Book Une analyse haute fr quence des quations de l a roacoustique

Download or read book Une analyse haute fr quence des quations de l a roacoustique written by Youness Noumir and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 207 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Acoustics of Musical Instruments

Download or read book Acoustics of Musical Instruments written by Antoine Chaigne and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-12 with total page 855 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, the first English-language translation of Acoustique des instruments de musique, Second Edition, presents the necessary foundations for understanding the complex physical phenomena involved in musical instruments. What is the function of the labium in a flute? Which features of an instrument allow us to make a clear audible distinction between a clarinet and a trumpet? With the help of numerous examples, these questions are addressed in detail. The authors focus in particular on the significant results obtained in the field during the last fifteen years. Their goal is to show that elementary physical models can be used with benefit for various applications in sound synthesis, instrument making, and sound recording. The book is primarily addressed to graduate students and researchers; however it could also be of interest for engineers, musicians, craftsmen, and music lovers who wish to learn about the basics of musical acoustics.

Book Signal Processing for Geologists Geophysicists

Download or read book Signal Processing for Geologists Geophysicists written by Jean-Luc Mari and published by Institut Francais Du Petrole P. This book was released on 1999 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Increasingly sophisticated techniques are available for obtaining seismic sections that give an accurate description of subsurface heterogeneities. These techniques continue to benefit from the progress made in research by signal processing specialists. The aim of this book is to familiarize geologists and geophysicists with the basic concepts of signal processing used in seismic surveys. It shows the value of using a combination of tools to solve a given problem. Many of the examples in this book come from the latest research. Its goal is to improve understanding of the most common signal processing algorithms and to suggest a methodology for testing them. Sometimes, modeling with simple, well-known functions is a very useful way to understand the behavior of a transformation. In this way, we seek to provide the specialist with a critical approach for handling these algorithms. This book will encourage the exchange of information among geologists, geophysicists and signal processing researchers, and will provide them with invaluable technical know-how.

Book History of Nonlinear Oscillations Theory in France 1880 1940

Download or read book History of Nonlinear Oscillations Theory in France 1880 1940 written by Jean-Marc Ginoux and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-04-18 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reveals the French scientific contribution to the mathematical theory of nonlinear oscillations and its development. The work offers a critical examination of sources with a focus on the twentieth century, especially the period between the wars. Readers will see that, contrary to what is often written, France's role has been significant. Important contributions were made through both the work of French scholars from within diverse disciplines (mathematicians, physicists, engineers), and through the geographical crossroads that France provided to scientific communication at the time. This study includes an examination of the period before the First World War which is vital to understanding the work of the later period. By examining literature sources such as periodicals on the topic of electricity from that era, the author has unearthed a very important text by Henri Poincaré, dating from 1908. In this work Poincaré applied the concept of limit cycle (which he had introduced in 1882 through his own works) to study the stability of the oscillations of a device for radio engineering. The “discovery” of this text means that the classical perspective of the historiography of this mathematical theory must be modified. Credit was hitherto attributed to the Russian mathematician Andronov, from correspondence dating to 1929. In the newly discovered Poincaré text there appears to be a strong interaction between science and technology or, more precisely, between mathematical analysis and radio engineering. This feature is one of the main components of the process of developing the theory of nonlinear oscillations. Indeed it is a feature of many of the texts referred to in these chapters, as they trace the significant developments to which France contributed. Scholars in the fields of the history of mathematics and the history of science, and anyone with an interest in the philosophical underpinnings of science will find this a particularly engaging account of scientific discovery and scholarly communication from an era full of exciting developments.
