Book excerpt: Psychoanalysis and the Politics of Family aims to raise a sophisticated and highly accessible debate around the family, self-making and the political and cultural implications of liberation. The text proposes a new way to read the Lacanian theory of Oedipus and through this reading resituate a series of important political and theoretical debates that have concerned intellectual life over the last forty years. It is written with an accessible style so that both specialists in Lacanian and Marxist theory and a broader cross-section of readers interested in understanding the implications of debates across populist and Marxist perspectives that have occupied the global left since the 2008 economic crash. The text aims to resituate the way theories of emancipation and liberation are theorized from a distinctive psychoanalytic and Lacanian point of view. In resituating the infamous “Oedipus complex” in a new light, the text re-opens a series of debates with important theoretical interlocutors, including the influential American historian and psychoanalytic thinker Christopher Lasch, whose thought has witnessed a significant renaissance of interest today, to the staunch critic of Freud and Lacan, René Girard, to Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari and their widely read Anti-Oedipus series that disputes the Freudian and Lacanian notions of Oedipus.

Book The Legend of Bad Bill Tutt

Download or read book The Legend of Bad Bill Tutt written by Lambert Tutt and published by Badgley Publishing Company. This book was released on 2015-11-29 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The story of “Bad” Bill Tutt is based on actual events in the life of a young doctor, my Grandfather, from the mountains of Eastern Kentucky during the early 1900’s. Some say he was a truly caring physician who saved many lives in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. Others claim he was a dashing rogue, scoundrel, womanizer, and moonshiner, indulged by his wealthy County Judge father and bent on his pursuit of women, gambling, and drink. What is for certain is that the moniker of “Bad Bill” was bestowed after he shot his cousin, “Bad” Bowen Rose. And it is from here his legend grows. A female neighbor that Bill was accused of seducing gunned down his wife, mother of their young children. His brother, Blackhawk, was murdered leading Bad Bill to plan for revenge. Ultimately, he killed a man in a gunfight, in the notorious town of Mud Hole, Virginia landing him on the Allegheny Chain Gang. Regardless of his intentions or motivations, one thing is for certain, “Bad” Bill Tutt lived an adventurous life, and is certainly the stuff of which legends are born.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WINNER OF THE 2023 NSW PREMIER'S LITERARY AWARDS ‘PATRICIA WRIGHTSON PRIZE FOR CHILDREN'S LITERATURE’ SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2023 PREMIER'S LITERARY AWARDS ‘INDIGENOUS WRITERS' PRIZE’ WINNER OF THE 2022 ABIA ‘BOOK OF THE YEAR FOR YOUNGER CHILDREN’ SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2022 CBCA 'EVE POWNALL' AWARD SHORTLISTED FOR THE 2022 QUEENSLAND LITERARY AWARDS 'CHILDREN'S BOOK AWARD' The First Scientists is the highly anticipated, illustrated science book from Corey Tutt of DeadlyScience. With kids aged 7 to 12 years in mind, this book will nourish readers’ love of science and develop their respect for Indigenous knowledge at the same time. Have you ever wondered what the stars can tell us? Did you know the seasons can be predicted just by looking at subtle changes in nature? Maybe you have wondered about the origins of glue or if forensic science is possible without a crime scene investigation. Australia's First peoples have the longest continuing culture on Earth and their innovation will amaze you as you leaf through the pages of this book, learning fascinating facts and discovering the answers to life's questions. In consultation with communities, Corey tells us of many deadly feats – from bush medicine to bush trackers – that are today considered 'science', and introduces us to many amazing scientists, both past and present. The breadth of ‘sciences’ is incredible with six main chapters covering astronomy, engineering, forensic science, chemistry, land management and ecology. The first scientists passed on the lessons of the land, sea and sky to the future scientists of today through stories, song and dance, and many of these lessons are now shared in this book. Vibrant illustrations by Blak Douglas bring the subjects to life, so you’ll never think about science as just people in lab coats ever again!
