Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Triumph Yankee Doodle They fell into line. General Nunez, their commandante, was coming to inspect them. It was a sad, sinister line of men. All were lynx eyed. Some were frightened. A few looked weak-kneed, seemed to want to back out. These dark faces were all shades of brown: chocolate, ginger, cinnamon, walnut. Twenty or thirty were black as ebony. These were Cuban negroes, the tallest, strongest-looking men in all that eight hundred. The Cubans themselves were undersized - not one taller than five feet eight. They were narrow-chested and had very small hands and very small feet. But they looked very fierce, and they fondled their machetes. The commandante arrived. Inspection was supposed to follow. It didn't. The command ante dismissed the troops with orders to hold themselves in readiness to move. Great excitement in the ranks. Spanish oaths flew from mouth to mouth. There were protests and many head-shakings. Move? Why we are not ready to move. Move without clothing or arms? Never' Sail under an American flag? Never. Book Yankee Doodle Dixie Or Love the Light of Life Classic Reprint

Download or read book Yankee Doodle Dixie Or Love the Light of Life Classic Reprint written by J. V. Ryals and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-07-08 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Yankee Doodle Dixie; Or Love the Light of Life In submitting this book for public perusal, the author does so with feelings which none but those who have essayed to enter the domain of a literary life can possibly appreciate; for, while the lights which hope and novelty, courage and ambition kindled along the paths of labor as the work progressed did seem to glow with something of color, now, that the task is accomplished, seem to burn with a feeble, flickering flame, and I turn from penning the last line back to the first page, and sigh when I say, I would that it were better done or not done at all. So far the work has been mine - wholly mine - and the thought that my hands found employment congenial with the feelings of my heart has been a real pleasure and a substantial comfort; but soon the book will belong to the public, and its many defects will be noticed; while its merits, if indeed it has any, will be passed over in silence. I have tried to place truth and virtue, honor, patriotism, and principle in that light in which they should be viewed by the world. I have tried to exalt purity of character and chastity of thought, because I believe there lies the only foundation for real happiness. I have tried to give a clear, concise, and accurate statement of the facts and circumstances which culminated in the war between the States, because I believe a full knowledge of all the facts, and a clear understanding of the feelings and opinions to which they give rise, is the only ground upon which the North and the South can meet in friendly greeting, and the only means that can be employed that will destroy sectional prejudices and sectional animosities. I have adopted the style of fiction and the language of romance, because I believe that many who ought to read and learn the truth would never peruse the matter-of-fact manner of historical writing. Nothing has been set down in malice, nothing is cherished in unkindness. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book Hail Columbia the Flag and Yankee Doodle Dandy Classic Reprint

Download or read book Hail Columbia the Flag and Yankee Doodle Dandy Classic Reprint written by William Thomas Roberts Saffell and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2019-02-04 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Hail Columbia, the Flag and Yankee Doodle Dandy The reader is first made acquainted with life and character at Mount Vernon in the last few years of Washington's life; when the great Chief is seen among his domestics, living in all his greatness as a farmer, without the least obscuration of his glory. The negro is noticed because he necessarily crosses our path, not as a slave nor as a freeman, but simply as an historical character and informant; playing his part in the life, the song, the literature, and the history of the Mount. In the work, the ridiculous and the sublime are freely mingled, because they do actually exist together everywhere; and a separa tion is impossible Without violence to probability and truth. Download or read book I m a Yankee Doodle Danny written by Mary-Helen S. Foxx and published by . This book was released on 2018-06-28 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A book that upholds the old American values of truth, love of country, and patriotism. In a time when many seem to consider it slightly reprehensible to be openly patriotic and to proudly acclaim America's great achievements, this book unapologetically endorses the higher ideals and principles of our nation's calling. The author wasn't born on the Fourth of July, but he was born under the Stars and Stripes. I'm a Yankee Doodle Danny speaks of his love of country and loyalty to the principles of freedom wherever they exist. These stories of patriotism illustrate his sense of patriotism and range from poignant to humorous to bittersweet. There are lessons gently taught and a welcome sense of nostalgia for the patriotism of earlier times. Foxx believes that those who honor the unalienable human rights that Jefferson and other Founders wrote about, those who love freedom and justice and truth, are patriots to the same cause this book unashamedly endorses.

Book The Real Yankee Doodle

Download or read book The Real Yankee Doodle written by Lillian M. Henry and published by . This book was released on 2003-08 with total page 480 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reveals a tale of romance, music, and the tragedies encountered to some of the characters. The way the story is told it will make you smile, cry, and feel sad. It will be hard to put the story down so you might end up reading the entire story at one time. I the author of this story have read it several times and I still cry reading it. I've been reminded many times that men don't cry. If you have a love for music, this is the story to read. If you want to know what real hardships and tragedies are, read the story. You will feel the pains and realize how lucky you are to be the one reading the story and not being the characters in the story. When you read this story, it will bring out some of your hidden feelings you didn't know you had. This story is shorter then most stories, but it carries a punch. If you are weak, this is not the story for you. Like surprises? Then you must read the story. If you feel a need to cry and can't get it out, then you must read this story.
