Book The Secret

Download or read book The Secret written by Byron Preiss and published by ibooks. This book was released on 2016-10-05 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The tale begins over three-hundred years ago, when the Fair People—the goblins, fairies, dragons, and other fabled and fantastic creatures of a dozen lands—fled the Old World for the New, seeking haven from the ways of Man. With them came their precious jewels: diamonds, rubies, emeralds, pearls... But then the Fair People vanished, taking with them their twelve fabulous treasures. And they remained hidden until now... Across North America, these twelve treasures, over ten-thousand dollars in precious jewels, are buried. The key to finding each can be found within the twelve full color paintings and verses of The Secret. Yet The Secret is much more than that. At long last, you can learn not only the whereabouts of the Fair People's treasure, but also the modern forms and hiding places of their descendants: the Toll Trolls, Maitre D'eamons, Elf Alphas, Tupperwerewolves, Freudian Sylphs, Culture Vultures, West Ghosts and other delightful creatures in the world around us. The Secret is a field guide to them all. Many "armchair treasure hunt" books have been published over the years, most notably Masquerade (1979) by British artist Kit Williams. Masquerade promised a jewel-encrusted golden hare to the first person to unravel the riddle that Williams cleverly hid in his art. In 1982, while everyone in Britain was still madly digging up hedgerows and pastures in search of the golden hare, The Secret: A Treasure Hunt was published in America. The previous year, author and publisher Byron Preiss had traveled to 12 locations in the continental U.S. (and possibly Canada) to secretly bury a dozen ceramic casques. Each casque contained a small key that could be redeemed for one of 12 jewels Preiss kept in a safe deposit box in New York. The key to finding the casques was to match one of 12 paintings to one of 12 poetic verses, solve the resulting riddle, and start digging. Since 1982, only two of the 12 casques have been recovered. The first was located in Grant Park, Chicago, in 1984 by a group of students. The second was unearthed in 2004 in Cleveland by two members of the Quest4Treasure forum. Preiss was killed in an auto accident in the summer of 2005, but the hunt for his casques continues.

Book THE TREASURE TRAIL Wild West Adventure Classic

Download or read book THE TREASURE TRAIL Wild West Adventure Classic written by Marah Ellis Ryan and published by e-artnow. This book was released on 2017-04-11 with total page 255 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This carefully crafted ebook: “THE TREASURE TRAIL” is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Excerpt: "In the shade of Pedro Vijil's little brown adobe on the Granados rancho, a horseman squatted to repair a broken cinch with strips of rawhide, while his horse––a strong dappled roan with a smutty face––stood near, the rawhide bridle over his head and the quirt trailing the ground. The horseman's frame of mind was evidently not of the sweetest, for to Vijil he had expressed himself in forcible Mexican––which is supposed to be Spanish and often isn't––condemning the luck by which the cinch had gone bad at the wrong time, and as he tinkered he sang softly an old southern ditty...." Marah Ellis Ryan (1860–1934) was an author, actress, and activist from the United States. She was noted as an authority on the tribal life of the Indians in the United States and Mexico and went to live with the Hopi tribe becoming the only white female to be ever admitted to their secret religious rites. As a young woman she wrote poems and stories under the pen-name of “Ellis Martin.”

Book excerpt: Fast cars. Outlaw country boys. Snarky werewolves, vengeful ghosts, and menacing monsters. Dawson King's family has been hunting things that go bump in the night in Transylvania County, North Carolina, since before the Revolutionary War. Dawson was never happier than when he was racing his souped-up Mustang along winding mountain roads and hunting monsters with his best friend, Grady. Then Grady fell in love with him, which should have been perfect since Dawson had already fallen hard for Grady. But Grady was only seventeen, and Dawson feared that sooner or later, Grady would realize his feelings were just a first crush, and then he'd be gone, leaving Dawson devastated. They both needed space to figure things out. So Dawson joined the army, while Grady stayed on the mountain. Four years later, Dawson is coming home. He's more sure than ever Grady is his forever love, and they've both agreed to begin this new aspect of their relationship as soon as Dawson gets back. Then Grady's father is killed in a werewolf hunt gone wrong. Grady is devastated, and he's throwing mixed signals about moving forward. Dawson knows he needs to hold off on this new thing between them until Grady has time to grieve. But monsters never sleep, and one hunt after another throws Dawson and Grady into constant danger, while tension and unresolved feelings ripple between them. Making it even harder, Dawson's got a secret. He's dreamed of death omens-which point to something stalking Grady. Can Dawson figure out who's trying to kill Grady, save his life, and win back his heart? Plenty of mutual pining, hurt/comfort, spooky chills, sexy thrills, and a very happy ending. The Kings of the Mountain is the first novel in the series. It is a MM romance intended for readers 18 years of age and older.

Book excerpt: When Guillermo is gifted a bag of gold coins from the 1800s by his grandmother, he is also regaled with stories of the old west and his five times Great-Uncle Gustavo. Gustavo never thought his life would be anything but robbing, running, and fending off hateful comments about his heritage. Then he met the big blond wannabe cowboy with the beat-up hat and a sometimes too big smile. Guillermo and August’s relationship is rather new, too. As events unfold in eerily similar fashion some 150 years apart, both couples face prejudice, serious injury, insecurities, drug issues, and a brush with the law, all of which test their love. Are the coins bad luck? Are they somehow magical? Does more money mean more problems? One pair is determined to survive several turns of the calendar page, while one man thinks it might be better to go their separate ways.

Book excerpt: INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER #1 New York Times bestselling author C. J. Box's Treasure State finds Cassie Dewell in Montana on the trail of a con man. Private Investigator Cassie Dewell’s business is thriving, and her latest case puts her on the hunt for a slippery con man who’s disappeared somewhere in the “treasure state”. A wealthy Florida widow has accused him of absconding with her fortune, and wants Cassie to find him and get it back. The trail takes Cassie to Anaconda, Montana, a quirky former copper mining town that’s the perfect place to reinvent yourself. As the case develops, Cassie begins to wonder if her client is telling her everything. On top of that, Cassie is also working what's easily one of her strangest assignments ever. A poem that promises buried treasure to one lucky adventurer has led to a cutthroat competition and five deaths among treasure-hunters. But Cassie’s client doesn’t want the treasure. Instead, he claims to be the one who hid the gold and wrote the poem. And he’s hired Cassie to try to find him. Between the two cases, Cassie has her hands full. In Montana, a killer view can mean more than just the scenery, and Cassie knows much darker things hide behind the picturesque landscape of Big Sky Country. Treasure State, C. J. Box's highly anticipated follow-up to The Bitterroots, is full of more twists and turns than the switchbacks through the Anaconda Range.
