Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: True Infinity: The AC Factor has been in the works in my mind for decades. I would get an idea about something that I had seen or heard and would dissect it in my brain as to its validity and relevance to our life journey. Time is critical in every aspect of this story as it also is to the fact that I haven't written it until now. Now I have experienced and understand better all that has presented itself across my stage. With the love of science and exploration that has transfigured my thought patterns, I have composed a fascinating story woven into a complex and adventuresome tale taken from what has personally happened to me. Set a few years into the future under a different, and I think superior, space exploration agenda, we find the main and supportive characters struggling with the questions of utmost importance in life. How they interact and deal with those questions and problems that everyone must face will ultimately determine their destiny. During your trek through these pages, you will encounter a reenactment of a time when I was actually drowning and could do nothing to stop it. The fact that I am here to write this book is quite remarkable. I hope that this will impact your life in a positive way and allow for you to ponder the most important questions that everyone has on their minds before time runs out. True Infinity: The AC Factor is a concept forty years in the making. Having experimented with poems and short stories during my high school years, it has always been a dream of mine to one day write a novel. To understand the title is only accomplished by reading the book. The story is more in the lines of science fiction, yet all of the situations really did happen to me and the people associated with my life, even the dying episode. The names were changed to protect the innocent. Used are many names of family members and people that I have known, but the characters' personality does not correspond to the names given. The stage is set a few years into the future with a few tweaks. After the Apollo missions, the government continued to pursue vigorously the exploration of space by setting up bases on the moon. Most of the history and political atmosphere remains the same, so as to be relatable. Every time that I would proof read this book, tears would swell from the bringing back of all of the memories. I hope that whoever has the opportunity to read this story can glean something positive and useful from its pages and pay it forward. Thank you so very much.

Book Truth Objects Infinity

Download or read book Truth Objects Infinity written by Fabrice Pataut and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-01-27 with total page 309 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume features essays about and by Paul Benacerraf, whose ideas have circulated in the philosophical community since the early nineteen sixties, shaping key areas in the philosophy of mathematics, the philosophy of language, the philosophy of logic, and epistemology. The book started as a workshop held in Paris at the Collège de France in May 2012 with the participation of Paul Benacerraf. The introduction addresses the methodological point of the legitimate use of so-called “Princess Margaret Premises” in drawing philosophical conclusions from Gödel’s first incompleteness theorem. The book is then divided into three sections. The first is devoted to an assessment of the improved version of the original dilemma of “Mathematical Truth” due to Hartry Field: the challenge to the platonist is now to explain the reliability of our mathematical beliefs given the very subject matter of mathematics, either pure or applied. The second addresses the issue of the ontological status of numbers: Frege’s logicism, fictionalism, structuralism, and Bourbaki’s theory of structures are called up for an appraisal of Benacerraf’s negative conclusions of “What Numbers Could Not Be.” The third is devoted to supertasks and bears witness to the unique standing of Benacerraf’s first publication: “Tasks, Super-Tasks, and Modern Eleatics” in debates on Zeno’s paradox and associated paradoxes, infinitary mathematics, and constructivism and finitism in the philosophy of mathematics. Two yet unpublished essays by Benacerraf have been included in the volume: an early version of “Mathematical Truth” from 1968 and an essay on “What Numbers Could Not Be” from the mid 1970’s. A complete chronological bibliography of Benacerraf’s work to 2016 is provided.Essays by Jody Azzouni, Paul Benacerraf, Justin Clarke-Doane, Sébastien Gandon, Brice Halimi, Jon Pérez Laraudogoitia, Mary Leng, Antonio León-Sánchez and Ana C. León-Mejía, Marco Panza, Fabrice Pataut, Philippe de Rouilhan, Andrea Sereni, and Stewart Shapiro.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the time of the Greek philosopher Zeno (fifth century BCE), our faculty of analytic understanding has failed to comprehend motion through the ages. The reason is the paradox or contradiction associated with motion. One fundamental contradiction is the conflict between the finite body and the infinite divisibility of the unit distance ab. Indeed, how is it possible to move from a to b if we must first pass through an infinite series of sub-distances in one instant? How can we traverse an unlimited series—a series without limit—yet reach its limit? Because the heart of the problem is the conflict between the finite and the infinite, its solution depends on reconciling this contradiction and transforming this reconciliation into the founding principle of motion. Having accomplished these two things, this work investigates the sweeping consequences they have regarding the geometric form of the physical universe, the Aristotelian ontology of the physical body, the nature of our finite brain, the finite analytic paradigm of empirical science and the meaning of our technological acceleration. This book will appeal to a wide range of readers with interests in the logical mechanics of the physical universe, the hidden powers of our finite brain, and the utility of robots in the future. Although some of the presentation requires the understanding of elementary mathematical equations, the argument is conducted at the deepest level: that of principles. This approach enables readers to follow the book’s reasoning without technical training on the subject.

Book God botherers and Other True believers

Download or read book God botherers and Other True believers written by F. G. Bailey and published by Berghahn Books. This book was released on 2008-05-01 with total page 244 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When reason fails to guide us in our everyday lives, we turn to faith, to religion; we close our minds; we reject austere reasoning. This rejection, which is a faith-based social and intellectual malignancy, has two unfortunate consequences: it blocks the way to knowledge that might enhance the quality of life and it opens the way to charlatans who exploit the faith of others. Examining two unquestionable malignancies of “the Christian Right” in present-day politics in the United States and the “secular religion” of Hitler’s National Socialism, as well as the third, more complex case of Gandhi, the author asserts that we need religion, but we also need to make sure it does no harm.

Book excerpt: Typically, undergraduates see real analysis as one of the most difficult courses that a mathematics major is required to take. The main reason for this perception is twofold: Students must comprehend new abstract concepts and learn to deal with these concepts on a level of rigor and proof not previously encountered. A key challenge for an instructor of real analysis is to find a way to bridge the gap between a student’s preparation and the mathematical skills that are required to be successful in such a course. Real Analysis: With Proof Strategies provides a resolution to the "bridging-the-gap problem." The book not only presents the fundamental theorems of real analysis, but also shows the reader how to compose and produce the proofs of these theorems. The detail, rigor, and proof strategies offered in this textbook will be appreciated by all readers. Features Explicitly shows the reader how to produce and compose the proofs of the basic theorems in real analysis Suitable for junior or senior undergraduates majoring in mathematics.
