Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jungle Animals Folk Tales: Children Folk Tales Based on Animals of the Jungle By: Dr. Zuvarashe Judith Mushipe Growing up in Zimbabwe in the 60s, there were no TVs, especially in the countryside. For entertainment the children listened to grown-ups telling them stories. Most of the stories had animal characters, but they conveyed lessons to the children. In this book, Dr. Zuvarashe Judith Mushipe narrates folk tales based on animals of the jungle. These are stories she grew up hearing as elders in her community narrated them to the children. Each story written in this book conveys a strong message to the children. The lessons from the stories can benefit both children and adults alike. In sharing these tales, Dr. Mushipe hopes to preserve the stories that have been passed from generation to generation in the Shona culture in Zimbabwe.

Book Social Media and Digital Dissidence in Zimbabwe

Download or read book Social Media and Digital Dissidence in Zimbabwe written by Trust Matsilele and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-29 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book proposes a new theorisation when studying cyber dissidents in an African digital sphere. It argues that social media dissidents are a recent development in a long lineage of dissidents in African societies. Using Zimbabwe as a case study, the study locates contemporary dissidents in the same family with other historical dissident figures found in African orature, the Chimurenga wars, through music, poetry and other forms of expression. The book argues against techno-deterministic approaches to studying social media-born digital dissidence in Africa. It is aimed at scholars dedicated to studying social media movements in African contexts and the global south generally, prompting them to re-evaluate their earlier conclusions and adopt a more nuanced and contextspecific approach.

Book The Oxford Handbook of Early Childhood Learning and Development in Music

Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Early Childhood Learning and Development in Music written by Margaret S. Barrett and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2023-09-15 with total page 1073 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Investigation of the role of music in early life and learning has been somewhat fragmented, with studies being undertaken within a range of fields with little apparent conversation across disciplinary boundaries, and with an emphasis on pre-schoolers' and school-aged childrens' learning and engagement. The Oxford Handbook of Early Childhood Learning and Development in Music brings together leading researchers in infant and early childhood cognition, music education, music therapy, neuroscience, cultural and developmental psychology, and music sociology to interrogate questions of how our capacity for music develops from birth, and its contributions to learning and development. Researchers in cultural psychology and sociology of musical childhoods investigate those factors that shape children's musical learning and development and the places and spaces in which children encounter and engage with music. These issues are complemented with consideration of the policy environment at local, national and global levels in relation to music early learning and development and the ways in which these shape young children's music experiences and opportunities. The volume also explores issues of music provision and developmental contributions for children with Special Education Needs, children living in medical settings and participating in music therapy, and those living in sites of trauma and conflict. Consideration of these environments provides a context to examine music learning and development in family, community and school settings including general and specialized school environments. Authors trace the trajectories of development within and across cultures and settings and in that process identify those factors that facilitate or constrain children's early music learning and development.

Book Folk Tales from Zimbabwe

Download or read book Folk Tales from Zimbabwe written by V. T. Kandimba and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2009-07-07 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While he was growing up, Tsuro, the bunny rabbit, learned the hard way to treat others as he wanted to be treated by them. Being street smart is good, but its not always the best way to live with others. As children, we must never look down on people. We can learn something from our friends no matter how different they are. Amazingly, Kamba, the turtle proved that slow is the new fast. I, Victoria Taurai Kandimba, a mother of four, born and raised in rural Zimbabwe am a natural storyteller. I was inspired by my grandparents who were great folk storytellers as I grew up. I moved to the USA in 2000. In the warm evenings, in a dimly lit hut, after dinner, my two grandmothers, Mandisiya and Taurai, would entertain the family with these folk stories while we shelled peanuts. Everyone took part in discussions to discipline or praise characters in these tales and we thoroughly enjoyed it. They were parables that taught children to grow into good responsible people.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A successful woman leaves California and returns to her native Zimbabwe, in a spiritual tale that reads “like crystal clear water in an ancient river” (Robert C. Jameson, PhD, author of The Keys to Joy-Filled Living). After completing her graduate studies in England, Yeukai returns home to rural Zimbabwe to a jubilant celebration rich in the cultural traditions of the Shona-speaking people. There, she receives life lessons from her beloved grandmother—a wise elder holding sacred knowledge passed down through generations. Though impressed by her grandmother's lessons, Yeukai sets them aside to pursue a corporate career in the biotech industry in California. For years, Yeukai embraces a consumer lifestyle, pretending to live the American dream. However, the busy activities of her life—focused on chasing material delusions—hide the emotional turmoil within, until things come to a head. In search for meaning in her life, Yeukai returns home to Zimbabwe only to be heartbroken by the devastation inflicted by AIDS, rampant corruption, and a near-collapsed economy. In despair, Yeukai turns within in search for answers in her life. And the answers start to be revealed—in the deep meaning of her grandmother's teachings and the rediscovering of her own true nature. And she begins to redefine her relationship with the world. With poems interspersed throughout, this novel poignantly captures Yeukai's triumphant journey to the realization that a life of purpose is truly possible if we allow ourselves to be guided by mystic powers.
