African American Studies. Music. California Interest. THE FEEL TRIO is Cecil Taylor, Tony Oxley and William Parker. Or is it that THE FEEL TRIO are Cecil Taylor, Tony Oxley and William Parker? See, that's the amazing problem and chance, right there! In the wake and air and light of THE FEEL TRIO, what it bears and what propels them, which is everything in particular, THE FEEL TRIO tries to put some things together. Alabama runs through those things like nobody's business. I kept trying to visit the uncounted space James Brown forms around the one. To celebrate the varieties of black devotion. But coalition can't be too easy; it's in our nature not to come naturally lyrically, beautifully violently. The organizing principles, in our extramusical tailor's retrofit of fitting, sharp as a tack from the tone worlds of east by southeast of Sheffield, the Bronx's compassionate project/s and fly, flaired, flared Corona: listen to everything, relax the shape, approach with love, be worthy of a lovely t! ***National Book Award Finalist, 2014

Book Trio Planet Parable Run A Verse History of Victoria Woodhull and Endless Body

Download or read book Trio Planet Parable Run A Verse History of Victoria Woodhull and Endless Body written by Karen Donovan and published by . This book was released on 2021-08-24 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Trio: three books of poetry -- Planet Parable, by Karen Donovan; Run, by Diane Raptosh; Endless Body by Daneen Wardrop-bound together in one accommodating volume; three distinct and fully realized, absorbing universes that stand on their own but, here, not apart. Inevitably, serendipitously, the intelligences, preoccupations, prosodic signatures begin to reverberate and ricochet, not just for readers but for the poets themselves, who together, in an afterward, comment on the project and create an intriguing cento of combined lines. Individually, Karen Donovan's poems unspool lyric macrocosms and microcosms with equal and precise astonishment; Diane Raptosh's poems unveil and reclaim with intimacy the spiritual, sexual and political history of Victoria Woodhull, an American feminist purged from the annals; and the poems of Dareen Wardrop, with close and darting attention, create an intricate, syncopated network. Each of these three poets, with daring and mastery, compels on her own; together in Trio, their synergy is riveting"--

Book excerpt: This is a single volume of the three books of poetry and prose published by this author in 2016. Each is available separately, or you can own them all in this single convenient volume. The image on the cover of this book depicts pure energy and its opposites. It is mass, born of light, and driven by light to live. That is a central theme of much of this author's writing as he traces the energy through time that has become our history. He explores the links between, and the paradox of, the separation of our consciousness from the universe in which it exists. He basically questions how something can be unlike the source from which it springs, especially when that source appears to be the fabric of space and time in which it all exists. Isn't it much more likely that this is all the same single moment of creation?Join the adventure now.

Book Three Trios

  • Author :
  • Publisher : Northwestern University Press
  • Release : 2007
  • ISBN : 0810151804
  • Pages : 104 pages

Download or read book Three Trios written by and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 2007 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three Trios brings together, for the first time, translations of two ancient texts. The Apocryphal Book of Judith may be the more familiar one--the tale of a widow as warrior-savior. Less familiar may be the possibility that hidden within this narrative is another older sequence, a pagan one. The ritual that initiated a woman into the Dionysian also licensed her to leave her community. That ceremony, for all the running and blood-letting, helped the cultivated woman cultivate her individuation out of a morass of femininity. The "Mysteries" were widely practiced, and yet to preserve their secrecy, any documentary evidence was surely hidden, coded, or bowdlerized. It is possible that the Book of Judith was such a disguised book of common pagan prayer. Three Trios is composed out of this audacious possibility.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Guggenheim Fellowship (2016) The Little Edges is a collection of poems that extends poet Fred Moten's experiments in what he calls "shaped prose"—a way of arranging prose in rhythmic blocks, or sometimes shards, in the interest of audio-visual patterning. Shaped prose is a form that works the "little edges" of lyric and discourse, and radiates out into the space between them. As occasional pieces, many of the poems in the book are the result of a request or commission to comment upon a work of art, or to memorialize a particular moment or person. In Moten's poems, the matter and energy of a singular event or person are transformed by their entrance into the social space that they, in turn, transform.
