Book Two Essays on Marketplace Interaction

Download or read book Two Essays on Marketplace Interaction written by Sumitra Auschaitrakul and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This dissertation comprises of two essays on marketplace interaction. The first essay focuses on consumers' interaction with firms in the context of market research surveys. Consumers sometimes anticipate interacting with firm representatives during follow-up interviews after completing market research surveys. Based on an anticipated cognitive effort mechanism, this essay shows in four studies that anticipated firm interaction can bias consumer responses to market research surveys, such that anticipated firm interaction increases the gap between private and publicly expressed attitudes when the valence of private attitude is negative but not when it is positive. This essay contributes to the literature on consumer interactions in the marketplace by first identifying a new joint effect of anticipated firm interaction and valence of private attitude on attitude gap, and second by identifying a new underlying mechanism based on anticipated cognitive effort. The second essay focuses on consumers' interaction with sellers in peer-to-peer marketplaces. Based on a fit-fluency mechanism, this essay examines the joint influence of seller depth of disclosure and consumer self-construal on seller and product evaluations. Results from four studies indicate that depth of disclosure has a positive effect on seller and product evaluations when self-construal is interdependent, and this positive effect is eliminated when self-construal is independent. This essay contributes to the literature on depth of disclosure by first identifying a new joint effect of depth of disclosure and self-construal on seller and product evaluations, and second by identifying a new underlying mechanism based on fit-fluency." --

Book Interaction and Market Structure

Download or read book Interaction and Market Structure written by Domenico Delli Gatti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 302 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a collection of essays which examine how the properties of aggregate variables are influenced by the actions and interactions of heterogenous individuals in different economic contexts. The common denominator of the essays is a critique of the representative agent hypothesis. If this hypothesis were correct, the behaviour of the aggregate variable would simply be the reproduction of individual optimising behaviour. In the methodology of the hard sciences, one of the achievements of the quantum revolution has been the rebuttal of the notion that aggregate behaviour can be explained on the basis of the behaviour of a single unit: the elementary particle does not even exist as a single entity but as a network, a system of interacting units. In this book, new tracks in economics which parallel the developments in physics mentioned above are explored. The essays, in fact are contributions to the analysis of the economy as a complex evolving system of interacting agents.

Book Game Theory and Fisheries

Download or read book Game Theory and Fisheries written by Ussif Rashid Sumaila and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-08-22 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Today, there is a growing sense of urgency among fisheries scientists regarding the management of fish stocks, particularly among those who predict the imminent collapse of the fishing industry due to stock depletion. This book takes a game theoretic approach to discussing potential solutions to the problem of fish stock depletion. Acknowledging the classification of fish stocks as destructible renewable resources, these essays are concerned with the question of how much of the stock should be consumed today and how much should be left in place for the future. The book targets both economists and students of economics who are familiar with the tools of their trade but not necessarily familiar with game theory in the context of fisheries management. Importantly, the goal is not to give a summary evaluation of the current views of the ‘appropriate’ response to immediate policy questions, but rather to describe the ways in which the problems at hand can be productively formulated and approached using game theory and couched on real world fisheries. Game Theory and Fisheries consists of twelve previously published but updated articles in fisheries management, a number of which address a gap in the fisheries literature by modelling and analysing the exploitation of fishery resources in a two-agent fishery, in both cooperative and non-cooperative environments. The author’s work ultimately illustrates that the analysis of strategic interaction between those with access to shared fishery resources will be incomplete without the use of game theory.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first section of the book contains an overview of the charitable sector in Canada, a sociological review of altruism in different societies, a discussion of altruism in various philosophical and religious traditions, an economic analysis of "rational voluntarism," and an assessment of the relationship between the charitable sector and the welfare state. The second section contains five papers on the legal definition of charity, both general (the jurisprudence of the Federal Court of Appeal and a proposal for rethinking the concept of "public benefit"), and particular (the political purposes doctrine, religion as charity, and a commentary on the recent major Supreme Court decision on the meaning of charity). The third section deals with the tax status of charities: two papers evaluate the current tax credit system and one deals with the administration of charities by the Canada Customs and Revenue Agency. The final section contains essays on charities and commercial enterprise, on the regulation of fund-raising, and on needed reforms in non-profit corporation law. At a time when the federal government is about to embark on a wide range of policy initiatives to assist and regulate the non-profit sector, these essays are necessary reading for anyone concerned with the future of the charitable sector in Canada. Book Disequilibrium Growth and Labor Market Dynamics

Download or read book Disequilibrium Growth and Labor Market Dynamics written by Carl Chiarella and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 487 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book on disequilibrium, growth and labor market dynamics we take predominantly a macroeconomic perspective. We present a working model that can easily be varied in different directions in order to subsume innovations in the literature on macroeconomics, old and new, and to contribute to important currently discussed macroeconomic issues. Our working model is set up in a way that there is a close relationship between our presented dynamic models and modern macro econometric models with disequilibrium both in the labor and the goods markets. One of our objectives is, therefore, to narrow the gap between theoretical and applied structural macrodynamic model building. We hope that the book will be a useful reference for all researchers, academic teachers and practitioners of macroeconomic and macro econometric model building who are interested in economic dynamics, independently of whether they use equilibrium or disequilibrium methods in their own research. We base this hope on the fact that our approach contains a number of unique features. The emphasis on the identification and analysis of the basic feedback mechanisms at work in modern macro economies. A detailed study of the partial as well as integrated dynamic interaction between these feedback mechanisms that consti tute the interdependence of markets and sectors of the modern macro economy. The rela tionship between the macroeconomic framework of our working model and the Walrasian, Non-Walrasian and New-Keynesian reformulations of macroeconomics.
