Book Ukrainian President Zelenskyy s speeches Qualitative content analysis of the speeches to the international community during Russia s war of aggression

Download or read book Ukrainian President Zelenskyy s speeches Qualitative content analysis of the speeches to the international community during Russia s war of aggression written by Maksym Motrouk and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2022-10-25 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seminar paper from the year 2022 in the subject Politics - Topic: Peace and Conflict, Security, grade: 1,3, University of Marburg (Zentrum für Konfliktforschung), course: The War in Ukraine – Perspectives from Ukraine, language: English, abstract: The question of this paper is as follows: How does Zelenskyy try to convince the international community in his speeches to win foreign aid in resisting Russia’s war of aggression? By means of qualitative content analysis according to Kuckartz (2022), categories are to be formed for this purpose, which are referred to as Zelenskyy’s linguistic tools. In this way, certain patterns of persuasion in Zelenskyy’s language are to be identified, which serve to win over the foreign aid. As President of Ukraine, Zelenskyy serves as the central figure in requesting foreign aid. "The fight is here; I need ammunition, not a ride". With these words, the Ukrainian president rejected the US offer to evacuate him on 26 February, when Russian sabotage groups had already entered Kiev. By doing so, he impressed the whole world and proved himself a courageous leader in the resistance against the Russia’s war of aggression on Ukraine. A short time later, Western countries are providing unprecedented amounts of military, humanitarian, and financial aid to Ukraine, which continues to this day. As the war in Ukraine has become a global crisis, the political and academic discourse is often about what governments and international organizations can do to solve the crisis. Consequently, foreign aid to Ukraine counts as a political instrument for this purpose. Thus, donors get to play the central role in the issue of foreign aid, while the role of the recipient is marginalized. This means that the approaches, strategies, or instruments of recipients are hardly considered when it comes to obtaining aid. Yet a high volume of aid could be as much due to the performance of the recipient as to the interest of the donor. A similar situation emerges in the state of research on foreign aid to date. In contrast to the donor perspective, the recipient perspective is neglected. It is surprising, therefore, that there have been no contributions to date on approaches, strategies, or instruments on how borrowers proceed to win foreign aid. The exception here is well-known news services such as BBC or Forbes, which analyzed Zelenskyy’s speeches in journalistic style and succinctly. The aim of this paper is therefore to contribute to filling this research gap.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has won public adoration for his ability to motivate not only Ukrainians but people around the world. He might be the best version of a 21st-century political leader we’ve seen. In many ways, Zelenskyy is the most unlikely of heroes. He grew up as a Russian-speaking Ukrainian Jew in the southeastern part of the country. He earned a law degree and pursued a career in standup comedy and acting. Then, quite incredibly, he starred in the comedy series ‘The Servant of the People’ where he played a high school teacher who suddenly becomes President of Ukraine. In the spring of 2022, the ‘real’ president, Vladimir Putin of Russia, appears completely out of touch with reality, accusing Ukraine of ‘genocide’ and talking of the need to ‘de-nazify’ the country. ‘Zelenskyy speech sparks soul-searching in Germany’, Laurenz Gehrke, Politico. About Vladimir Putin: ‘This is the dictator who was courted in Germany. And for Schröder, Steinmeier, Merkel was the one not to be provoked. The madman who wants a war so much that he is no longer even willing to answer the phone when the Ukrainian president calls’, Paul Ronzheimer, Bild. ‘How Zelenskyy’s team of TV writers helps his victory message hit home’, Luke Harding, The Guardian. net-proceeds go to the Ukrainian Red Cross lmverlag Berlin | Amsterdam

Book Regulating Hate Speech Created by Generative AI

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Regulating Hate Speech Created by Generative AI explores the new hybrid space of Human Machine Interaction (HMI) in which hate speech is represented and computed through algorithms and AI generative systems. The book is exploratory because there are still many problem-solving challenges to be faced. It is also innovative because it is not assuming that solutions lie only in technological advancements but on a broader scale. In this sense, large language models can and are being considered from a holistic view (i.e., from the different dimensions and layers of regulatory and legal governance). Highlights of the book include: Generative AI and social engines of hate An introduction to generative Artificial Intelligence application, trends, and ethics The mechanics and validation of generative AI outcomes An evaluation of Generative AI for hate speech detection Best practices and key considerations for AI regulation Using GenAI capabilities for early detection of threats in the digital environment. This book is a hard look at ways to regulate generative AI to reduce online hate and secure justice in a digital environment. Featuring research and offering practical guidelines, the book examines guidelines for regulating generative AI models, so they do not contribute to online hate disinformation and imagery.

Book Ukraine Crimea Russia

Download or read book Ukraine Crimea Russia written by Taras Kuzio and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2007-03-13 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Crimea was the only region of Ukraine in the 1990s where separatism arose and inter-ethnic conflict potentially could have taken place between the Ukrainian central government, ethnic Russians in the Crimea, and Crimean Tatars. Such a conflict would have inevitably drawn in Russia and Turkey. Russia had large numbers of troops in the Crimea within the former Soviet Black Sea Fleet. Ukraine also was a nuclear military power until 1996. This book analyses two inter-related issues. Firstly, it answers the question why Ukraine-Crimea-Russia traditionally have been a triangle of conflict over a region that Ukraine, Tatars and Russia have historically claimed. Secondly, it explains why inter-ethnic violence was averted in Ukraine despite Crimea possessing many of the ingredients that existed for Ukraine to follow in the footsteps of inter-ethnic strife in its former Soviet neighbourhood in Moldova (Trans-Dniestr), Azerbaijan (Nagorno Karabakh), Georgia (Abkhazia, South Ossetia), and Russia (Chechnya).

Book The Last Foundling

Download or read book The Last Foundling written by Tom Mackenzie and published by Pan Macmillan. This book was released on 2014-03-13 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deeply moving memoir from one of the last children to be taken in by the Foundling Hospital, London. When she fell pregnant in London in 1938, Jean knew that she couldn’t keep her baby. The unmarried daughter of an elder in the Church of Scotland, she would shame her family if she returned to the north in such a condition. Scared and alone in a city on the brink of war, she begged the Foundling Hospital to give her baby the start in life that she could not. The institution, which had been providing care for deserted infants since the eighteenth century, allowed Jean to nurse her son for nine weeks, leaving her heartbroken when the time came to let him go. But little Tom knew nothing of her love as he grew up in the Foundling Hospital – which, during years of the Second World War, was more like a prison than a children’s home. Locked in and subject to public canings and the sadistic whims of the older boys, there was no one to give him a hug, no one to wipe away his tears. A true story of desertion and neglect, this is also a moving account of survival from one of the very last foundlings. It stands as a testament to the love that ultimately led a family back together.

Download or read book Majoritarian State written by Angana P. Chatterji and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2019-08 with total page 551 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Majoritarian State traces the ascendance of Hindu nationalism in contemporary India. Led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP administration has established an ethno-religious and populist style of rule since 2014. Its agenda is also pursued beyond the formal branches of government, as the new dispensation portrays conventional social hierarchies as intrinsic to Indian culture while condoning communal and caste- and gender-based violence. The contributors explore how Hindutva ideology has permeated the state apparatus and formal institutions, and how Hindutva activists exert control over civil society via vigilante groups, cultural policing and violence. Groups and regions portrayed as 'enemies' of the Indian state are the losers in a new order promoting the interests of the urban middle class and business elites. As this majoritarian ideology pervades the media and public discourse, it also affects the judiciary, universities and cultural institutions, increasingly captured by Hindu nationalists. Dissent and difference silenced and debate increasingly sidelined as the press is muzzled or intimidated in the courts. Internationally, the BJP government has emphasised hard power and a fast- expanding security state. This collection of essays offers rich empirical analysis and documentation to investigate the causes and consequences of the illiberal turn taken by the world's largest democracy.

Book Political Communication and COVID 19

Download or read book Political Communication and COVID 19 written by Darren Lilleker and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2021-03-18 with total page 373 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This edited collection compares and analyses the most prominent political communicative responses to the outbreak and global spread of the COVID-19 strain of coronavirus within 27 nations across five continents and two supranational organisations: the EU and the WHO. The book encompasses the various governments’ communication of the crisis, the role played by opposition and the vibrancy of the information environment within each nation. The chapters analyse the communication drawing on theoretical perspectives drawn from the fields of crisis communication, political communication and political psychology. In doing so the book develops a framework to assess the extent to which state communication followed the key indicators of effective communication encapsulated in the principles of: being first; being right; being credible; expressing empathy; promoting action; and showing respect. The book also examines how communication circulated within the mass and social media environments and what impact differences in spokespersons, messages and the broader context has on the success of implementing measures likely to reduce the spread of the virus. Cumulatively, the authors develop a global analysis of the responses and how these are shaped by their specific contexts and by the flow of information, while offering lessons for future political crisis communication. This book will be of great interest to students and researchers of politics, communication and public relations, specifically on courses and modules relating to current affairs, crisis communication and strategic communication, as well as practitioners working in the field of health crisis communication. Download or read book Spotify Teardown written by Maria Eriksson and published by MIT Press. This book was released on 2019-02-19 with total page 287 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An innovative investigation of the inner workings of Spotify that traces the transformation of audio files into streamed experience. Spotify provides a streaming service that has been welcomed as disrupting the world of music. Yet such disruption always comes at a price. Spotify Teardown contests the tired claim that digital culture thrives on disruption. Borrowing the notion of “teardown” from reverse-engineering processes, in this book a team of five researchers have playfully disassembled Spotify's product and the way it is commonly understood. Spotify has been hailed as the solution to illicit downloading, but it began as a partly illicit enterprise that grew out of the Swedish file-sharing community. Spotify was originally praised as an innovative digital platform but increasingly resembles a media company in need of regulation, raising questions about the ways in which such cultural content as songs, books, and films are now typically made available online. Spotify Teardown combines interviews, participant observations, and other analyses of Spotify's “front end” with experimental, covert investigations of its “back end.” The authors engaged in a series of interventions, which include establishing a record label for research purposes, intercepting network traffic with packet sniffers, and web-scraping corporate materials. The authors' innovative digital methods earned them a stern letter from Spotify accusing them of violating its terms of use; the company later threatened their research funding. Thus, the book itself became an intervention into the ethics and legal frameworks of corporate behavior.
