Book Una patria all lejos en el pasado

Download or read book Una patria all lejos en el pasado written by César Andrés Núñez and published by El Colegio de Mexico AC. This book was released on 2011-05-20 with total page 474 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: The miraculous story of Madrid--how a village became a great world city For centuries Madrid was an insignificant settlement on the central Iberian plateau. Under its Muslim rulers the town was fortified and enlarged, but even after the Reconquista it remained secondary to nearby Toledo. But Madrid's fortunes dramatically shifted in the sixteenth century, becoming the centre of a vast global empire. Luke Stegemann tells the surprising story of Madrid's flourishing, and its outsize influence across the world. From Cervantes and Quevedo to Velázquez and Goya, Spain's capital has been home to some of Europe's most influential artists and thinkers. It formed a vital link between Europe and the Americas and became a cauldron of political dissent--not least during the Spanish Civil War, when the city was on the frontline in the fight against fascism. Stegemann places Madrid and its people in global context, showing how the city--fast overtaking Barcelona as a centre of international finance and cultural tourism--has become a melting pot at the heart of Europe and the wider Hispanic world.

Book Commentary and Tradition

Download or read book Commentary and Tradition written by Pierluigi Donini and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2010-12-23 with total page 469 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The volume collects the most important papers Pierluigi Donini wrote in the last three decades with the aim of promoting a better assessment of post-hellenistic philosophy. The philosophical relevance of post-hellenistic philosophy is now widely (though not yet universally) recognized. Yet much remains to be done. The common practice of focusing each single school in itself detracts from a balanced assessment of the strategies exploited by many philosophers of the period. On the assumption that debates among schools play a major role in the philosophy of the commentators, Donini concentrates on the interaction between leading Aristotelians and Platonists and demonstrates that the developments of both systems of thought were heavily influenced by a continuous confrontation between the two schools. And whereas in cases such as Alcinous and Aspasius this is basically uncontroversial, for other authors such us Alexander, Antiochus and Plutarch the pioneering work of Donini paves the way for a better understanding of their doctrines and definitely confirms the intellectual importance of the first imperial age, when the foundations were laid of versions of both Aristotelianism and Platonism which were bound to influence the whole history of European thought, from Late Antiquity onwards.

Book Os corpos dos Romanov

Download or read book Os corpos dos Romanov written by Alberto Ramos and published by Editorial Galaxia. This book was released on 2023-06-30 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: PREMIO DE NARRATIVA BREVE REPSOL 2022 Dous homes entran nun bar. A cidade baleirada devorará a Matthias Lentz, a Wilhelm Wegener e á propia Carol nunha novela sobre o cruzamento involuntario de vidas e pasados, as cicatrices mal disimuladas do trauma e o silencio agreste do que permanece oculto.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The existence of World Literature depends on specific processes, institutions, and actors involved in the global circulation of literary works. The contributions of this volume aim to pay attention to these multiple material dimensions of Latin American 20th and 21st century literatures. From perspectives informed by materialism, sociology, book studies, and digital humanities, the articles of this volume analyze the role of publishing houses, politics of translation, mediators and gatekeepers, allowing insights into the processes that enable books to cross borders and to be transformed into globally circulating commodities. The book focusses both on material (re)sources of literary archives, key actors in literary and cultural markets, prizes and book fairs, as well as on recent dimension of the digital age. Statements of some of the leading representatives of the global publishing world complement these analyses of the operations of selection and aggregation of value to literary texts.
