This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 1390 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This catalog contains data on the magnitudes of more than 100,000 stars in the Galaxy. For each star listed, the catalog gives the position, identification, and ultraviolet, blue and visual magnitude from photoelectric measurements. The measurements from which these mean values were computed were collected from observations published between 1953 and 1992. The volume includes more than 1400 references.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts, which has appeared in semi-annual volumes since 1969, is de voted to the recording, summarizing and indexing of astronomical publications throughout the world. It is prepared under the auspices of the International Astronomical Union (according to a resolution adopted at the 14th General Assembly in 1970). Astronomy and Astrophysics Abstracts aims to present a comprehensive documentation of literature in all fields of astronomy and astrophysics. Every effort will be made to ensure that the average time interval between the date of receipt of the original literature and publication of the abstracts will not exceed eight months. This time interval is near to that achieved by monthly abstracting journals, com pared to which our system of accumulating abstracts for about six months offers the advantage of greater convenience for the user. Volume 6 contains literature published in 1971 and received before March 15, 1972; some older liter ature which was received late and which is not recorded in earlier volumes is also included.

Book NGC 6738 Not A Real Open Cluster

Download or read book NGC 6738 Not A Real Open Cluster written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 7 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A photometric, astrometric and spectroscopic investigation of the poorly studied open cluster NGC 6738 has been performed in order to ascertain its real nature. NGC 6738 is definitely not a physical stellar ensemble: photometry does not show a defined mean sequence, proper motions and radial velocities are randomly distributed, spectro-photometric parallaxes range between 10 and 1600 pc, and the apparent luminosity function is identical to that of the surrounding field. NGC 6738 therefore appears to be an apparent concentration of a few bright stars projected on patchy background absorption.

Book Overlapping Open Clusters NGC 1750 and NGC 1758 Behind the Taurus Dark Clouds II CCD Photometry in the Vilnius System

Download or read book Overlapping Open Clusters NGC 1750 and NGC 1758 Behind the Taurus Dark Clouds II CCD Photometry in the Vilnius System written by and published by . This book was released on 2003 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seven-color photometry in the Vilnius system has been obtained for 420 stars down to V=16 mag in the area containing the overlapping open clusters NGC 1750 and NGC 1758 in Taurus. Spectral and luminosity classes, color excesses, interstellar extinctions, and interstellar distances are given for 287 stars. The classification of stars is based on their reddening-free Q-parameters. Eighteen stars observed photoelectrically were used as standards. The extinction versus distance diagram exhibits the presence of one dust cloud at a distance of 175 pc, which almost coincides with the distance of other dust clouds in the Taurus complex. The clusters NGC 1750 and NGC 1758 are found to be at the same distance of approximately 760 pc and may penetrate each other. Their interstellar extinction A(V) is 1.06 mag, which corresponds to E(B-V) = 0.34 mag. (3 tables, 5 figures, 10 refs.).

Book Astronomy in India A Historical Perspective

Download or read book Astronomy in India A Historical Perspective written by Thanu Padmanabhan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-08-20 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: India has a strong and ancient tradition of astronomy, which seamlessly merges with the current activities in Astronomy and Astrophysics in the country. While the younger generation of astronomers and students are reasonably familiar with the current facilities and the astronomical research, they might not have an equally good knowledge of the rich history of Indian astronomy. This particular volume, brought out as a part of the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Indian National Science Academy, concentrates on selected aspects of historical development of Indian astronomy in the form of six invited chapters. Two of the chapters – by Balachandra Rao and M.S. Sriram – cover ancient astronomy and the development of calculus in the ancient Kerela text Yuktibhasa. The other four chapters by B.V. Sreekantan, Siraj Hasan, Govind Swarup and Jayant Narlikar deal with the contemporary history of Indian astronomy covering space astronomy, optical astronomy, radio astronomy and developments in relativistic astrophysics. These chapters, written by experts in the field, provide an in-depth study of the subject and make this volume quite unique.

Book Expounding the Mathematical Seed Vol 1 The Translation

Download or read book Expounding the Mathematical Seed Vol 1 The Translation written by Agathe Keller and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2006-06-22 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 5th century, the Indian mathematician Aryabhata wrote a small but famous work on astronomy in 118 verses called the Aryabhatiya. Its second chapter gives a summary of Hindu mathematics up to that point, and 200 years later, the Indian astronomer Bhaskara glossed that chapter. This volume is a literal English translation of Bhaskara’s commentary complete with an introduction.

Book The Outer Galaxy

Download or read book The Outer Galaxy written by Leo Blitz and published by Springer. This book was released on 1988 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book summarizes research into the fundamental properties of the outer Milky Way (including its mass, scale and rotation properties) and covers topics such as spiral structure, the interstellar medium, star formation, satellites of the Milky Way and the outer parts of some nearby galaxies. It contains new work on the outer rotation curve of the Milky Way, first results of a new low frequency galactic disk survey, new results on the scale of the Galaxy (the distance of the Sun from the center and the relation of the disk of the Milky Way to the halo). This is the first volume specifically dedicated to outer galaxy research. Professional astronomers and astrophysicists as well as graduate students will welcome this book as a guide in understanding the outer parts of the Milky Way and also other galaxies.
