Book Partial Differential Equations and Functional Analysis

Download or read book Partial Differential Equations and Functional Analysis written by J. Cea and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1996-05-31 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pierre Grisvard, one of the most distinguished French mathematicians, died on April 22, 1994. A Conference was held in November 1994 out of which grew the invited articles contained in this volume. All of the papers are related to functional analysis applied to partial differential equations, which was Grisvard's specialty. Indeed his knowledge of this area was extremely broad. He began his career as one of the very first students of Jacques Louis Lions, and in 1965, he presented his "State Thesis" on interpolation spaces, using in particular, spectral theory for linear operators in Banach spaces. After 1970, he became a specialist in the study of optimal regularity for par tial differential equations with boundary conditions. He studied singulari ties coming from coefficients, boundary conditions, and mainly non-smooth domains, and left a legacy of precise results which have been published in journals and books. Pierre Grisvard spent most of his career as a full professor at the University of Nice, where he started in 1967. For shorter or longer periods, he visited several foreign countries, and collaborated with some of the most famous mathematicians in his field. He was also an excellent organizer and directed a large number of Ph.D. students. Finally, this volume contains a bibliography of Grisvard's works as well as one paper which he wrote and which has not been published before.

Book Evolutionary Equations

Download or read book Evolutionary Equations written by Christian Seifert and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book provides a solution theory for time-dependent partial differential equations, which classically have not been accessible by a unified method. Instead of using sophisticated techniques and methods, the approach is elementary in the sense that only Hilbert space methods and some basic theory of complex analysis are required. Nevertheless, key properties of solutions can be recovered in an elegant manner. Moreover, the strength of this method is demonstrated by a large variety of examples, showing the applicability of the approach of evolutionary equations in various fields. Additionally, a quantitative theory for evolutionary equations is developed. The text is self-contained, providing an excellent source for a first study on evolutionary equations and a decent guide to the available literature on this subject, thus bridging the gap to state-of-the-art mathematical research.

Book Banach Spaces and their Applications in Analysis

Download or read book Banach Spaces and their Applications in Analysis written by Beata Randrianantoanina and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2011-12-22 with total page 465 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years there has been a surge of profound new developments in various aspects of analysis whose connecting thread is the use of Banach space methods. Indeed, many problems seemingly far from the classical geometry of Banach spaces have been solved using Banach space techniques. This volume contains papers by participants of the conference "Banach Spaces and their Applications in Analysis", held in May 2006 at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, in honor of Nigel Kalton's 60th birthday. In addition to research articles contributed by participants, the volume includes invited expository articles by principal speakers of the conference, who are leaders in their areas. These articles present overviews of new developments in each of the conference's main areas of emphasis, namely nonlinear theory, isomorphic theory of Banach spaces including connections with combinatorics and set theory, algebraic and homological methods in Banach spaces, approximation theory and algorithms in Banach spaces. This volume also contains an expository article about the deep and broad mathematical work of Nigel Kalton, written by his long time collaborator, Gilles Godefroy. Godefroy's article, and in fact the entire volume, illustrates the power and versatility of applications of Banach space methods and underlying connections between seemingly distant areas of analysis.

Book Modern Problems in PDEs and Applications

Download or read book Modern Problems in PDEs and Applications written by Marianna Chatzakou and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024 with total page 187 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal aim of the volume is gathering all the contributions given by the speakers (mini courses) and some of the participants (short talks) of the summer school "Modern Problems in PDEs and Applications" held at the Ghent Analysis and PDE Center from 23 August to 2 September 2023. The school was devoted to the study of new techniques and approaches for solving partial differential equations, which can either be considered or arise from the physical point of view or the mathematical perspective. Both sides are extremely important since theories and methods can be developed independently, aiming to gather each other in a common objective. The aim of the summer school was to progress and advance in the problems considered. Note that real-world problems and their applications are classical study trends in physical or mathematical modelling. The summer school was organised in a friendly atmosphere and synergy, and it was an excellent opportunity to promote and encourage the development of the subject in the community.

Book Numerical Treatment and Analysis of Time Fractional Evolution Equations

Download or read book Numerical Treatment and Analysis of Time Fractional Evolution Equations written by Bangti Jin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-02-26 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses numerical methods for solving time-fractional evolution equations. The approach is based on first discretizing in the spatial variables by the Galerkin finite element method, using piecewise linear trial functions, and then applying suitable time stepping schemes, of the type either convolution quadrature or finite difference. The main concern is on stability and error analysis of approximate solutions, efficient implementation and qualitative properties, under various regularity assumptions on the problem data, using tools from semigroup theory and Laplace transform. The book provides a comprehensive survey on the present ideas and methods of analysis, and it covers most important topics in this active area of research. It is recommended for graduate students and researchers in applied and computational mathematics, particularly numerical analysis.

Download or read book Particles in Flows written by Tomáš Bodnár and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2017-09-30 with total page 526 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book aims to face particles in flows from many different, but essentially interconnected sides and points of view. Thus the selection of authors and topics represented in the chapters, ranges from deep mathematical analysis of the associated models, through the techniques of their numerical solution, towards real applications and physical implications. The scope and structure of the book as well as the selection of authors was motivated by the very successful summer course and workshop "Particles in Flows'' that was held in Prague in the August of 2014. This meeting revealed the need for a book dealing with this specific and challenging multidisciplinary subject, i.e. particles in industrial, environmental and biomedical flows and the combination of fluid mechanics, solid body mechanics with various aspects of specific applications.

Book Moving Interfaces and Quasilinear Parabolic Evolution Equations

Download or read book Moving Interfaces and Quasilinear Parabolic Evolution Equations written by Jan Prüss and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2016-07-25 with total page 618 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this monograph, the authors develop a comprehensive approach for the mathematical analysis of a wide array of problems involving moving interfaces. It includes an in-depth study of abstract quasilinear parabolic evolution equations, elliptic and parabolic boundary value problems, transmission problems, one- and two-phase Stokes problems, and the equations of incompressible viscous one- and two-phase fluid flows. The theory of maximal regularity, an essential element, is also fully developed. The authors present a modern approach based on powerful tools in classical analysis, functional analysis, and vector-valued harmonic analysis. The theory is applied to problems in two-phase fluid dynamics and phase transitions, one-phase generalized Newtonian fluids, nematic liquid crystal flows, Maxwell-Stefan diffusion, and a variety of geometric evolution equations. The book also includes a discussion of the underlying physical and thermodynamic principles governing the equations of fluid flows and phase transitions, and an exposition of the geometry of moving hypersurfaces.
