Book Ultrasonography in Dentomaxillofacial Diagnostics

Download or read book Ultrasonography in Dentomaxillofacial Diagnostics written by Kaan Orhan and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-03-03 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers a comprehensive review of the state of the art in Ultrasonography (USG) dentomaxillofacial imaging to help radiologists and dentists in their training and daily practice. The book examines the relationship between clinical features, diagnosis, and choice of minimally invasive technique for a range of dentomaxillofacial disorders and provides information on post-treatment therapy. Accurate interpretation of indications for treatment is the cornerstone of success in medicine, and as such, the book explains how the selection of imaging technique is closely linked to clinical and diagnostic aspects and how recognition of this relationship forms the foundation for optimal outcomes. In addition to examining the various modalities, the book highlights the role of the latest USG imaging techniques. Further, it discusses in detail the pathology, treatment, and prognosis of common and rare diseases, as well as congenital/developmental malformations in the dentomaxillofacial, an area that is often underestimated and largely ignored by dentists. Featuring updated high-resolution images created with state-of-the-art equipment, the book introduces readers to current imaging modalities. It also includes pathological descriptions of radiologic diagnoses to help clarify the pathophysiology of the disease, while the pearls and pitfalls of image interpretation provide a quick reference guide for practitioners. Written by leading international experts, this outstanding book is a valuable resource for both radiologists, dentists and students seeking a more in-depth appreciation of the subject and its contribution to the scientific radiology community.

Book Bone Quantitative Ultrasound

Download or read book Bone Quantitative Ultrasound written by Pascal Laugier and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-05-05 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many significant achievements in new ultrasound technologies to measure bone and models to elucidate the interaction and the propagation of ultrasonic waves in complex bone structures have been reported over the past ten years. Impaired bone remodeling affects not only the trabecular compartment but also the cortical one. Despite the crucial contribution of the cortical structure to the whole bone mechanical competence, cortical bone was understudied for a long time. A paradigm shift occurred around 2010, with a special focus placed on the importance of cortical bone. This has sparkled a great deal of interest in new ultrasound techniques to assess cortical bone. While our book ‘Bone Quantitative Ultrasound’ published in 2011 emphasized techniques to measure trabecular bone, this new book is devoted for a large part to the technologies introduced recently to measure cortical bone. These include resonant ultrasound spectroscopy, guided waves, scattering, and pulse-echo and tomography imaging techniques. Instrumentation, signal processing techniques and models used are detailed. Importantly, the data accumulated in recent years such as anisotropic stiffness, elastic engineering moduli, compression and shear wave speeds of cortical bones from various skeletal sites are presented comprehensively. A few chapters deal with the recent developments achieved in quantitative ultrasound of trabecular bone. These include (i) scattering-based approaches and their application to measure skeletal sites such as the spine and proximal femur and (ii) approaches exploiting the poro-elastic nature of bone. While bone fragility and osteoporosis are still the main motivation for developing bone QUS, this Book also includes chapters reporting ultrasound techniques developed for other applications of high interest such as 3-D imaging of the spine, assessment of implant stability and transcranial brain imaging. This book, together with the book ‘Bone Quantitative Ultrasound’ published in 2011 will provide a comprehensive overview of the methods and principles used in bone quantitative ultrasound and will be a benchmark for all novice or experienced researchers in the field. The book will offer recent experimental results and theoretical concepts developed so far and would be intended for researchers, graduate or undergraduate students, engineers, and clinicians who are involved in the field. The book should be considered as a complement to the first book publisher in 2011, rather than a second edition, in the sense that basic notions already presented in the first book are not repeated.

Book excerpt: The contents of this volume are the proceedings of the 23'd International Symposium on Acoustical Imaging which took place 13-16 April, 1997, in Boston, Massachusetts. The first Symposium met 25 years ago. Originally the Symposium met in California, then elsewhere within the United States but beginning in 1988 the Symposia began to meet outside of the United States as welL It is now being held about every eighteen months, alternately in the United States and then outside. The present pattern is to hold one meeting in East Asia, then in the USA, then in Europe and again in the USA However, for scheduling reasons the next Symposium will be in Santa Barbara, California, followed by England and then East Asia. It is to be noted that the Symposium is a free standing institution, not associated with any other organization. Each meeting is the total responsibility of its chairman with the advice of past chairmen. Papers are submitted in response to the call for them and reviewed by an International Scientific Advisory Board . . The quality depends entirely on the response to the calL It is gratifYing to note that the Symposium has attained the status that attracts high quality contributions despite (or perhaps because ot) the loose structure. Two factors that have appeal are that there is only one session and that there is time during the meeting for extensive discussion.

Download or read book Ultrasonography in Dentistry written by Jyoti Mago and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2014-03-07 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ultrasonography is one of the advanced imaging techniques which uses sound waves for viewing the normal and pathological conditions of bone and soft tissue. It is used widely for imaging a variety of lesions in the Oral and Maxillofacial region. Ultrasonography, as compared to other imaging modalities, has various advantages. It does not use ionizing radiation. It is cost effective. It produces images in real time. It can yield blood flow information. Besides its use in the diagnostic aspect, ultrasonograhy has proved to be an important therapeutic aid as well. Ultrasonography has proved to be a valuable aid in the diagnostic imaging modalities in cases such as nasal fractures, soft tissue lesions, tongue cancer thickness etc.. Therefore, its use in oral and maxillofacial imaging as a diagnostic tool is remarkable. The development of non-toxic contrast agents, primarily encapsulated gas bubbles, has led to new forms of ultrasonic imaging, such as harmonic imaging and perfusion imaging. Ultrasonography is one of the most important diagnostic aids and a valuable therapeutic aid in the field of medical and dental sciences.
