nonsense." Dr. Fisher chides the reader to give up the obsession with the future and find fulfillment in the present. He shatters the big lie that science holds the key to our wellness, as it is not immune to the same disease. Only we can unlock that door. The book is an invitation to do just that.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Her eyes were filled with fear and glistened with tears as she imploringly searched my face. “Nobody will talk to me about dying,” the young girl said. “I’m twelve years old and I’ve got stage four lymphoblastic leukemia. I’m dying and scared. Why would God give a nice kid like me cancer? I’ve never done anything to Him. Does it hurt to die? Is it scary? What if I go to hell and burn for all eternity? I think I would hate heaven. My mom, my brother, my dog Patches and all of my friends are here. I would cry every second I was there. How does a soul get out of the body? How do you know where to go? I pray and pray and I just keep getting worse. This is so unfair!” At times like this, platitudes don’t help, only hardcore truths based on careful research. This book not only answers those questions, but invites you to join Jake and the Monk as they interact and their friendship grows. This book addresses the major difficulties we all encounter on life’s journeys. All of the events are based on true situations that I have encountered in over fifty years of teaching and counseling. Join us on this journey of enlightenment. You will learn how and why thoughts become things, as well as how to script and attract whatever you desire. I don’t believe it is accidental that we are having this conversation. Please join me as we travel through what I have learned in the past fifty plus years. This is a fun, entertaining read based on real people and events. I predict this will be an important read and reference book in your library. Thank you for your time and consideration. Blessed Be, Lynn E. O’Leary

Download or read book Emotional Reasoning written by Eva Déli and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2024-08-30 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Neuroscience has made significant progress in understanding the brain, but the nature of consciousness remains elusive. At the same time, recent spectacular advancements in artificial intelligence promise the prospect of machines attaining human-like cognitive abilities. At the center of both systems is a fundamental dance of stimuli and response, requiring a profound comprehension of the physical environment. Thus, quantum mechanics and general relativity can be applied to the mysteries of human behavior, such as the difficulty of predicting, controlling, or retracing our thoughts. This landmark book explores the nature of consciousness through the lens of physics rather than neuroscience. Physics has been an explanatory force in diverse phenomena, and it can offer an entirely new vision of consciousness as an irreducible entity, similar to particles, the fundamental units of energy or matter. The fermionic mind hypothesis emerges as a tour-de-force synthesis and framework for understanding consciousness, reimagined as the elemental unit of intellect. It highlights particle organization, a fundamental structure that cannot be understood as the sum of its parts, as the essential analogy between fermions and consciousness. The book presents an engaging scientific narrative that explores some of humanity's oldest and most challenging questions. What is consciousness? What are emotions? How can a physical brain create subjective experience? Do we have free will? Engaging and penetrating, Emotional Reasoning represents a groundbreaking perspective that will surprise you at every turn. It will enhance your confidence through understanding yourself and your place in the cosmic order. Beyond neuroscience, the book holds profound implications for artificial intelligence research. It reveals the intricate link between consciousness and the physical universe, echoing the philosophical insight of theoretical physicist John Wheeler: "The physical world is, in some deep sense, tied to the human being."
