Book From Algorithms to Hardware Architectures

Download or read book From Algorithms to Hardware Architectures written by Karim Abbas and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-05 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book uses digital radios as a challenging design example, generalized to bridge a typical gap between designers who work on algorithms and those who work to implement those algorithms on silicon. The author shows how such a complex system can be moved from high-level characterization to a form that is ready for hardware implementation. Along the way, readers learn a lot about how algorithm designers can benefit from knowing the hardware they target and how hardware designers can benefit from a familiarity with the algorithm. The book shows how a high-level description of an algorithm can be migrated to a fixed-point block diagram with a well-defined cycle accurate architecture and a fully documented controller. This can significantly reduce the length of the hardware design cycle and can improve its outcomes. Ultimately, the book presents an explicit design flow that bridges the gap between algorithm design and hardware design. Provides a guide to baseband radio design for Wi-Fi and cellular systems, from an implementation-focused, perspective; Explains how arithmetic is moved to hardware and what the cost of each operation is in terms of delay, area and power; Enables strategic architectural decisions based on the algorithm, available processing units and design requirements.

Book excerpt: There are only three ways to live an average life; be in a permanent state of denial, relentlessly pursue an imaginary life with tunnel vision or rise up above it all and look down on the world with pity, compassion and most important of all a truly British sense of humor. Walter Wobblebottom was not a special person and as for so many people, recalling his life is like looking through a thousand shards of crystal, full of frantic distortions and exaggerations. Over time we pull away from the worldly illusions that surround us and we are able to see that those shards of crystal are actually the facets of a complete beautifully cut diamond that is our life. We keep the best.

Book DataFlow Supercomputing Essentials

Download or read book DataFlow Supercomputing Essentials written by Veljko Milutinovic and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-11 with total page 150 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This illuminating text/reference reviews the fundamentals of programming for effective DataFlow computing. The DataFlow paradigm enables considerable increases in speed and reductions in power consumption for supercomputing processes, yet the programming model requires a distinctly different approach. The algorithms and examples showcased in this book will help the reader to develop their understanding of the advantages and unique features of this methodology. This work serves as a companion title to DataFlow Supercomputing Essentials: Research, Development and Education, which analyzes the latest research in this area, and the training resources available. Topics and features: presents an implementation of Neural Networks using the DataFlow paradigm, as an alternative to the traditional ControlFlow approach; discusses a solution to the three-dimensional Poisson equation, using the Fourier method and DataFlow technology; examines how the performance of the Binary Search algorithm can be improved through implementation on a DataFlow architecture; reviews the different way of thinking required to best configure the DataFlow engines for the processing of data in space flowing through the devices; highlights how the DataFlow approach can efficiently support applications in big data analytics, deep learning, and the Internet of Things. This indispensable volume will benefit all researchers interested in supercomputing in general, and DataFlow computing in particular. Advanced undergraduate and graduate students involved in courses on Data Mining, Microprocessor Systems, and VLSI Systems, will also find the book to be an invaluable resource.

Book Engineering Embedded Systems

Download or read book Engineering Embedded Systems written by Peter Hintenaus and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is a textbook for graduate and final-year-undergraduate computer-science and electrical-engineering students interested in the hardware and software aspects of embedded and cyberphysical systems design. It is comprehensive and self-contained, covering everything from the basics to case-study implementation. Emphasis is placed on the physical nature of the problem domain and of the devices used. The reader is assumed to be familiar on a theoretical level with mathematical tools like ordinary differential equation and Fourier transforms. In this book these tools will be put to practical use. Engineering Embedded Systems begins by addressing basic material on signals and systems, before introducing to electronics. Treatment of digital electronics accentuating synchronous circuits and including high-speed effects proceeds to micro-controllers, digital signal processors and programmable logic. Peripheral units and decentralized networks are given due weight. The properties of analog circuits and devices like filters and data converters are covered to the extent desirable by a systems architect. The handling of individual elements concludes with power supplies including regulators and converters. The final section of the text is composed of four case studies: • electric-drive control, permanent magnet synchronous motors in particular; • lock-in amplification with measurement circuits for weight and torque, and moisture; • design of a simple continuous wave radar that can be operated to measure speed and distance; and • design of a Fourier transform infrared spectrometer for process applications. End-of-chapter exercises will assist the student to assimilate the tutorial material and these are supplemented by a downloadable solutions manual for instructors. The “pen-and-paper” problems are further augmented with laboratory activities. In addition to its student market, Engineering Embedded Systems will assist industrial practitioners working in systems architecture and the design of electronic measurement systems to keep up to date with developments in embedded systems through self study.
