Méthode : Une étude analytique concernant 10 questionnaires a été réalisée auprès de familles faisant partie de l’association GEIST 21 à Nice. Résultats : L’étude analytique a révélée que l’annonce et la prise en charge des familles n’ont pas été toujours optimales, et qu’elles dépendent du comportement des professionnels de santé. Discussion et conclusion : il n’existe pas de bonne facon d’annoncer une mauvaise nouvelle. Il est toutefois indispensable que le personnel puisse organiser des réflexions autour de l’annonce du handicap et de l'accompagnement de ces familles afin d’améliorer leur prise en charge.

Notre enquête aupres des sages-femmes exercant au sein des hopitaux et cliniques du réseau sécurité naissance a pour but de savoir si les sages-femmes sont soutenues lors de l'annonce, si elles ont connaissance de leur rôle, ainsi que de l'accompagnement des parents et de l'enfant. L'étude a révélé que les sages-femmes ont une faible connaissance des conditions d'annonce d'un handicap en maternité, mais qu'elles ont la volonté de se former pour améliorer la prise en charge du couple. De plus, elle a montré que les professionnels ayant deja vécu cette situation dans leur entourage ont une meilleure approche de l'annonce d'une trisomie 21 lors de l'exercice de leur profession. Enfin, lors de la discussion, deux propositions pour aider les sages-femmes dans cette annonce de handicap en maternité ressortent : un renforcement des formations initiales et continues et la mise en place d'un référent en maternité

La violence de l'annonce du diagnostic de Trisomie 21 engendre des répercussions néfastes sur l'enfant handicapé mais également sur sa famille tout entière. En outre, quelles qu'en soient les circonstances, l'annonce n'a de sens que si elle se conjugue à l'accompagnement. Il est indispensable de soutenir les parents dans cette épreuve mais aussi de savoir les informer et les orienter vers une prise en charge précoce de leur enfant. Ce mémoire consiste en une analyse comparative sur l'évolution de ces dix dernières années. Après avoir posé les bases théorique de la trisomie 21, les modalités de l'annonce et de l'éducation précoce, nous avons tenté, par le biais d'un questionnaire, de recueillir les témoignages des parents sur la manière dont ils ont vécu l'annonce et ont été informés· sur l'éducation précoce. A partir de cette étude, nous avons proposé une plaquette informative, destinée aux professionnels de maternité, concernant les conduites conseillées lors de la procédure d'annonce, qui sont apparues bien trop souvent encore inappropriées dans la réalité. Nous avons également abordé l'éducation précoce en insistant sur ses intérêts et ses modalités.
