Book Jordan Triple Systems in Complex and Functional Analysis

Download or read book Jordan Triple Systems in Complex and Functional Analysis written by José M. Isidro and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2019-12-09 with total page 560 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a systematic account of the impressive developments in the theory of symmetric manifolds achieved over the past 50 years. It contains detailed and friendly, but rigorous, proofs of the key results in the theory. Milestones are the study of the group of holomomorphic automorphisms of bounded domains in a complex Banach space (Vigué and Upmeier in the late 1970s), Kaup's theorem on the equivalence of the categories of symmetric Banach manifolds and that of hermitian Jordan triple systems, and the culminating point in the process: the Riemann mapping theorem for complex Banach spaces (Kaup, 1982). This led to the introduction of wide classes of Banach spaces known as JB∗-triples and JBW∗-triples whose geometry has been thoroughly studied by several outstanding mathematicians in the late 1980s. The book presents a good example of fruitful interaction between different branches of mathematics, making it attractive for mathematicians interested in various fields such as algebra, differential geometry and, of course, complex and functional analysis.

This book was released on 2011-04-27 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Applications of Declarative Programming and Knowledge Management, INAP 2009, held in Évora, Portugal, in November 2009. The 12 revised full papers presented together with 2 invited talks were carefully reviewed and selected during two rounds of reviewing and improvement. The conference comprehensively covers the impact of programmable logic solvers in the internet society, its underlying technologies, and leading edge applications in industry, commerce, government, and societal services. The topics of the selected papers concentrate on three currently important fields: foundations and extensions of logic programming, databases and query languages, declarative programming with logic languages, and applications thereof.

Book excerpt: Finite Geometries stands out from recent textbooks about the subject of finite geometries by having a broader scope. The authors thoroughly explain how the subject of finite geometries is a central part of discrete mathematics. The text is suitable for undergraduate and graduate courses. Additionally, it can be used as reference material on recent works. The authors examine how finite geometries’ applicable nature led to solutions of open problems in different fields, such as design theory, cryptography and extremal combinatorics. Other areas covered include proof techniques using polynomials in case of Desarguesian planes, and applications in extremal combinatorics, plus, recent material and developments. Features: Includes exercise sets for possible use in a graduate course Discusses applications to graph theory and extremal combinatorics Covers coding theory and cryptography Translated and revised text from the Hungarian published version

Book Cellular Automata and Groups

Download or read book Cellular Automata and Groups written by Tullio Ceccherini-Silberstein and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2024-02-16 with total page 562 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book provides a self-contained exposition of the theory of cellular automata on groups and explores its deep connections with recent developments in geometric and combinatorial group theory, amenability, symbolic dynamics, the algebraic theory of group rings, and other branches of mathematics and theoretical computer science. The topics treated include the Garden of Eden theorem for amenable groups, the Gromov–Weiss surjunctivity theorem, and the solution of the Kaplansky conjecture on the stable finiteness of group rings for sofic groups. Entirely self-contained and now in its second edition, the volume includes 10 appendices and more than 600 exercises, the solutions of which are presented in the companion book Exercises in Cellular Automata and Groups (2023) by the same authors. It will appeal to a large audience, including specialists and newcomers to the field.

Book Aggregation Operators

Download or read book Aggregation Operators written by Tomasa Calvo and published by Physica. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 361 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 1. The increasing number of research papers appeared in the last years that either make use of aggregation functions or contribute to its theoretieal study asses its growing importance in the field of Fuzzy Logie and in others where uncertainty and imprecision play a relevant role. Since these papers are pub lished in many journals, few books and several proceedings of conferences, books on aggregation are partieularly welcome. To my knowledge, "Agrega tion Operators. New Trends and Applications" is the first book aiming at generality , and I take it as a honour to write this Foreword in response to the gentle demand of its editors, Radko Mesiar, Tomasa Calvo and Gaspar Mayor. My pleasure also derives from the fact that twenty years aga I was one of the first Spaniards interested in the study of aggregation functions, and this book includes work by several Spanish authors. The book contains nice and relevant original papers, authored by some of the most outstanding researchers in the field, and since it can serve, as the editors point out in the Preface, as a small handbook on aggregation, the book is very useful for those entering the subject for the first time. The book also contains apart dealing with potential areas of application, so it can be helpful in gaining insight on the future developments.

Book Recent Developments in Representation Theory

Download or read book Recent Developments in Representation Theory written by Alex Martsinkovsky and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2016-08-26 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume contains selected expository lectures delivered at the Maurice Auslander Distinguished Lectures and International Conference, held May 1–6, 2014, at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Woods Hole, MA. Several significant developments of the last decade in representation theory of finite-dimensional algebras are related to combinatorics. Three of the five lectures in this volume deal, respectively, with the Catalan combinatorics, the combinatorics of Gelfand-Zetlin polytopes, and the combinatorics of tilting modules. The remaining papers present history and recent advances in the study of left orders in left Artinian rings and a survey on invariant theory of Artin-Schelter regular algebras.

Book excerpt: When Karin Roth goes to Bogotá as an exchange student she quickly falls in love with the country and its people. Lively, attractive and opinionated, she soon has a wide circle of Colombian friends, and is studying and partying in equal measure. A trip to stay in a friend’s finca farm, however, awakens her to the beauty and grandeur of the Colombian landscape while an encounter with the strange, fair-headed El Mono – a ‘mountain man’ with a profound, near-mystical connection to the Andean people and wildlife – conjures deep, troubling emotions. Offered a summer internship in a top-flight multinational in Bogotá, Karen finds her loyalties are divided. Caught between the dazzling, cosmopolitan world of big business and the exhilarating freedom of the mountains and the pueblos, Karin must undergo a painful journey towards self-knowledge and redemption. ----- Originally from London, Tony Cleaver has been a journalist, hippy, teacher, road sweeper, mountain guide, university lecturer and writer. He has lived and worked in Colombia, Chile, Singapore and the Netherlands and is the author of two economics textbooks published by Routledge. After many years teaching economics at the University of Durham, he has recently moved back to Colombia, where he lectures part-time, writes and plays cricket.
