Book The Enneagram Relationships and Intimacy

Download or read book The Enneagram Relationships and Intimacy written by Suzanne Dion and published by . This book was released on 2018-12-20 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are lots of books out there written about love; some great ones discuss the importance of early secure attachment, and plenty too have been written about relationships and how to make them better. This book is a bit different. Dr. David Daniels, Professor Emeritus Stanford Medical School, brings his personal passion for human development to over 40 years of study as a private-practice psychiatrist (working primarily with couples), a 61-year marriage, and a deep and comprehensive understanding of human temperament and personality proclivities, to the table. Thanks to having studied something called, "the Enneagram," David says, "Of all of the treatment modalities I worked with and tried out across my therapeutic career, nothing came close to helping couples heal their hearts and relax their defenses as much as I witnessed happening when using a comprehensive application of the Enneagram system." Understanding ourselves as well as others -- with acceptance, discernment, curiosity, and wonderment -- in the way the Enneagram precipitates, provides the greatest foundation from which to build healthier, more receptive and more fulfilling relationships. It is our fundamental relationships that sustain our lives, fuel our happiness, and support our greater development and potential. Bringing this book to fruition was the passionate focus of much of David's time, exploration, and thought the last many years of his life. Within in it holds David's endearing understanding of human relationships and his devotion to contributing to a more loving world.

Book The Power of Personality Types in Love and Relationships

Download or read book The Power of Personality Types in Love and Relationships written by Bill Farr and published by . This book was released on 2013-04-28 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People often make the mistake of thinking opposites attract. Opposites never attract, that would be like a criminal hooking up with a nun. However, opposing personality types often attract; this is when one partner says "black" the other says "white." This book shows what is required to keep these opposing forces also complementary. The Chinese philosophy of the Yin Yang states that two opposing yet complementary forces lie at the base of how all things work. This philosophy shows how people can flow in natural harmony and what is required during conflict. We have all delightfully experienced a waiter who obviously takes joy in serving his clients or a boss who naturally leads while caring for his employees, versus those not equipped for the responsibility they work in. Character dynamics exist similar to these in relationships and understanding them provides insight as to why certain couples naturally get along while others operate with a lack of intimacy and connection. By answering a questionnaire, you can identify your type and the formula for how to identify your logical match. Learn how to know a partner who is complementary to your character and how to remain connected without conflict to people who are not. Understanding these types enables you to discover what went wrong in past relationships, a way to find harmony in current strained relationships, and a formula for finding more compatible partners moving forward. Jalaluddin Rumi said, "Not to seek for love, but to seek all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it." A basic understanding of these types allows you to overcome self-imposed barriers preventing the flow of abundance in your life and relationships. Fears, insecurities, shame, defense mechanisms, and past relationships all play a part in how a person seeks to find their contentment or avoids perceived discomfort or fear. Awareness of these aspects shows when you sabotage the harmony in your life or relationship and how to overcome that. This awareness also allows you to recognize a partner that has the ability to accept your nature while fulfilling theirs. www.TheArtofUnity.com Author Bio Bill Farr is a wellness coach, an instructor in various forms of martial arts and meditation, a former kickboxing champion and professional Argentine Tango dancer. The focus is on developing compassion, understanding and respect for each other based on important differences existing in both intimate and professional relationships.

Book Time Typology and Point Traditions in North Carolina Archaeology

Download or read book Time Typology and Point Traditions in North Carolina Archaeology written by I. Randolph Daniel and published by University Alabama Press. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A reconsideration of the seminal projectile point typology In the 1964 landmark publication The Formative Cultures of the Carolina Piedmont, Joffre Coe established a projectile point typology and chronology that, for the first time, allowed archaeologists to identify the relative age of a site or site deposit based on the point types recovered there. Consistent with the cultural-historical paradigm of the day, the “Coe axiom” stipulated that only one point type was produced at one moment in time in a particular location. Moreover, Coe identified periods of “cultural continuity” and “discontinuity” in the chronology based on perceived similarities and differences in point styles through time. In Time, Typology, and Point Traditions in North Carolina Archaeology: Formative Cultures Reconsidered, I. Randolph Daniel Jr. reevaluates the Coe typology and sequence, analyzing their strengths and weaknesses. Daniel reviews the history of the projectile point type concept in the Southeast and revisits both Coe’s axiom and his notions regarding cultural continuity and change based on point types. In addition, Daniel updates Coe’s typology by clarifying or revising existing types and including types unrecognized in Coe’s monograph. Daniel also adopts a practice-centered approach to interpreting types and organizes them into several technological traditions that trace ancestral- descendent communities of practice that relate to our current understanding of North Carolina prehistory. Appealing to professional and avocational archaeologists, Daniel provides ample illustrations of points in the book as well as color versions on a dedicated website. Daniel dedicates a final chapter to a discussion of the ethical issues related to professional archaeologists using private artifact collections. He calls for greater collaboration between professional and avocational communities, noting the scientific value of some private collections.

Book Typology of Pluractional Constructions in the Languages of the World

Download or read book Typology of Pluractional Constructions in the Languages of the World written by Simone Mattiola and published by John Benjamins Publishing Company. This book was released on 2019-04-24 with total page 263 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this book is to give the first large-scale typological investigation of pluractionality in the languages of the world. Pluractionality is defined as the morphological modification of the verb to express a plurality of situations that can additionally involve a plurality of participants and/or spaces. Based on a 246-language sample, the main characteristics of pluractionality are described and discussed throughout the book. Firstly, a description of the functions that pluractional markers cross-linguistically express is presented and the relationships occurring among them are explained through the semantic map model. Then, the marking strategies that languages display to express such functions are illustrated and some issues concerning the formal identification are briefly discussed as well. The typological generalizations are corroborated showing how pluractional markers work in three specific languages (Akawaio, Beja, Maa). In conclusion, the theoretical conceptualization of pluractionality is discussed referring to the Radical Construction Grammar approach.

Book excerpt: Stereotypically, science and emotion are diametric opposites: one is cold and unfeeling, the other soft and nebulous; one is based on proven facts while the other is based on inexplicable feelings and “never the twain shall meet,” until now. John Gottman delves into the unquantifiable realm of love, armed with science and logic, and emerges with the knowledge that relationships can be not only understood, but also predicted as well. Based on research done at his Love Lab and other laboratories, Gottman has discovered that the future of love relationships can be predicted with a startling 91% success rate. These predictions can help couples to prevent disasters in their relationships, recognize the signs of a promising relationship, and perhaps more importantly, recognize the signs of a doomed one. Principia Amoris also introduces Love Equations, a mathematical modeling of relationships that helps understand predictions. Love Equations are powerful tools that can prevent relationship distress and heal ailing relationships. Readers learn about the various research and studies that were done to discover the science behind love, and are treated to a history of the people, ideas, and events that shaped our current understanding. They also learn about: • The “Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse” • 45 natural principles of love • 5 couple types • 5 recipes for good relationships • And much more! Just as science helped us to understand the physical world, it is helping us to understand the emotional world as well. Using the insights in this book, mental health professionals can meaningfully help their distressed clients, as well as better understand why a relationship is failing or succeeding. Appropriate for the curious non-mental health professional as well, Principia Amoris is a must-have on any bookshelf!

Book Early Modern Histories of Time

Download or read book Early Modern Histories of Time written by Kristen Poole and published by University of Pennsylvania Press. This book was released on 2019-10-11 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Early Modern Histories of Time examines how a range of chronological modes intrinsic to the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries shaped the thought-worlds of those living during this time and explores how these temporally indigenous models can productively influence our own working concepts of historical period. This innovative approach thus moves beyond debates about where we should divide linear time (and what to call the ensuing segments) to reconsider the very concept of "period." Bringing together an eminent cast of literary scholars and historians, the volume develops productive historical models by drawing on the very texts and cultural contexts that are their objects of study. What happens to the idea of "period" when English literature is properly placed within the dynamic currents of pan-European literary phenomena? How might we think of historical period through the palimpsested nature of buildings, through the religious concept of the secular, through the demographic model of the life cycle, even through the repetitive labor of laundering? From theology to material culture to the temporal constructions of Shakespeare, and from the politics of space to the poetics of typology, the essays in this volume take up diverse, complex models of sixteenth- and seventeenth-century temporality and contemplate their current relevance for our own ideas of history. The volume thus embraces the ambiguity inherent in the word "contemporary," moving between our subjects' sense of self-emplacement and the historiographical need to address the questions and concerns that affect us today. Book Attached

Download or read book Attached written by Amir Levine and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2010-12-30 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Over a decade after its publication, one book on dating has people firmly in its grip.” —The New York Times We already rely on science to tell us what to eat, when to exercise, and how long to sleep. Why not use science to help us improve our relationships? In this revolutionary book, psychiatrist and neuroscientist Dr. Amir Levine and Rachel Heller scientifically explain why some people seem to navigate relationships effortlessly, while others struggle. Discover how an understanding of adult attachment—the most advanced relationship science in existence today—can help us find and sustain love. Pioneered by psychologist John Bowlby in the 1950s, the field of attachment posits that each of us behaves in relationships in one of three distinct ways: • Anxious people are often preoccupied with their relationships and tend to worry about their partner's ability to love them back. • Avoidant people equate intimacy with a loss of independence and constantly try to minimize closeness. • Secure people feel comfortable with intimacy and are usually warm and loving. Attached guides readers in determining what attachment style they and their mate (or potential mate) follow, offering a road map for building stronger, more fulfilling connections with the people they love.
