Book Twin My Brothers and Me

Download or read book Twin My Brothers and Me written by Carl Boyd and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2018-10-17 with total page 475 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is a true story of identical twin boys who are now deceased. This story takes place solely in the city of St. Louis, Missouri. It is a story about brothers who grew up out of the tense and racially segregated times of the fifties through the seventies. They were born in a time when great changes were taking place. It was the year 1945, and the closing of that great and awful war. For some, it was a time of great joy. "Victory!" the headlines read, but for whom? It was a time of great abundance and plenty for some, but for others, there was a severe scarcity of even the basics such as jobs, food, clothing, housing, and healthcare. It was a time of "do or die." It was a time of "have and have-nots" and "by any means necessary." These were the times in which the twins came through. It is a story of their audacious boldness to survive in a time of scarcity. These are my recollections and reminiscence of the history of my brothers Leo and Leon Wright. It is also the reminiscing of their mother Olivia Boyd, their brother Ezell Wright, a host of relatives, and those few who considered them friends. All dates and instances are true to the best of our knowledge and of the people herein""all who had the pleasure or the horror of knowing "Twin."

Book excerpt: The development of how twins relate to each other and their single partners is explored through life stories and clinical examples in this telling study of twin interconnections. While the quality of a nurturing family life is crucial, Dr. Klein has found there are often issues with separation anxiety, loneliness, competition with each other, and finding friendships outside of twinship. When twin lives are entwined because of inadequate parenting and estrangement, twin loss is possible and traumatic, creating a crippling fear of expansiveness—an inability to be yourself. Therapists and twins seeking an understanding of twin relationships will find this clinically compelling book a valuable resource.

Book You Know You Lit

Download or read book You Know You Lit written by The Dobre Brothers and published by Vertel Publishing. This book was released on 2022-06-07 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the four creators of the immensely popular Dobre Brothers YouTube channel, You Know You Lit is a funny, vibrant, in-your-face deep dive into their crazy minds. Cyrus, Darius, Lucas, and Marcus are the children of an Olympic gymnast, so it's no surprise they're incredibly gifted athletes. One day, the twins Lucas and Marcus got the idea to start filming backflips and other stunts for the now defunct Vine platform. They quickly blew up, garnering millions of fans and becoming recognized whenever they went out. They also noticed that whenever their older brothers made cameos in their videos, fans cheered--so they made it a family affair and the rest is history! Now with over 95 million followers across all their different YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and other social media accounts, the Dobre Brothers command an impressive community that they call the Dobre Army. So what's next after conquering the Internet? Conquering publishing, naturally! In this book, the brothers take their fans behind the scenes to give them a glimpse of their unique, wild lives: they detail their journey to success, of course, and they also give advice drawn from the life lessons they've learned along the way, advice on how to become a social media star too, and plenty of never before known facts. They'll get into their favorite pranks (and some of the crazier ones, like when the twins ruined Dari's car with slime!), what it's like to all live together at Dobre HQ, all about the famous Goat in their videos, what their parents and girlfriends have to say about it all, and their victories as well as their failures. They've also used their platform admirably to bring important messages to their young audience, such as with their massively viral music video "Stop That." The brothers are always giving back and this book is one more opportunity to do that! You Know You Lit (their catchphrase) is a high energy, exciting, authentic peek into the lives of these famous creators.

In this urgent chronicle of contemporary immigration, journalist Lauren Markham follows the Flores twins as they make their way across the Rio Grande and the Texas desert, into the hands of immigration authorities, and from there to their estranged older brother in Oakland, CA. Download or read book Accidental Brothers written by Nancy L. Segal and published by Macmillan + ORM. This book was released on 2018-04-17 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "A unique window into human behavior and development." —Steven Pinker The riveting story of two sets of identical twins separated at birth and improbably reunited as adults, a dream case for exploring nature and nurture. Accidental Brothers tells the unique story of two sets of identical Colombian twin brothers who discovered at age 25 that they were mistakenly raised as fraternal twins—when they were not even biological brothers. Due to an oversight that presumably occurred in the hospital nursery, one twin in each pair was switched with a twin in the other pair. The result was two sets of unrelated “fraternal” twins—Jorge and Carlos, who were raised in the lively city of Bogotá; and William and Wilber, who were raised in the remote rural village of La Paz, 150 miles away. Their parents and siblings were aware of the enormous physical and behavioral differences between the members of each set, but never doubted that the two belonged in their biological families. Everyone’s life unraveled when one of the twins—William—was mistaken by a young woman for his real identical twin, Jorge. Her “discovery” led to the truth—that the alleged twins were not twins at all, but rather unrelated individuals who ended up with the wrong families. Blending great science and human interest, Accidental Brothers by Nancy L. Segal and Yesika S. Montoya will inform and entertain anyone interested in how twin studies illuminate the origins of human behavior, as well as mother-infant identification and the chance events that can have profound consequences on our lives.

Book Becoming Nicole

Download or read book Becoming Nicole written by Amy Ellis Nutt and published by Random House. This book was released on 2015-10-20 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The inspiring true story of transgender actor and activist Nicole Maines, whose identical twin brother, Jonas, and ordinary American family join her on an extraordinary journey to understand, nurture, and celebrate the uniqueness in us all. Nicole appears as TV’s first transgender superhero on CW’s Supergirl When Wayne and Kelly Maines adopted identical twin boys, they thought their lives were complete. But by the time Jonas and Wyatt were toddlers, confusion over Wyatt’s insistence that he was female began to tear the family apart. In the years that followed, the Maineses came to question their long-held views on gender and identity, to accept Wyatt’s transition to Nicole, and to undergo a wrenching transformation of their own, the effects of which would reverberate through their entire community. Pulitzer Prize–winning journalist Amy Ellis Nutt spent almost four years reporting this story and tells it with unflinching honesty, intimacy, and empathy. In her hands, Becoming Nicole is more than an account of a courageous girl and her extraordinary family. It’s a powerful portrait of a slowly but surely changing nation, and one that will inspire all of us to see the world with a little more humanity and understanding. Named One of the Ten Best Books of the Year by People • One of the Best Books of the Year by The New York Times Book Review and Men’s Journal • A Stonewall Honor Book in Nonfiction • Finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for Transgender Nonfiction “Fascinating and enlightening.”—Cheryl Strayed “If you aren’t moved by Becoming Nicole, I’d suggest there’s a lump of dark matter where your heart should be.”—The New York Times “Exceptional . . . ‘Stories move the walls that need to be moved,’ Nicole told her father last year. In telling Nicole’s story and those of her brother and parents luminously, and with great compassion and intelligence, that is exactly what Amy Ellis Nutt has done here.”—The Washington Post “A profoundly moving true story about one remarkable family’s evolution.”—People “Becoming Nicole is a miracle. It’s the story of a family struggling with—and embracing—a transgender child. But more than that, it’s about accepting one another, and ourselves, in all our messy, contradictory glory.”—Jennifer Finney Boylan, former co-chair of GLAAD and author of She’s Not There: A Life in Two Genders
