Book Specific Sports Related Injuries

Download or read book Specific Sports Related Injuries written by Sérgio Rocha Piedade and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-05-12 with total page 544 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive and detailed overview of specific sports-related injuries and a valuable guide for decision-making to establish the best strategies to prevent and manage such injuries. As a thorough understanding of each sports modality plays a key role, both in injury prevention and management, a dedicated chapter is devoted to each sports discipline. An international panel of authors examines all most popular individual and team sports – including athletics, swimming, combat sports, cycling, tennis, American football, baseball, basketball, soccer and volleyball, just to mention a few. Three additional chapters present special aspects related to sports injuries: mental health concerns in athletes, radiological assessment and patient reported-outcomes tailored to sports medicine. All chapters share a consistent format, starting with a brief presentation of the sport and its history, and then discussing its dynamics, physical demands on the athlete, common sports-related injuries, biomechanics of injuries, first aid on the field, and injury prevention. This book offers valuable resource to orthopaedists, sports physicians as well as physiotherapists practicing in the field of sports-related injuries.

Book The Pediatric Anterior Cruciate Ligament

Download or read book The Pediatric Anterior Cruciate Ligament written by Shital N. Parikh and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-11-17 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book fills the void in the existing literature related to the diagnosis and evaluation of pediatric ACL injuries and presents both current and emerging surgical techniques for pediatric ACL reconstruction. Once considered rare, these injuries are on the rise as children are increasingly active and engaged in high-impact sports. Historically, these injuries have been treated with benign neglect, but there is increasing evidence that non-operative treatment approaches can lead to recurrent instability, further injury to the meniscus or cartilage, and eventually joint degeneration. Opening with discussion of epidemiology, developmental anatomy, and assessment and radiography, this one-stop resource then presents conservative and surgical management strategies and algorithms, including ACL reconstruction without bone tunnels, use of epiphyseal tunnels, trans-physeal tunnels, or hybrid techniques. Special attention is given to the young female athlete, complications, prevention strategies, rehabilitation and return to play considerations. Bringing together the latest clinical evidence with the preferred techniques of experts in the field, The Pediatric Anterior Cruciate Ligament is a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the inherent problems in treating ACL injuries in the pediatric patient, useful for pediatric orthopedic surgeons, orthopedic sports medicine surgeons, primary care sports medicine physicians and other professionals working with the young athlete.

Book Thickening Fat

    Book Details:
  • Author : May Friedman
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2019-08-30
  • ISBN : 0429017634
  • Pages : 264 pages

Download or read book Thickening Fat written by May Friedman and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-08-30 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Thickening Fat: Fat Bodies, Intersectionality, and Social Justice seeks to explore the multiple, variable, and embodied experiences of fat oppression and fat activisms. Moving beyond an analysis of fat oppression as singular, this book will aim to unpack the volatility of fat—the mutability of fat embodiments as they correlate with other embodied subjectivities, and the threshold where fat begins to be reviled, celebrated, or amended. In addition, Thickening Fat explores the full range of intersectional and liminal analyses that push beyond the simple addition of two or more subjectivities, looking instead at the complex alchemy of layered and unstable markers of difference and privilege. Cognizant that the concept of intersectionality has been filled out in a plurality of ways, Thickening Fat poses critical questions around how to render analysis of fatness intersectional and to thicken up intersectionality, where intersectionality is attenuated to the shifting and composite and material dimensions to identity, rather than reduced to an “add difference and stir” approach. The chapters in this collection ask what happens when we operationalize intersectionality in fat scholarship and politics, and we position difference at the centre and start of inquiry.

Book Psychoanalysis and Projective Methods in Personality Assessment

Download or read book Psychoanalysis and Projective Methods in Personality Assessment written by Benoît Verdon and published by Hogrefe Publishing. This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Unique synthesis from the French School of psychoanalytical projective methods This unique book synthesizes the work of leading thinkers of the French School of psychoanalytical projective methods in personality assessment. The French School is a direct successor to Rorschach's and Murray's original approaches using the Rorschach Test and the Thematic Apperception Test (TAT). Underlying this method is the idea of the coexistence of conscious and unconscious processes, of opposite instinctual pairs, and of agents that are ruled by conflicts (Freud). Transitional activity is seen as part of an intermediate space, a mediator space, and bearer of messages between the subject and the clinician (Winnicott). This book brings to life the important contributions of the French School, firstly exploring its theories and methods and then its clinical applications. Detailed case studies from different stages of life examine the psychopathology of everyday life with its severe and disabling states of suffering. Contemporary advances in research and clinical work are presented, and the groundbreaking early work of Nina Rausch de Traubenberg, Vica Shentoub, and Rosine Debray are also critically reread and discussed. Clinical tools adapted for clinicians and researchers in the appendices include a useful schema to facilitate the interpretation of the Rorschach and TAT together, a list of latent solicitations for the TAT, and the current version of the TAT Scoring Grid. This book is essential reading for clinical psychologists, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, researchers, and students interested in applying psychoanalytical theory to projective methods"--

Book The Explicitation Interview

Download or read book The Explicitation Interview written by Pierre Vermersch and published by Explicitation Interview. This book was released on 2007-07 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book was first published in French in 1994. It has been a training support to numerous researchers as well as practitioners, such as teachers, health workers, personal or sport trainers. Since then, it has constantly been republished and a glossary has been added in 1998. This version is the first complete edition of the book in English. The main idea of this new interview technique is to help a teacher, a supervisor or a researcher to guide the student, the practitioner or the subject to give a fine retrospective description of an action. As it is only the subject that has access to this mental or physical action, the goal is to help the subject with the verbalization, putting the implicit knowledge of this action in words. Yet, to achieve this verbalization, we need guidance, because we don't know how to give such a description ourselves. If we leave the interviewee without guidance, he risks remaining in the implicit, speaking in a general way, or in an incomplete or imprecise way, commenting instead of describing. The explicit and precise description we aim is the opposite of the implicit, meaning a fine, detailed and complete way of putting the action in words. The final aim is to elucidate what the subject did to seek his goal

This book was released on 2005-07-28 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The DSM and ICD mental illness classificatory systems define mood disorder as essentially a single condition varying only by severity; however, there are major problems with this approach. In this book, Gordon Parker and Vijaya Manicavasagar expose the weaknesses in the existing models, and describe a new approach to sub-typing and managing depression based on there being some specific defined manifestations, including melancholia and psychotic depression, as well as versions of the condition highly dependent on life stresses and personality styles.
