The extracts numbered V, VI, and VII, have been specially chosen as being all of them extant in Morris's Specimens of English, Part I. I shall therefore assume that the sounds of the symbols and the meanings of the words are understood or can be made out, and I confine the following remarks solely to the consideration of the forms of the letters and the modes of writing adopted by the scribes.
