Book Sizing the U S and North American Intelligent Transportation Systems Market

Download or read book Sizing the U S and North American Intelligent Transportation Systems Market written by and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The U.S. DOT RITA commissioned this work to characterize the scope and scale of the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) industry, particularly the aspects within the private sector. The ITS industry has never been extensively characterized, particularly those products and services within the private sector. These private sector ITS products and services are growing in terms of service offerings, scale, visibility and use by consumers and public agencies. To serve its role in supporting research to advance the ITS industry, the U.S. DOT RITA wanted to better understand the scope, scale and growth projections within the private sector industry.

Book Economic Impacts of Intelligent Transportation Systems

Download or read book Economic Impacts of Intelligent Transportation Systems written by E Bekiaris and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2004-07-24 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There are unique complexities associated with the economic valuation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and telematics. Traditional methods of quantitative analysis may not be appropriate in accurately and reliably assessing the economic impacts of these technologies. Although advanced transportation and related technologies are being planned and deployed at an increasingly rapid pace, many of the technologies are still relatively new, and their use may not be widespread. Much of the initial information and statistics gathered have been anecdotal and have focused more on benefits rather than costs. Therefore, difficulties arise due to the lack of historical data and 'lessons learned' from which to draw upon. In addition, compared with traditional transportation infrastructure, ITS technologies have different life cycles, cost structures, and a number of interrelated elements. This book addresses these concerns and proposes new economic assessment techniques as well as modifications to existing ones. Included are case studies from a multitude of North American, European, and Asian nations and major metropolitan areas covering a wide range of ITS technologies including freeway management, electronic toll collection, advanced driver assistance systems, and traveller information systems.

Book Intelligent Transportation Systems

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Traffic congestion burdens the nation'squality of life and will likely growsubstantially if current trends continue.Intelligent Transportation Systems(ITS) are a range of technologies thatcan reduce congestion at less costthan some other approaches. The U.S.Department of Transportation's (DOT)Research and Innovative TechnologyAdministration (RITA) is responsible forpromoting and supporting the use ofITS in coordination with other modaladministrations, including the FederalHighway Administration (FHWA). Since1994, DOT has overseen the allocationand expenditure of more than $3 billionfor deploying and researching ITS.GAO was asked to address (1) thecurrent and emerging uses of ITStechnologies by state and localgovernments, (2) the challenges thesegovernments face in using ITS, and (3)the extent to which DOT's efforts topromote and support ITS addressthese challenges and follow leadingpractices. To conduct this work GAOvisited four sites, and interviewed andanalyzed documents and data fromDOT and state and local transportationofficials, ITS experts, and otherstakeholders."

This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From its beginnings, the federal Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) program has viewed cooperation with the private sector as essential for the timely implementation of ITS technologies and services. Indeed, one of the program's four guiding principles is "to create a new industry by involving and emphasizing the private sector in all aspects of the program." This has been achieved through ongoing partnerships in research, capacity building, standards-setting, and other areas.
