Book excerpt: Profound reflections on the cross that help you to meditate on and marvel at the sacrificial love of Jesus. This book can be used as a devotional, especially during Lent and Easter. These profound reflections on the cross from David Mathis, author of The Christmas We Didn’t Expect, will help you to meditate on and marvel at Jesus’ life, sacrificial death, and spectacular resurrection-enabling you to treasure anew who Jesus is and what he has done. Many of us are so familiar with the Easter story that it becomes easy to miss subtle details and difficult to really enjoy its meaning. This book will help you to pause and marvel at Jesus, whose now-glorified wounds are a sign of his unfailing love and the decisive victory that he has won: “He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) This book can be used as a devotional. The chapters on Holy Week make it especially helpful during the Lent season and at Easter.

Book excerpt: God's love for us and desire for us to know Him and to treasure Him only is paramount throughout scripture. God's Word shares that "David is a man after God's own heart." David's heart is revealed to us in the Bible and is most evident in the Psalms, where David shares his heart's cry and desire to glorify his Heavenly Father. David also prophetically praises the coming Messiah, the Treasured King. Like all of us, David was imperfect, yet he demonstrated a desire and commitment to fulfill God's will throughout his life. David left us an example of passionate devotion and humble repentance. His journey of grace, restoration and hope still rings true for us today. As we study God's Word, may we also see that God is after our hearts as well. Be that man or woman after God's own heart! Experience that same passion for God as David did. Take this journey through the life of David. Allow it to penetrate your heart. Reflect on the questions at the end of each chapter and allow God, through His Holy Spirit, to speak to you and draw you closer to Christ Jesus, "The Treasured King."

Book excerpt: The nature of this book Hidden Treasures is based on certain principles that God desires for us to live by that we might be better equipped to live for him and to be a light in this world that we live in. This book is designed to detail some of the principles that we talk about daily and how important it is that we apply them in our everyday lives. It is not that they are hidden to us, but the fact that until they become practical and practiced in our lives, all they will be is something that we read about but never become effective in. This book I believe is also a road map to living a life in the spirit that will bring glory to God by allowing our lives to be a tool that he can use for the sake of showing others the grace, power, and the ability of the Holy Ghost to change lives. It has been written with the purpose of being easy to read and follow.

Download or read book The Life Of David written by Arthur Pink and published by Darolt Books. This book was released on 2020-01-25 with total page 869 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Life Of David is a message of meditation based on the Bible and written by Arthur Walkington Pink was born in Nottingham, England, to a corn merchant, a devout non-conformist of uncertain denomination, though probably a Congregationalist. Otherwise, almost nothing is known of Pink's childhood or education except that he had some ability and training in music. As a young man, Pink joined the Theosophical Society and apparently rose to enough prominence within its ranks that Annie Besant, its head, offered to admit him to its leadership circle. In 1908 he renounced Theosophy for evangelical Christianity. Desiring to become a minister but unwilling to attend a liberal theological college in England, Pink very briefly studied at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago in 1910 before taking the pastorate of the Congregational church in Silverton, Colorado. In 1912 Pink left Silverton, probably for California, and then took a joint pastorate of churches in rural Burkesville and Albany, Kentucky. In 1916, he married Vera E. Russell (1893–1962), who had been reared in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Pink's next pastorate seems to have been in Scottsville. Then the newlyweds moved in 1917 to Spartanburg, South Carolina, where Pink became pastor of Northside Baptist Church. By this time Pink had become acquainted with prominent dispensationalist Fundamentalists, such as Harry Ironside and Arno C. Gaebelein, and his first two books, published in 1917 and 1918, were in agreement with that theological position. Yet Pink's views were changing, and during these years he also wrote the first edition of The Sovereignty of God (1918), which argued that God did not love sinners and had deliberately created "unto damnation" those who would not accept Christ. Whether because of his Calvinistic views, his nearly incredible studiousness, his weakened health, or his lack of sociability, Pink left Spartanburg in 1919 believing that God would "have me give myself to writing." But Pink then seems next to have taught the Bible with some success in California for a tent evangelist named Thompson while continuing his intense study of Puritan writings.

Download or read book Treasures from the Cross written by David Skeba and published by Carpenters Son Pub. This book was released on 2009-12-01 with total page 166 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What happened that Friday on a Roman cross 2,000 years ago? Hidden in this mystery are treasures just waiting to be discovered! You can discover the most valuable treasure you could ever find in your lifetime. This treasure is Jesus Christ and His awesome love for you. You can begin to experience this genuine love through the information presented in this book! Unfortunately, most of us go through life without realizing the depth of God's passionate love for us--a love so great that He would rather die an excruciating death than live in heaven without you. If you only knew how much He desires to have a personal relationship with you and how much He wants you to be with Him for eternity. The gateway to realizing the depth of God's love is by comprehending the meaning of Christ's death on the cross and that He died there personally for YOU! But has the mystery of the cross of Christ been difficult for you to understand? It was for me. At one point in my life, I used to think that it was just a tradition handed down to us by the church--without relevance for our generation in the 21st century. One day I had a life-changing encounter with the God of the Bible and suddenly began to see things in a whole new light. Since that time, during my 40 years of being a Christian, the Holy Spirit has given me insights into the meaning of Christ's death on the cross, and my book Treasures from the Cross is the result. I have written this book because I am eager to help you discover its deeper meanings, just as I did--and not only to help you discover them, but to encourage you to go beyond the discovery to obtaining them and living a richer Christian life because of them, and ultimately enjoy fellowship with Christ forever. Why did the Father send His only Son to this earth? Why did Jesus endure such incredible, horrific suffering? What did God hope to accomplish? Christ desires that we understand this expression of His great love for us and that we comprehend the spiritual wealth He has lavished upon us through the cross of Christ. Jesus Christ paid the highest price possible to secure for you the greatest treasures of all. Do you know what these treasures are? Uncover 16 precious spiritual gifts that are already yours as a believer but may remain hidden from you. Now imagine receiving a very lovely present and when you unwrap and open it, to your surprise, you find many individual smaller gifts beautifully wrapped inside. Similarly, the treasures from the cross are contained in the person of Christ. But imagine leaving some of these gifts unopened. Who would do that? Yet this is what many Christians do with the gifts of Christ. For whatever reason, they fail to "open," or understand, all the treasures Jesus has obtained for them on the cross. As a result, because of this ignorance of all the victories He has won for them, they experience defeat and frustration in many areas of their lives. Although Jesus has already purchased these costly gifts for us, they are not automatically ours. A gift can not be earned. We can only accept or reject it. Indeed, is any gift truly "ours" until we receive it? These wonderful treasures do not become ours until we receive Christ. Jesus Christ purchased incredible spiritual wealth for each one of us. These treasures that Christ paid so dearly for are the most expensive love gifts you will ever be offered. Jesus wants you to understand these marvelous gifts so you can respond to His love and obtain them. How many gifts are you aware of that Jesus bought personally for you? These hidden treasures from the cross lay waiting to be discovered! In addition to getting a greater insight into the depth of Christ's love, you will also obtain a better comprehension of God's ways--ways so much higher, different, and foreign to our human way of thinking as He provides salvation for a sinful human race. And finally, you'll gain a greater understanding of what exactly Jesus accomplished for you by His death and resurrection. Of all the vast knowledge that you can obtain in this Information Age, these are the most valuable truths that you could ever know in this life because of their eternal ramifications.

Book Seeing and savouring Jesus Christ

Download or read book Seeing and savouring Jesus Christ written by JOHN PIPER and published by Inter-Varsity Press. This book was released on 2020-05-21 with total page 105 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who is Jesus Christ? You've never met Him in person, and you don't know anyone who has. But there is a way to know who he is. How? Jesus Christ - the divine Person revealed in the Bible - has a unique excellence and a spiritual beauty that speaks directly to our souls and says, "Yes, this is truth." It's like seeing the sun and knowing that it is light, or tasting honey and knowing that it is sweet. The depth and complexity of Jesus shatter our simple mental frameworks. He baffled proud scribes with his wisdom but was understood and loved by children. He calmed a raging storm with a word but would not get himself down from the cross. Look at the Jesus of the Bible. Keep your eyes open, and fill them with the portrait of Jesus in God's Word. Jesus said, "If anyone's will is to do God's will, He will know whether the teaching is from God or whether I am speaking on my own authority." Ask God for the grace to do His will, and you will see the truth of His Son. John Piper has written this book in the hope that all will see Jesus for who he really is and will come to enjoy him above all else.
