The aim of such reports is to manage the impacts of underground water extraction by the resource tenure holders. This report represents a revision to the inaugural UWIR that was issued in 2013. Much of theanalysis presented in the 2013 version has been maintained, as it is still representative of currentand proposed operations for PL94 over the next three years.

ATP940P is located approximately 260km west of Thargomindah in southwest Queensland. This Underground Water Impact Report has been prepared to describe the hydro-geological context of the project area and predict the impacts on underground water associated with proposed underground water take of both associated water (extracted in the process of production testing) as well as groundwater sourced from other formations to provide source water for hydraulic fracturing activities. Over the report period (three years), it is expected that the largest development scenario would be the construction of 10 exploration wells and associated treatments such as hydraulic fracturing. The key findings of the report are that overall, no material impacts to underground water resources are predicted as a result of the production testing activities on ATP940P.

As a consequence, the Surat Cumulative Management Area was established on 18 March 2011. As required, the Queensland Water Commission has prepared this final Underground Water Impact Report for approval to the Chief Executive of the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection. On approval, the report becomes a statutory instrument under the Water Act 2000. Obligations for individual petroleum tenure holders for activities arising from the Underground Water Impact Report will then become legally enforceable. The Department of Environment and Heritage Protection will be responsible for ensuring petroleum tenure holders comply with their obligations.
