Book Twas the Night Before Christmas 21st Century Edition

This book was released on 2010-09-14 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Kluger and Slavin's rendition, Christmas is no longer a time of sparkling snow globes and neighborly good will, but rather a celebration of profits, bonuses, and cutthroat competition--complete with disgruntled elves, outsourced Santas, union conflicts, Twittered conspiracies, randy reindeer, media hysteria, factory relocations, toxic merchandise, and a giant leveraged buyout that rocks the world from pole to pole. Packing their verse with hilariously spun rhymes ("The workers grew grim, as they churlishly chored / while Santa grew haplessly, craplessly bored") and even funnier illustrations (picture Santa jumping on Oprah's couch and Mrs. Claus in a racy Maxim cover photo), Kluger and Slavin spike the holiday eggnog with smart and saucy sass--not to mention loads of laughs. 'Twas the Night Before Christmas 21st Century Edition, makes the perfect stocking stuffer or lighthearted gift.

Book Who Wrote The Night Before Christmas

Download or read book Who Wrote The Night Before Christmas written by MacDonald P. Jackson and published by McFarland. This book was released on 2016-04-27 with total page 203 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Published anonymously in 1823, "The Night Before Christmas" has traditionally been attributed to Clement Clarke Moore (1779-1863), who included it in his Poems (1844). But descendants of Henry Livingston (1748-1828) claim that he read it to his children as his own creation long before Moore is alleged to have composed it. This book evaluates the opposing arguments and for the first time uses the author-attribution techniques of modern computational stylistics to settle the long-standing dispute. Both writers left substantial bodies of verse, which have been computer analyzed for distinguishing characteristics. Employing a range of tests and introducing a new one--statistical analysis of phonemes--this study identifies the true author and makes a significant contribution to the growing field of attribution studies.

Book Dog on the Roof

    Book Details:
  • Author : Bruce Kluger
  • Publisher : Simon and Schuster
  • Release : 2012-06-19
  • ISBN : 1451698895
  • Pages : 71 pages

Download or read book Dog on the Roof written by Bruce Kluger and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2012-06-19 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They were the typical American family on a typical American road trip—Dad behind the wheel, Mom in the passenger seat, their five adorable kids piled in the back. And, of course, their beloved dog strapped to the roof. Wait . . . what? Now for the first time, here is the completely true—and only mildly embellished— shaggy-dog story of Seamus Romney, the famously fetching Irish setter whose master, future presidential candidate Mitt Romney, plopped him atop the family station wagon for that infamous 1983 car trip. From the majesty of Mount Rushmore to the fabulousness of San Francisco, from the sacred temple of Salt Lake City to the hallowed halls of Washington, D.C., here at last is Seamus’s rooftop account of that headline-grabbing journey . . . unleashed. Doggedly chronicled by satirists Bruce Kluger and David Slavin (NPR’s All Things Considered), and cleverly illustrated by Colleen Clapp (The Chris Matthews Show, NBC News), this American tale is more than just the story of a dog on a hot tin roof. It is the inside (well . . . overhead) look at the Man Who Would Be President and the wild ride that’s sweeping—and bewildering—the nation.

Download or read book Ogden O Henry Op Ed written by Will Trevier and published by Sirventes Press. This book was released on 2020-08-28 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Light Verse with Attitude

Ogden O. Henry Op. Ed. is a collection of clever, concise, poetic commentary on Donald Trump and other political and public figures, and reflections, by turns humorous and moving, on current social conditions and shared life experience. Included is an array of poetic forms that summons surprise, provokes laughter, and kindles insight, inspired by the ingenious humor, imaginative wordplay, and unexpected endings of legendary writers Ogden Nash and O. Henry.

Short verses, often with a final punch, are featured in this volume, and comments on politics and social justice are spliced with observations on the customary and familiar; neither category separated by chapter or section, as an acknowledgment that the influences in our lives are intrinsically interwoven. Beyond their wider purpose, the poems are serious and comical, succinct and captivating. Where representing an Op. Ed. point of view, they are progressive in tone and liberal in voice; offering ideas in sound-byte format and inviting participation in syncopated quick-steps, appealing in cadence, endearing in carriage.

Blink and the levity's gone viral.
