Book Turbulent Mixing of a Confined Axisymmetric Jet Part I Nonseparating Conditions

Download or read book Turbulent Mixing of a Confined Axisymmetric Jet Part I Nonseparating Conditions written by John A. Brighton and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 199 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A high velocity air jet (primary) was directed into a constant diameter duct where it mixed with a lower velocity concentric air stream (secondary). Experimental measurements of the static pressure distribution, mean velocity profiles and turbulence quantities were taken from the initial location where there was a step change in the primary and secondary velocity profiles to the downstream location where the flow was fully developed. Calculations of the momentum flux and wall shear stress were made using the mean velocity and pressure measurements. (Author).

Book Analytical Investigation of Confined Turbulent Mixing of Jets

Download or read book Analytical Investigation of Confined Turbulent Mixing of Jets written by Kirti N. Ghia and published by . This book was released on 1972 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The turbulent mixing of confined axisymmetric incompressible jets was studied, using the turbulent boundary layer equations in terms of transformed von Mises variables, with semi-empirical formulations of the turbulent transport coefficients. The solution was obtained by the method of finite differences. Analytical predictions of the jet mixing flow fields were obtained for several configurations, covering a resonably wide range of values of the problem parameters. A turbulent mixing model which satisfactorily predicts mean flow profiles for a reasonably broad spectrum of flow conditions has been formulated.

Book Turbulent Mixing of Axisymmetric Compressible Jets

Download or read book Turbulent Mixing of Axisymmetric Compressible Jets written by Randall C. Maydew and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Velocity profiles at five axial stations in the half-jet mixing region of Mach 0.7, 0.85, 0.95, 1.49, and 1.96 free jets were measured. The nondimensional velocity distributions are similar, and correlate with the theory of Crane for incompressible flow. The half-jet spreading rate is essentially constsnt at subsonic speeds and decreases at supersonic speeds. The variation of jet spreading parameter with Mach number was determined from correlation of these and other data.

Book Turbulent Mixing of Axisymmetric Jets of Partially Dissociated Nitrogen with Ambient Air

Download or read book Turbulent Mixing of Axisymmetric Jets of Partially Dissociated Nitrogen with Ambient Air written by T. J. O'Connor and published by . This book was released on 1965 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent attempts to predict the heat transfer from a high enthalpy, compressible free jet impinging upon surfaces in its path have suffered from a complete lack of knowledge concerning the behavior of turbulent jets of dissociated gases. Although it had been assumed that high enthalpy gas streams would exhibit the characteristics of cold jets, which have been subjected to extensive study, there had been no experimental evidence to support this contention. A research program was conducted to determine radial and axial variations in fluid properties, i.e., velocity, density, enthalpy, etc., in compressible free jets of dissociated gases produced by electric-arc plasma generators. Experimental investigations were confined to the near flowfield of the jets, since 90 percent of change in jet fluid properties, from their initial values at the arc nozzle-exit plane to the properties of the ambient fluid, was accomplished within 40 nozzle radii from the jet origin. Heat-transfer rates from these jets, when impinging upon a flat surface perpendicular to the jet axis, were determined experimentally. Correlation of this data could then be accomplished by means of a relationship similar to those for stagnation-point heat transfer to blunt bodies in a uniform stream when local jet properties were employed. Book An Investigation of Ducted Two stream Variable density Turbulent Jet Mixing with Recirculation

Download or read book An Investigation of Ducted Two stream Variable density Turbulent Jet Mixing with Recirculation written by Roy J. Schulz and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation was conducted of two-stream, variable-density, turbulent jet mixing with recirculation confined within an axisymmetric duct that simulated a combustor configuration. The recirculating flow fields in the combustor simulator were the result of coaxial jet mixing between a central, primary air stream with a velocity of about 650 ft/sec and an annular secondary stream of hydrogen with velocities of 13, 23, or 48 ft/sec, depending on the desired test conditions. Experimental measurements are presented of radial distributions of time-averaged axial velocity and hydrogen mass fraction, axial distributions of time-averaged static pressure on the duct wall, axial velocity on the duct centerline, and hydrogen mass fraction on the duct wall and on the duct centerline. A theoretical study of the experimental flows was also conducted using a finite difference numerical solution technique for the calculation of viscous, recirculating flows. Comparison of theory and experiment shows that the predictive technique and the turbulence transport model require further development before accurate prediction of recirculating turbulent flows can be realized.

Book Turbulent Mixing Correlations in Free and Confined Jets

Download or read book Turbulent Mixing Correlations in Free and Confined Jets written by Dennsi E. Stowell and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 15 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of this study were to correlate jet mixing data to establish mixing model coefficients and to produce empirical correlations of jet core length and centerline decay rate. A literature review containing 312 jet mixing experiments is reported. Turbulent jet mixing coefficients for 249 experiments are correlated, resulting in predictions of core length and decay rate for all experiments with an error of about 20-25%. Empirical correlations of core length and decay rate are also presented which give direct engineering estimates of these parameters with an error about 20-25% without the use of a jet mixing model. Book Theoretical and Experimental Investigations on the Mixing of Isoenergetic Confined Co axial Jets

Download or read book Theoretical and Experimental Investigations on the Mixing of Isoenergetic Confined Co axial Jets written by W. Tabakoff and published by . This book was released on 1970 with total page 75 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A survey of experimental results for turbulent mixing between two compressible streams in a constant area duct is presented. The experimental results are for area ratios 3 and 7.16, for velocity ratios ranging from 0.4 to 2.8, and with velocity magnitudes varying from 200 ft/sec. to 950 ft/sec. A new constant of turbulence is recommended for the theoretical analysis of the confined jet mixing which uses the free jet mixing concepts. The regions in which this analysis could be used are delineated. (Author).
