Book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Conical Mixed flow Compressors

Download or read book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Conical Mixed flow Compressors written by John D. Stanitz and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A general method of analysis is developed for the two-dimensional, steady, compressible flow through mixed-flow compressors and turbines in which the center line of the passage generates a right circular cone about the axis of the machine. The two-dimensional, radial-flow compressor is a special case in which the cone angle is equal to 180 degrees. The variables taken into account are: (1) impeller tip Mach number, (2) flow rate, (3) blade shape, (4) passage height, (5) number of blades, and (6) cone angle. Relaxation methods are used to solve the resulting nonlinear differential equation for the stream function.

Book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Centrifugal Compressors with Straight Blades

Download or read book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Centrifugal Compressors with Straight Blades written by John D. Stanitz and published by . This book was released on 1949 with total page 712 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Six numerical examples are presented for steady, two-dimensional, compressible, nonviscous flow in centrifugal compressors with straight blades. A seventh example is presented for incompressible flow. The solutions also applye to radial-flow turbines with rotation and flow direction reversed. The effects of variations in following parameters were investigated: (1) flow rate, (2) impeller-tip speed, (3) variation of passage height with radius, and (4) number of blades. The numerical results are presented in plots of the streamlines, constant Mach number lines, and constant pressure-ratio lines. Correlation equations are developed whereby the flow conditions in any impeller with straight blades can be determined for all operating conditions.

Book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Centrifugal Compressors with Logarithmic spiral Blades

Download or read book Two dimensional Compressible Flow in Centrifugal Compressors with Logarithmic spiral Blades written by Gaylord O. Ellis and published by . This book was released on 1951 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two numerical examples are presented for two-dimensional, compressible, nonviscous flow in centrifugal compressors with backward-curved, logarithmic-spiral blades. The two examples are for different blade angles and are compared with a third example for straight, radial blades. The numerical results are presented in tables of the stream-function distribution and in plots of the streamlines, constant Mach number lines, and constant-pressure-ratio lines. In addition, a simplified analysis for logarithmic-spiral blades is presented that can be used to determine flow conditions within the impeller except near the imperller tip and impeller inlet.

Book Investigation of the Variation of Maximum Lift for a Pitching Airplane Model and Comparison with Flight Results

Download or read book Investigation of the Variation of Maximum Lift for a Pitching Airplane Model and Comparison with Flight Results written by Paul W. Harper and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 704 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Apparatus was developed which utilized a pitching airplane model to determine maximum wing loads as a function of the rate of change of angle of attack. In order to evaluate the pitching-model technique, the maximum lift coefficient was determined as a function of the rate of change of angle of attack over a Mach number range from approximately 0.2 to 0.6 in wind-tunnel tests of a 1/20-scale model of a conventional single-engine fighter airplane and was conpared with existing flight data of this airplane. The wind-tunnel and flight results were found to be in good agreement.

Book Gas Turbine Engineering Handbook

Download or read book Gas Turbine Engineering Handbook written by Meherwan P. Boyce and published by Gulf Professional Publishing. This book was released on 2002 with total page 822 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The gas turbine is a power plant which produces a great amount of energy for its size and weight. This is a comprehensive treatment of gas turbines. The author discusses the design, fabrication, installation, operation and maintenance of gas turbines. He presents the necessary data, along with suggestions to assist engineers in obtaining optimum performance for any gas turbine, under all conditions. The intent of the work is to serve as a reference text after it has accomplished its primary objective of introducing the reader to the broad subject of gas turbines.

Book The Spanwise Distribution of Lift for Minimum Induced Drag of Wings Having a Given Lift and a Given Bending Moment

Download or read book The Spanwise Distribution of Lift for Minimum Induced Drag of Wings Having a Given Lift and a Given Bending Moment written by Robert T. Jones and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 708 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of the minimum induced drag of wings having a given lift and a given span is extended to include cases in which the bending moment to be supported by the wing is also given. Expressions for the spanwise load distribution and the minimum drag in terms of the lateral position of the load centroid are given. The results show a 15-percent reduction of the induced drag with a 15-percent increase in span over that for an elliptic loading having the same total lift and bending moment.
