Book Policy Guidelines for the Development and Promotion of Open Access

Download or read book Policy Guidelines for the Development and Promotion of Open Access written by Swan, Alma and published by UNESCO Publishing. This book was released on 2012-04-10 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: UNESCO issued this publication to demystify the concept of open access (OA) and to provide concrete steps on putting relevant policies in place. Its focus is on scientific research from peer-reviewed journal articles. Building capacities in Member States for Open Access is a necessary but not sufficient condition for promotion of the concept. Creating an enabling policy environment for OA is therefore a priority. This publication will serve the needs of OA policy development at the government, institutional and funding agency level. The overall objective of the Policy Guidelines is to promote Open Access in Member States by facilitating understanding of all relevant issues related to Open Access. The guidelines are not prescriptive in nature, but are suggestive to facilitate knowledge-based decision-making to adopt OA policies and strengthen national research systems.

Book New Directions in Genocide Research

Download or read book New Directions in Genocide Research written by Adam Jones and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2012-03-12 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Genocide studies is a relatively new field of comparative inquiry, but recent years have seen an increasing range of themes and subject-matter being addressed that reflect a variety of features of the field and transformations within it. This edited book brings together established scholars with rising stars and seeks to capture the range of new approaches, theories, and case studies in the field. The book is divided into three broad sections: Section I focuses on broad theories of comparative genocide, covering a number of different perspectives. Section II critically reconsiders core themes of genocide studies and unfolds a range of challenging new directions, including cultural genocide, gender and genocide (as it pertains to both women and men), structural violence, and the novel application of remote-sensing technologies to the detection and study of genocide. Section III is case-study focused, seeking to place both canonical and little-known cases of genocide in broader comparative perspective. Cases analyzed include genocide in North America, the Nazi Holocaust, the Armenian genocide, and the Sri Lankan genocide. The combination of cutting-edge scholarship and innovative approaches to familiar subjects makes this essential reading for all students and scholars in the field of genocide studies.

Download or read book Sharing your work in open access written by Mishra, Sanjaya and published by UNESCO Publishing. This book was released on 2015-04-27 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. (Trad. Julio Alonso Arévalo. Univ. Salamanca).

Book The Baltic Battle of Books

Download or read book The Baltic Battle of Books written by Jonas Nordin and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-07-03 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the creation, relocation, and reconstruction of libraries between the late Middle Ages and the Age of Confessionalization, that is, the era of religious division and struggle in Northern Europe following the Reformation and Counter-Reformation in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. At the time, different creeds clashed with each other, but it was also a period in which the political and intellectual geography of Europe was redrawn. Centuries-old political, economic, and cultural networks fell apart and were replaced with new ones. Books and libraries were at the centre of these cultural, political, and religious transformations, frequently seized as war booties and appropriated by their new owners in distant locations.
