Wiseman's research has involved secretly observing people as they go about their daily business, conducting unusual experiments in art exhibitions and music concerts, and even staging fake sainces in allegedly haunted buildings. Download or read book The Hidden Messages in Water written by Masaru Emoto and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2011-07-05 with total page 202 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this New York Times bestseller, internationally renowned Japanese scientist Masaru Emoto shows how the influence of our thoughts, words and feelings on molecules of water can positively impact the earth and our personal health. This book has the potential to profoundly transform your world view. Using high-speed photography, Dr. Masaru Emoto discovered that crystals formed in frozen water reveal changes when specific, concentrated thoughts are directed toward them. He found that water from clear springs and water that has been exposed to loving words shows brilliant, complex, and colorful snowflake patterns. In contrast, polluted water, or water exposed to negative thoughts, forms incomplete, asymmetrical patterns with dull colors. The implications of this research create a new awareness of how we can positively impact the earth and our personal health.

Book Candy

    Book Details:
  • Author : Luke Davies
  • Publisher : Allen & Unwin
  • Release : 2006-05-01
  • ISBN : 1760638218
  • Pages : 342 pages

Download or read book Candy written by Luke Davies and published by Allen & Unwin. This book was released on 2006-05-01 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There were good times and bad times, but in the beginning there were more good times. When I first met Candy those were the days of juice, when everything was bountiful. Only much later did it all start to seem like sugar and blood, blood and sugar...It's like you're cruising along in a beautiful car on a pleasant country road with the breeze in your hair and the smell of eucalyptus all around you. The horizon is always up there ahead, unfolding towards you, and at first you don't notice the gradual descent, or the way the atmosphere thickens. Bit by bit the gradient gets steeper, and before you realise you have no brakes, you're going pretty fucking fast.' Candy is a love story. It is also a novel about addiction. From the heady narcissism of the narrator's first days with his new lover, Candy, and the relative innocence of their shared habit, Candy charts their decline. Candy becomes a prostitute, the narrator becomes a scam artist, and smack becomes the total and only focus of their lives. But this is not just another junkie novel: Davies is a very fine writer and Candy is confronting, painful, sexy, tender and at times darkly hilarious. A remarkable novel.

Book Home Office Draft Modern Slavery Bill Cm 8770

Download or read book Home Office Draft Modern Slavery Bill Cm 8770 written by Great Britain: Home Office and published by The Stationery Office. This book was released on 2013-12-16 with total page 64 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Modern slavery encompasses human trafficking, slavery, forced labour and domestic servitude. In 2012, the International Labour Organization estimated that there were 21 million victims of forced labour across the world. Our current understanding of the exact scale of the problem is limited. The only systematic means we have for collecting data is the National Referral Mechanism (NRM) to which potential victims of modern slavery are referred. 1,186 potential victims of modern slavery were referred in 2012 - a 25 per cent increase on the previous year. The Government will go forward in three ways: through legislation in this Parliament; through non-legislative action across the country; and through upstream work in source countries. The draft Modern Slavery Bill will: consolidate and simplify existing slavery and trafficking offences; increase the maximum sentence available to life imprisonment; introduce civil orders to restrict the activity of those who pose a risk and those convicted of slavery and trafficking offences; create a new Anti-Slavery Commissioner role to galvanise law enforcement's efforts to tackle modern slavery; and establish a legal duty to report potential victims of trafficking to the National Crime Agency (NCA). The Rt Hon Frank Field MP was invited to run a number of evidence sessions to gather information and views from a wide range of experts. His recommendations will be fully considered as the Bill and action plan are developed. The action plan will also set out how we will improve law enforcement action in source countries, and take steps towards scaling up reintegration programmes

Book In the Wake of the Surge

Download or read book In the Wake of the Surge written by Michael J. Totten and published by . This book was released on 2011-08-01 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the Wake of the Surge is a gripping first-person narrative that tells the story of the Kurds, the Arabs, and the Americans in Iraq during one of the most violent and wrenching periods in that country's history. Award-winning foreign correspondent Michael J. Totten visited Iraq seven times between 2005 and 2009, first as a "unilateral" freelance journalist without a gun in the Kurdish autonomous region, and then as an embedded reporter with the U.S. Army and Marine Corps in Baghdad, Sadr City, Ramadi, and Fallujah. He was there at the beginning, in the middle, and at the end of General David Petraeus' "surge" of combat troops to Iraq and saw first-hand how young men from places like Florida and Texas pacified a relentless insurgency-an insurgency that most people, during the darkest days of the war, assumed would be victorious. In the Wake of the Surge is a bracing story of war in a tormented country by a writer who has spent enough time in the Middle East to know there are few happy endings, but who nevertheless was a witness when Iraqis and Americans drove each other to the brink of the abyss before managing, against all odds and at the very last second, to pull back and save themselves from utter catastrophe. Praise for Michael J. Totten "I think of only a certain number of people as having risen to the intellectual and journalistic challenges of the last few years, and Michael J. Totten is one of them." - Paul Berman, author of Terror and Liberalism "Michael J. Totten...practices journalism in the tradition of Orwell: morally imaginative, partisan in the best sense of the word, and delivered in crackling, rapid-fire prose befitting the violent realities it depicts. An unabashed classical liberal, Totten brings his political commitments and emotional intelligence to bear on the dramatic events he witnesses. As a result, he ends up far more clearsighted than the many analysts who claim 'objectivity' but share neither his love of the region and its inhabitants nor his concern for its future." - Sohrab Ahmari, Commentary "Michael J. Totten is a one of a rare breed. Moving from front to front, he brings experience and context and the willingness to go where few men dare." - Michael Yon, author of Moment of Truth in Iraq "Michael J. Totten, to my mind, is one of the world's most acute observers of Middle East politics. He is also an absolutely fearless reporter, both physically-he has explored the darkest corners of Middle East extremism-and morally." - Jeffrey Goldberg, author of Prisoners: A Story of Friendship and Terror Praise for The Road to Fatima Gate "A terrific book about a terrifying and beautiful part of the world." - Benjamin Kerstein, Jewish Ideas Daily columnist "It is extremely rare to read such an accurate account of anything to which one was oneself a witness." - Christopher Hitchens, author of God is Not Great "A thriller in which a daredevil reporter puts himself in harm's way in search of the inside story of some of the most dangerous outfits in the world." - Amir Taheri, Asharq al-Awsat "Outstanding...it grabbed me so quickly that I ended up lost in it." - Claire Berlinski, Ricochet

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: (Book). Outrageously talented, remarkably handsome, internationally renowned, and dead at the age of 21. More than 40 years after the tragic car crash that killed him, Eddie Cochran remains one of rock and roll's most lamented "What Ifs." A trailblazing guitarist, gifted vocalist, hit-making composer and arranger, and budding whiz-kid producer, Cochran quickly ascended from Midwestern obscurity in the late '50s to become one of nascent rock and roll's leading lights. He penned or recorded many of the most recognized songs in rock history "Summertime Blues," "Nervous Breakdown," "Somethin' Else," "C'mon Everybody," "Twenty Flight Rock," "Sittin' in the Balcony" songs whose distinctive sound and defiant, often wryly humorous lyrics have been eagerly digested, analyzed and lovingly reinterpreted by generations of rockers after him, from The Beatles to the Sex Pistols, The Who to U2. Three Steps to Heaven: The Eddie Cochran Story co-authored by Cochran's nephew, also a gifted musician is the first American biography of this uniquely American rock legend, who was among the first to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The book is a detailed portrait of Cochran's personal and professional triumphs and travails, with fascinating insight into the rock pioneer's life that only a family member can provide. 33 B/W photographs; Hardcover.

As Saul submits to the role-playing episodes of his brilliantly cruel house cook Kirstin, his plan to reclaim his darkly beautiful childhood governess Anna against the advice of a meddling old lawyer begins to sink under the weight of his craving for a more profound expression of control. Saul's maddening love of dominance leads to a denoument that is as satisfying as it is surprising.

Book After You

Download or read book After You written by Natascha McElhone and published by Penguin UK. This book was released on 2010-07 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Natascha McElhone, star of The Truman Show and Californication, was filming in LA, seven months pregnant with her third child with her other two young children playing in the gym across the road when she got a call from a friend that would change her life forever. Her husband, Martin, the love of her life and father to her delightful children and an apparently healthy man in his early 40s had died suddenly of a heart attack. In the weeks and months that followed the devastating shock Natascha continued to write her diary and letters to Martin (something she had always done as, due to her work, she was used to being far from home). They were letters of love, letters about their gorgeous boys, letters about the birth of the new baby and diary entries detailing the mundane and heartbreaking details of her new life: house repairs and terrifying family finances; trying to keep the children's lives as normal as possible in the face of such abnormal new circumstances. The result is a powerful, honest and moving story of a magical love affair and all-consuming grief, of being a mother alone and trying to live for the future.

Written from the perspective of its eponymous heroine, Helen Smith, it follows the fortunes of this lady as she uses her alluring charms to take her through life. Inevitably she is also abused along the way by the men who cannot resist the appeal of sex incarnate and so Helen's existence fluctuates from one of liberation to one of imprisonment.
