Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Treasures of a Lost Art presents 144 leaves, cuttings, and illuminated manuscript fragments from the collection of Robert Lehman (1891-1969), one of the largest and most impressive private holdings of Italian manuscripts assembled after the First World War. Discussed here - with many of them handsomely illustrated in full color - are important examples of the major schools of illumination in southern Italy, Umbria, Tuscany, Emilia, Lombardy, and the Veneto. Previously unpublished, and perhaps even unknown to scholars, are works by some of the foremost Italian painters of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, including a leaf here attributed for the first time to the Sienese master Duccio di Buoninsegna and cuttings by Stefano da Verona and Cosimo Tura. Lesser-known arists, such as Neri da Rimini, Belbello da Pavia, and Girolamo da Cremona, once renowned for their beautifully illuminated volumes, are also discussed in full."--BOOK JACKET.

This book was released on 2015-08-04 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Incunabulic Treasures and Medieval Nuggets From the Trivulzio Library of Milan, Italy: Including Vellum Manuscripts of the Thirteenth to Seventeenth Centuries, Illuminated With Painted Miniatures, Floriated Borders, and Initials in Gold and Colors; To Which Are Added From Other Collections Mss; Of Luther, Melancthon, Voltaire, Etc;, Early P Conspicuous among Private Libraries of international repute, such as the "Bibliotheca Spenceriana," over the bibliography of which Dibdin so lovingly lingered, was that of the Trivulzio, at Milan. This had long been the "Sacred Kaaba" of Italian bibliophilistic pilgrims, as the Althorp collection is still of British bibliognostes. Its celebrity has been such that the fame thereof has found its way into the encyclopedias. Thus we read on page 4890 of the eleventh volume of Appleton's "New American Cyclopedia" that "the most extensive private library in Milan, is that of the Marquis Trivulzio." As a number of the illuminated vellum treasures of this library are to be dis-posed of in New York, under the auctioneer's gavel, perhaps a brief account willnot be uninteresting of the former owners of these precious gems which are so rich in literature, so resplendent in color, so glorious in art, and so hoary with antiquity. The annals of the Trivulzio family are a portion of medievalism. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
